Started watching these videos and have now started the process for my own cx500. Through out the planning stage things can seem to get hairy (especially putting prices together and thinking about timeframes for when things should be completed), but watching these videos makes me so damn excited to get to work on every little detail of my build. Thank you so much for posting these.

Hey, very nice project. I'm building a CB900 Boldor at the moment. Might build a CX 500 soon. Be careful with those head light holders. I had the same ones at another project and they were scratching the Tank (with the piece you can put together the holders) when I steered completely in. Great work

Good luck on your build, the clips are well away from the tank when the lock comes on. all good.

Great work. The bikes are really coming along nicely. I'd love to see you do a fork upgrade on one of your bikes. Something like an upside down fork arrangement like a set of marzocchi shocks. Hallo, from design point of view I'd recommend you flipping the headlight mounting brackets up side down (and side to side). It will put the light a bit lower and from the side it will visually extend the horizontal line on the bike. :)
@forthebold6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion, I did originally try the light lower down but it just felt disjointed so I preferred it higher up to balance, just didn't feel right from my design point of view. I positioned it so that the top of the headlight ran the same height as the top of the fuel tank.
@frankdvorak6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for such a quick answer. Yeah, actually, it wouldn't work out in your case anyway because of the clip-ons. Agreed, if the headlamp is aligned with the top of the tank, then it will definitely look superb. But to me, the brackets look cooler flipped upside down (sorry :D). cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0253/7093/products/104297_hlbracketcafeblack06_full.jpeg?v=1375683157 BTW to the pod filter video -- I've recently build my bike on a seriously tight budget and tired sealing those little holes in the chaap e-bay crap. I've also made something like a plastic tubular inserts to restrict the amount of air going in, and the bike runs sweet even without rejetting. Let's see what it does over time ... Anyway - great content - thanks for doing this !

I’ve got the same clip ons as you, however don’t feel very safe with them. Are the forks supposed to protrude so much through the triple tree? Just asking since I am going to modify my own bike in the future.
@lajjvo7 жыл бұрын
Poor mans lowering kit. It changes the stance of the bike.
@damonlytton59737 жыл бұрын
They aren't designed to go that far through the triple tree. They are supposed to be flush with that notch on the top of the fork tube. You can lower them a bit, but it looks like his are down two inches which is too far for the cx500 if you ask an expert. It messes with the geometry of how it rides but more importantly, it shortens the suspension travel. Those forks will bottom out almost immediately. That's also why the gaiters are so scrunched up. How far you can lower your triple trees on your forks depends on the bike you have. I'd find a forum for bike builds and search/ask there.
@forthebold7 жыл бұрын
+Anders Ilstedt from what I've experienced all depends on what you like to ride with. I've shortened the forks by an inch internally and then an extra inch at the top through the yolk.
@forthebold7 жыл бұрын
+lajjvo the forks have been shortened internally too

Looking very nice dude!!! I have a suggestion to make... I don’t know if you are going to leave the wheels like they are, but you could take a sandpaper and work on the edges of your spokes till all paint is gone and the aluminum shines... it’ll give a very classy finish to it...
