Mate, even though I don't know anything about wrenching, after have watched all your videos, I feel that if I ever get a CT110, I'd know EVERYTHING about it. Awesome stuff mate! Stay upright 🙂

Elvis is the best. While not the greatest option on recessed/sunk screws, if I've stripped the head trying to get them out, of late I use a small dremmel tool with small (thin) grinder and convert the JIS screw to a flat-head by putting a single deep groove across two of the "star" points. Then use a flat head screw driver with a large handle (for torque), or an impact screw driver, to remove. Easier said than done without also scaring the main cover. Thanks for posting.
@Free_Ranger_CT110Ай бұрын
Yeah that would work, sometimes it's impossible to not damage the cover. Good to hear what's worked for others we can all benefit from different ideas/methods. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah he loves to heckle me & Priscilla is sitting on a dozen eggs, hopefully there'll be ducklings soon. Just the kookaburras to watch for as they'll eat them. A couple of years ago I was finishing off a cylinder head when my chicken ate the dowel pin that fits behind the adv/retard unit on the camshaft, straight out of the parts tray. I never got it back!

I found the JIS screws has been swapped out for hex head screws (most people would say bolts). Kinda recessed in the countersink hole. They were all mangled but thankfully a 8mm socket got them out. I replaced with standard screws. Get well soon

Thanks mate, I'd already uploaded & scheduled this video otherwise there'd have been no video this week. Yeah a screw has a coarse thread like a wood screw, sometimes I say bolt or screw or fastener which covers everything. I'm thinking of going to my local bolt shop & buying c/sunk allen bolts, I think they might be a good alternative to JIS. Thanks for your kind words.

Love the channel! Since you have just done clutch work videos, I’ll ask a question. On a ct 110, Is it possible to press down on the clutch and rev the engine without the bike moving? People say this is correct, but no amount of clutch adjustments has yielded this for my 84 ct 110. It always shifts right into gear.
@Free_Ranger_CT110Ай бұрын
@@NickCook-c6d if you go down a hill in 4th gear & press & hold down the shifter the bike will freewheel until you release the pedal. The shifter presses the clutch & changes gear, it's also possible to bump start a CT 110. Hope that answers your question.

Could you retap the clutch outer threads to the next size, or use a helicoil? Love your videos- I have learnt so much.
@Free_Ranger_CT11026 күн бұрын
A bigger dia thread would mean the c/sunk bolt wouldn't fit & the cover would need drilling out etc, probably not the way to go. Helicoil would be better but I'm not sure how thick the material is. Also two helis may be needed to keep the basket balanced. Probably wouldn't need it but it seems logical. I didn't have a heli that small so I drilled & tapped 2 extra holes. Glad you enjoy the videos David, appreciate your vote of confidence.

@@DavidMiller-k4t Hi David, I don't think you'd need to plug old holes. I'm near Toowoomba. Just had a week in hospital with heart trouble. Working on the ct's & making videos helps keep my mind off of it. Sunny coast is a good spot. All the best, Darren.

Hi mate hope all is well . We’re heading of on another nullabore run again . A question to the guru …. All my bikes are around 120 psi compression . Is this too low ?
@Free_Ranger_CT11016 күн бұрын
Hi Dan, I'm not the guru mate, just an old bloke trying to keep his old Postie running but appreciate the sentiment. If the bikes are all more or less the same I'd say you're OK. Honda state 156 to 199 psi as std & 140psi as the minimum, but when I did a comp test I found my tester was reading low when I used the rubber hose screwed into the plug hole adaptor. Using the steel pipe with rubber end pressed against the plughole it gave a much higher result. Opposite to what I expected. I think it's something to do with the shrader valve in the hose not sealing properly. I reckon if you retest using the steel pipe adaptor, you'll get 150 psi reading. If the bikes sound OK, don't smoke or use too much oil I think you're good to go. Did you see the 3 veterans doing a round Oz trip raising awareness on CT110s? The last post I think it's called.
@Free_Ranger_CT11016 күн бұрын
Should be a great trip, is this the one you'd planned with some old Army mates? There'll be some epic camp fire stories! I'd planned another outback trip but had another heart attack & recently spent a week in hospital. It's now too hot to go into the dead center, so the trip's off for this season. All the best to you & Kristy. Darren.

Tech question: Is the CT110 ADR as sought after as the original CT90 HiLo and were there any problems to look out for?
@Free_Ranger_CT110Ай бұрын
I live in Australia & the CT interest seems to revolve around the ex Oz Post bikes, most of the CTs with hi/lo g/box were sold to farmers & not able to be road registered, in the US it seems a different market & CT90's are more sought after & good condition bikes available. So the short answer to your question is I honestly don't know, it depends upon where you live. Hi/lo CTs aren't common here in Aus.
@mikeosborn2047Ай бұрын
@@Free_Ranger_CT110 Thanks for that, CT110 models with Hi Lo are certainly thin on the ground with compliance.
@Free_Ranger_CT110Ай бұрын
@@mikeosborn2047 for me, the ease of changing the front sprocket & much lower cost of the front sprocket on a bike without hi/lo outweighs the occasional use of a low gear. I've seen that many people swap out the frame for a complianced one, that's a lot of work. I do have a ct110 complianced with hi/lo but it's being rebuilt. (well it's in the queue) all the best, Darren.
