I have a CRV with 210k miles, only had x2 engine oil changes in its life and never had the auto box fluid changed. Have been expecting it to go pop for the last 10yrs but the damn thing keeps going. I will definitely be buying another but with full service and plan to keep the fluids changed and topped up with the next CRV. Thanks for the informative video.

I do think the Japanese engines were built better back in the day. I had a Toyota corolla that had been driven dry which I found out after I had purchased it and although it was making a heck of a racket it kept going and going and eventually was exported to South Africa. It now seems that from 2007 engines can't make it past 60k without self destruction because of the 'improved' way they are built.

Yes, it can be done without jacking the car up. It’s a tight fit and hard to do an inspection. I use ramps which work well, were only about $50 CND when I bought them a few years ago. Lightweight but very sturdy and are a must to change oil in the Honda Accord. One question our 2002 CR V takes 4.2 litres for an oil and filter change and you use 5.3 litres with same size engine. Puzzled? Good video, thanks!
@franka67903 жыл бұрын
Tbe only thing that I do not agree about this presentation is the viscosity of oil that you used. Isn't 5w40 a little to thick for that engine? I am using 5w30 for my 2014 CRV 2.4 4th Generation. Do you really think that using 40 is just alright or better instead of using 30
@CoatsandGaiters3 жыл бұрын
Hard to remember back that far but I normally choose the oil from the owners manual. Most oils today are 5w30 and thats what I tend to use though I do recall some people saying that when I used that in the Honda HRV it was way too thin and the engine would consume a fair bit. So not sure If I chose that oil from owners recommendations or the Honda manual. 5w30 is the norm though for most cars.
@ptwrmakes1849 Жыл бұрын
40 is fine on a car this old, if it was the K series in say the EP3 civic type-R or the Integra I'd go 30, 220k and counting
@heros2110 Жыл бұрын
My wife's 2004 CR-V with the K20 engine gets 5W-30 ACEA A3 as per manual and the engine doesn't consume any. 158,000 km which is roughly 100,000 miles on the dash.

I think the manual might have said 5w30 for the UK temperature but when I used this in another Honda lots of people said it would be too thin and that the engine would drink a fair bit.
@CoatsandGaiters Жыл бұрын
@Bruce Wayne It depends on many factors but when I put 5w30 in the Honda's tended to burn a bit past the oil control rings so I was having to keep topping it up. I was advised 5w30 was too thin. The manufacturers favour thinner as it's better for emissions. I think you have to choose what you feel suits you.

I was *positive* I'd read 4.2L for my 2.4L engine. Was super confused with your 5.3L listed. Turns out that's prescribed amount for engine overhaul. Which I think you did, from your comments about doing the head gasket. But you also listed this as a 2.0L engine, so not sure if the amounts are the same. Anyway I"ll continue on with my 4.2L now.

Hi the Haynes Manual says 4.2 litres for an "Change" and 5.3 litres for "Total" for the 2 litre petrol. I presume 5.3 is a totally dry engine maybe.

You're a legend mate... When I did my Mini R50 subframe rebuild it was your videos that saved me... And then we buy a CR-V and you once again save the day.... I also changed the VTEC solenoid, was still getting a P1259, so I ran a flush through, drained it (somehow pulled out over 6 litres of oil... That may have been part of the issue) filled it with some cheap and nasty oil from B&M, took it for a run and then drained it again... This time changed the oil filter, took off the solenoid and cleaned the screen and throughout the unit, refilled with a quality 5w40 and even added a little slick50 for good measure as she's got over 220k on the clock, just got back from my second run and according to Torque on my phone (OBD via Bluetooth) not only do I have better temperatures but I got that K20 to siiiiiiiing with no coding...
