Honda CRV rear door emergency unlock.

The rear door stayed locked, this is what I found and the fix.

I had trouble with the door locks on my van going stiff and snapping the keys. Removed the locks and the grease had turned to glue. Cleaned with a degreaser and various brushes (tooth and pipe), fresh grease applied and now good as new. At least it has metal parts. My brother's Jeep will go into reverse if you're a bit heavy handed finding first. Culprit is a worn plastic guide/bushing for the select reverse lifting lever. Not easily remedied as new parts unlikely to source, second hand will also be worn, and the design a bit tricky to replicate.

Ian, a locksmith told me about graphite powder for lock lube, a rasp on an old carbon motor brush will create the very thing, lubes without the sticky. As to difficulty of obtaining motor parts, it will only get worse and we will be forced to create our own, even from bits of even grained hardwood, like hawthorn soaked in oil, mad max here we come, cheers

Be interesting to see it stripped, assume the solenoid is in the plastic case?

That's right and the whole job including removal / replacement of the door trims is about 20 minutes, cheers

I think its a good idea to keep a spare car for parts. Do you keep it whole or strip it down into parts since you need to cut out sections or metal for later rot repairs anyhow?
