My CRV is a 2008. My part was ~$75 at the local Honda dealer. I could have save couple dollars had I gone to O'Reilly, but they had to order the part in. If you have 2012+ I would call about getting your's fixed under warranty even if your mileage is up.

Thanks! Just finished the job, rear lock works perfectly now, and more importantly, the tailgate unlocks when doors unlock. I had a lot of trouble getting out the infamous 3 screws. I recommend doing this first. No point in taking the door apart and then not being able to remove those screws. 1screw came out with PB Blaster, elbow grease and #3 driver. The other 2 would not budge, even with an impact driver (I declined to bash hard enough to dent the door). They finally came out easily after a little heat from a propane torch. I also had a little trouble getting the rod off the door handle, but eventually it came out. I bought my actuator from Walmart online - it was around $21. Couldn't have done it without the video. Thanks!

Excellent post, thank you! Everything went as planned except I could not get the actuator housing around the track no matter how I tried without risking track damage and/or cracking the actuator housing. I was able to lift the bottom of the track outwards (where the 10mm bolt attaches to the track) and was able to slide the actuator up underneath it without issue. Thank you again for the very helpful post!

Awesome instructions! Installed and working great. This is my second install because the first actuator assembly I bought was defective (worked for about a week and then stopped and prevented the door from opening AT ALL). I was facing a challenge of trying to remove the door panel from the inside and hack away at the actuator with a chisel and hammer to break the door latch free, OR paying the dealer a bazillion dollars to un-F my repair (probably with a chisel and hammer). I kept trying the handle every so often, just in case it decided to work again. Nope, nope, nope. Stuck shut. Then, on Valentine's Day, I tried opening it AND IT OPENED! WOOT! Bought a new latch actuator ASAP and re-used these same instructions. Success! It sounds and feels smoother and crisper than the first one, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't my installation that was the issue (it worked fine a dozen times or so over a week). I'll leave the door panel off for a few months, just in case. At least that's one less hurdle if the actuator seizes up like the first one.

Great instructional video with easy to follow steps. Only negative comment: a couple of the edits are pretty tight so some information was a little hard to follow. Most specifically 3:30- 3:41. I spent a LONG time figuring out that I wasn't looking at something on the actuator, but instead, on the handle. The actions fly past pretty quickly and the edits are very tight. But everything else is very solid without a lot of extraneous stuff. Thanks.

Thank you Brian for the excellent video! I was discouraged at first to undertake this job, but after watching your video I ordered the part. It took me 2 hrs total for the job. Hardest part was those 3 screws - a heat gun turned out to be my friend. Another snug was disconnecting the rod from the outside door handle - it was hard to pry it off as there is very little room to gain good leverage. I have used a separate hole in proximity of that connection to put a flat screwdriver through it and then successfully pried it off. Thanks again!

Screw bit size is #3. If you strip the slots, I’m going to save you some money. Instead of paying around $4 per screw at Honda or $3.25 on eBay or Amazon, go to Home Depot and pay $1.25 each. Still a lot for a single screw but much better. Go to the screws in the drawers, not hanging ones. Look for these: M6-1.0 x 18 mm (Metric) Don’t worry that the thread tip isn’t smaller like the old ones. That is just for helping to make inserting it easier.

Got this done on my 2007 CRV thanks to this video. Couple of notes, pulling the rod out took a lot of force but it won’t break, my part didn’t come with a rod so you have to transfer it by just pulling plastic clip and when reinstalling I found it easier to reinstall without the rod and then put it back on. Lastly, my 3 screws by latch were crazy stuck then inevitably stripped. I tried several different ways but ended up drilling them out with 3/16” bit and buying new screws.
