Hi, very good review of the Honda, I was impressed with your verdict on the bike, It is nice listening to reviews that are not littered with swearing and are presented in a manner which are at everyone's level, keep up the good work, regards, Colin.

Nice one Mark. I went and bought the 2011 version. I viewed your vid and all you said is true. I understand that mine is a little older but the engine is glorious, and the gear changes are so smooth. The seating position is upright and kind on my back. I came from a BMW F800ST, which I loved, but the ride position was not as good or comfortable as the "Crossrunner". Love it. Many thanks for your review. Michael.

I had overlooked the crossrunner but am going to reconsider it ,it's far nicer to ride than a tracer which has horrible suspension and looks and feels cheap even though it has a great engine .

Thanks Mark..l bought the Crossrunner a month ago, love it so far ! Parked it next to 2 Tracers today , and it's the best looking by a mile . Bob

Hi Mark. I have recently purchased the same Crossrunner and I love it. It is very smooth and comfortable. I inserted a K&N airfilter in it and it has made quite a difference especially when you hit the 6000 revs and the V Tec kicks in. I also put a taller screen on it which is much better. An awesome bike which I will be riding on tours for many years to come. Well Done Honda!!!

Hi Paul, very informative review, if I can add some info. I have owned a 2012 version and changed to 2016 version purely because of the awesome lights. Here in Norway we get a fair bit of darkness and long dark tunnels so good lights need to be a priority. Servicing can be expensive with valve clearance check at 24000 and 48000. I find my bike is heavy on front tyre wear. I have 65000kms on my bike since 2016, lots of touring miles to UK/Europe pre Covid. As you say the seat comfort is very good and position of rider is excellent enabling long distance riding. I will sign off with saying I test rode several other bikes to compare but the Honda was way better than the others, build, character, performance and comfort. Happy biking.

all what Mark is true however I tested one today and after 1 hour spent on motorway and town street. I was getting pain in my back. when you tested make sure you spend enough time on it. I would have given it a 10 10 if it was not about the steering bar which might need some adjustment. I ride a GS and the posture is much better. Still This bike is just a love to ride.

Hi Mark. Thanks for another great review. I'm a 2004 VFR800 owner and I have always loved the V4 character and sound. Have you tested the new generation VFR800? A lot of people have said that it's too vanilla to be fun. It does the job but doesn't thrill. Do you agree with that sentiment? Is the Crossrunner more fun? Also, which one do you prefer, the Crossrunner or the S1000XR? Looking forward to your Tracer test!
@markpulling129 жыл бұрын
AbidingDuder hi duder,the xr is like night and day to the crossrunner,the xr is a superbike guided missile which you can tour on,its like the perfect compromise between a sports bike and a tourer,the crossrunner is way less power but still a hoot to ride and very comfortable. I know what you mean though about the "vanilla" thing hondas are built very well and do everything well and sometimes they loose a bit of character that we all love but on the other hand some people will buy a honda because of its build quality and long term reliability ..good to chat again all the best mark :) ps xr all the way for me if i had £15k !
@AbidingDuder9 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for your reply. I'm kind of in the market for either a secondary bike or replacing the VFR. I'm really torn between the character of the V4 and the performance of the S1000 engine, which also has a fantastic soundtrack. A couple of other reviewers of the XR has said that there is quite noticeable vibrations at cruising speed in the bars and pegs. Did you notice that on your ride? Thanks again for a series of great reviews.
@markpulling129 жыл бұрын
AbidingDuder hi again ...the subject of xr vibes has big discussion at the moment ...the one that I rode for about an hour was lovely and smooth and I purposely rode it to try and find vibes ..There was a tiny bit through the bars but nothing to worry about. .my friend has just bought one and he has found the same as me as in a tiny bit of vibration but nothing to worry about. ..whereas some people online are complaining so much they are thinking about returning the bike ! ...I don't know yet if this is just something of nothing that has been blown out of proportion or it really is a qa issue that bmw need to address ...Id like to ride another at somepoint to compare ..as this bike is def on my future list as is the new multistrada ...cheers mark

+mark pulling HI Guys, I rode the S1000 for 90 hours over the Alps, Slovenia Italy etc.... The vibe is there and is bad on constant speeds- motorway speed as well.....i had dead fingers & numb feet . hope they get it fixed as it is the only negative to an amazing bike.....Loved it on the twisties...... & Alps...

looking at upgrading to crossrunner 800 from my tracer 700... I want a more comfortable crusing ride.. I feel like the twin engine on my yamaha 700 is revving too hight at cruising 80mph speed.. and a seat on tracer is sooo uncomfortable.. the only problem I can find on this bike is the weight of it.. and also it feels like this bike isnt the best value on paper, even in the second hand market
@iains32218 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. Great review. Would nearly have bought this bike from your review alone but finally got to try it. Was a bit peeved cus the dealer had not dropped the seat down as I requested. Went out on it anyway. Coming from a cruiser this bike is extremely quick (rarely engaged Vtec inside 70mph speed limits), handled and stopped great. Lovely sporty riding position etc etc. Only drawback............ The massive amount of wind noise and turbulence around my head, and I'm only 5'7". How you managed to make such a clear recording of this bike is a mystery to me cus I couldn't even hear the beautiful V4 howl at anything over 40! I find it hard to believe that Honda have made such a basic mistake with this bike. Recently tried a BMW F800GT and you could have lit a ciggy behind the screen at 90mph. What is going on. Going to try the Tracer next.
@markpulling128 жыл бұрын

A bike with a crap sounding horn is a no-no. Also something else you might include in your tests is how easy bikes are to get onto and off their centre stands as some are easier than others. Just a small point though. Do you think you will test the VFR1200 X Cross Tourer? Thanks, Alex.

Great bike and very good review Mark. I like the bars and exhaust. Shame it’s not a current bike.
