This is a great bike for experienced riders who want to trail ride. Who wants a reliable low maintenance dirt bike that cost far less. This bikes msrp is under 5k. A race bike is north of 10k. This in NOT a beginner bike it’s a bike that offers what it was built for, I am F#ck’n sick of people calling it a “beginner” bike and talking it down like it can’t perform well. If your a good rider you will love the low end grunt and linear power delivery. It will beat many race bikes on single track tight technical trails.

I’ve sold all my race oriented bikes and my current daily driver bike is an XR250r with a 277 big bore. Amazing bike for so cal desert riding. I am 6’2” so it’s kind of the perfect height for me as well. I would love to get a crf 250f to play around on as well but there just isn’t enough reason to dump my xr for it. If I ever get a second bike though, this is it. Kick starting the Xr, while reliable, is really really hard sometimes. Also I’m sure the fuel injection system works great. I ride in the high desert so altitudes can change and jetting the carb can be difficult to get right.

This is a good beginners bike for an adult. It shouldn't be compared to the old XR250R, which other than the 250cc displacement, was completely different. The XR was a full sized dirt bike with a competent suspension, totally different engine and was better for more experienced riders. If Honda made the XR250R with updated components on the suspension and motor but kept it air cooled, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
@MotocrossHideout4 ай бұрын
You bring up some interesting points. The XR250R has more suspension travel and slightly more peak power, otherwise these bikes are very comparable. Not sure if you've owned or ridden the CRF250F, but from what I remember of the old XR, this CRF is more similar than any other bike I've ridden, which is why I mentioned it in this video. They're both full size bikes (21/18" wheels). Both have 4-valve 250cc engines. They mainly just detuned the suspension, which can be modified to perform better, just like many people did with the XR. Thanks for watching. -Kelley

Hey Alex, they're both great beginner bikes. If you absolutely need a street legal bike, then the CRF300L is a good choice, but if you can get by with an off-road only/trail bike, then the CRF250F is definitely going to handle better on trails mainly due to being considerably lighter and better handling at low speeds. I wore out a CRF250X but because of where I ride I didn't want to go to the RX, maybe too much bike for my purposes. I bought the 250F and wow, you do have to be careful not to over-ride it. The first thing I did was change the shock and every time I ride it I'm thinking of changing the springs. All that said, I LOVE the motor, everything you said is right on, my trails are mostly high 3rd gear for me and the FI and the delivery are pretty sweet. It is trouble free, just don't try to send it 😅

I´ve been following your comparisons from some time now. I would like to ask your input: Riding my MX bike has become almost imposible to afford so I'm looking for a small lightweight trail bike to practice, have fun and keep expenses low. My two options are a XR200 and a TTR230 (similar to the CRF230F). I ride trails, and small MX tracks with small jumps. (no doubles or big tabletops) For the XR I favor that it has become a classic bike. The PROs for the TTR is that has ergonomics as newer bikes. What do you think would be best?.
@MotocrossHideout11 ай бұрын
Hey Jaime, thanks so much for following my content! Neither of those bikes will be great for jumping even on small jumps because the suspension is soft - unless you modify it. But for trail riding between those two bikes, the main difference is that the TTR has electric start, slightly more power, and more modern ergos (flatter seat). The bigger factor might be finding one that's been well maintained because people often don't change oil or filter because they're so reliable. Hope that helps, Jaime - thanks for watching!

Yeah, but they probably figure it doesn't matter for most people. It only helps to have that extra gear if you need to cruise at a high speed.

@@MotocrossHideout That is a quality of life for some people that want to travel from their house to their favorite trails. No one wants to keep their bike screaming at 50mph for like 15 minutes to their favorite trails. or even have a 6th gear to save a bit of fuel/wear and tear when cruising from one trail to the next.
@MotocrossHideout7 ай бұрын
Yep, I get it. That's one of the reasons why I still have my 230. With that said, you can carry an extra front sprocket and swap it reasonably quick when you enter/exit the trail.

Isn’t even a race bike buddy 😂🫡

Exactly. People complain about the suspension and weight when it's not meant to be a high-performance dirt bike. It's great at what it's made for.

Sounds good - let us know how you like it!

So you hated it? It’s horrible? It’s NOT the right bike? Yet the vid was totally positive about it. Stupid and confusing
@MotocrossHideout9 ай бұрын
I thought I explained in the beginning that it's terrible "IF" you want a lightweight race bike, then I went on to explain who it's good for. Not sure why that's stupid and confusing. 🤠

Won't sell. People who like them are too old. Kids nowadays like video games.

I agree somewhat. Sports have really died in my area and most kids can't even ride peddle bikes anymore.

I’m looking for a good trail bike was gonna get a Yamaha TTR230 but now looking at these Honda CRF250f might at least check out one at the dealer. I do already have newer KTM race bike and other bikes but need an easy to ride option for family n friends.
@MotocrossHideout11 ай бұрын
Nice, yeah the main difference is that the Honda has EFI and probably slightly more power but also a little heavier.
@HailMich11 ай бұрын
@@MotocrossHideout do you think a beginner 16-25 yrs old could take this bike out and be ok?? I’ve seen people get hurt bad getting on race bikes years over the years.
@MotocrossHideout11 ай бұрын
The CRF250F isn't a race bike, if that's what you're wondering. It's great for beginners that are at least 5'6" tall.
@tndeere11 ай бұрын
I like the Hondas CRF's much better than TTR"s.I've ridden both and the Honda to me seem to handle better and feel more nimble on the trails.I like Yamaha's and have owned 4 of them,(YZ250,YZ250F,YZ125 & YZ85 )they were great bikes but I think Honda does a better job with the entry level trail bikes
@MotocrossHideout11 ай бұрын
Yep, the TTR's are great, but there's a reason why our garage is transitioning to mostly red bikes to train new riders.
