I owned a 1970 CT90 which the PO had sent in to Powroll in Bend, OR, was their race tuned stroker, bored and hotter cammed 125cc. The original carb was replaced by an ATC125 carb. It made great power but it really could have used an oil cooler which no-one made back then. Your after market carb starting without the choke means it's far too rich in the idle circuit pilot and possible the airbleed adjustment too. Stock adjustment should be the engine starts with the choke on and starts to stumble a little so you feather open the choke in stages until it's fairly warmed up 26 years later, I've got a 1969 C-102 with a extremely worn 49cc stock engine and I've replaced it with a semi automatic, pitbike 125 cc Honda clone, that isn't too far from the performance of that old Powroll kitted engine. Same rather stiff compression means you've got to start it like an old BSA MX 500, with the engine on TDC/compression stroke. It's clone engine has a clone ATC carb and that carb needed a lot of rejetting work with it also being too rich in both the main and pilot. I kinda miss my old Powroll'd CT90, that engine's immediate torque curve increase almost made the 4X4 trail gearing unnecessary.

Today I solve a long going problem. I've stressed over my carb no doing good after 35 mph except down hill , today I drilled holes in my gas cap and that fixed it. My bike now gos 45+ more down hill "I can live with that" What I learned was it was creating vacuum in the tank and sucking air through the gas line going into the carb at the carb under the clamp. My cap had a very small hole on one side and two the same small size on the other, I drilled two on each side approximately the size of #2 pencil lead , I did get a little splash of gas out of those holes but my tank was completely full at that test drive time. Maybe this can help with someone else mystery. I wish I could send pictures.

That style of manger is often stamped on the underside so you might have to remove it to see. I know I’m late to the party but you don’t want it to be too lean. Completely stock it should be somewhere around 75 and 65 is too lean.

Dratv has some on website. Good ones not from China think there about $50. I also have a 71 and the stock jet size is wrong. I believe there was even a recall on it. So if your main jet is 65 it’s wrong. Should be something like 75. A65 main jet will burn your Engine.

Thank you sir. I have a new Chinese carb on my ct 110 (1982). I've got good compression, taken top end off, had valves leak tested and the rings while original seem to hold air under leak down (in other words I highly doubt internal engine problems). Tuned and re-tuned the carb and it runs great but only through mid throttle. Tried every clip position on the pin (it came to me at position 3- moved it to five and it ran poorly- I find position 2 is the best). Very responsive throttle, great starting. Even though the carb has less than 100 miles I did a cleaning (not rebuild) however I did NOT check or adjust float level. I am not confident that I can measure level with a caliper/rule so i will check with the clear tube method. Do I sound like I am on a logical path here to determine why under heavy load AND/OR WOT it bogs, spits--If I apply manual choke under those circumstances it almost kills the bike. I welcome any and all's advice. Thanks for the great videos. Subscribing now. Jim

Try removing the advance mechanism and cleaning/lubing. Also check for intake obstruction (remove filter and test ride). I found a silica pack in my pod filter and had same prob. Other than that, do the timing and set the points to spec. This assumes the main jet is clean cause it's new.

Great vid. I've been thinking of buying a new carb for my ST90. I have the high idle issue and I have solved all air leaks except near the base of the carb. Had new rebuild kit with new gaskets. Still an air leak. I'm wondering if I have a crack in the carb somewhere. I'm also wondering if my high idle issue is caused by something else.
@TepcoCycleRepair2 жыл бұрын
A bowl gasket leak won't cause high idle. Make sure you have free play in your throttle so it's closing all the way. Does your bike return to idle quickly or slowly. If slowly, go to the next richest pilot jet or try adjusting the mixture screw a bit richer. If you're turning your idle all the way down and it's still high, your slide isn't closing all the way. Hope those tips help. Thanks for watching. I have 3 CT90's coming in for repairs/service next month.
@randyarellanes64094 жыл бұрын
Buyer beware, the Chinese carburetor will not fit a 1969 ct90 k1. The bolt holes do not line up, I have already tried two different carburetors from different suppliers and neather one worked. Also most new carbs for the ct has the overflow come straight down, which also creates a problem with trying to attach them. You can pretty much find carburetors for the ct except for the 1969ct90 k1.
