Honda CX500 ignition and carburetor problem

The carbs are giving me hell. But there is progress. However with repairing old motorcycles new problems are never far away. The motorcycle is from 1982 and has not been taken care of for several years, so its no wonder there will be issues.
And offcourse I am an amateur mechanic so its an learning experience for me as well.
I hope to show you in the series within a series that shedbuilding has it ups and it downs. And sometimes it can be a steep hill to climb.

Keep at it! An excellent resource for the carbs is Larry Cargill's CX Carb book. I've owned my CX for years and still refer to it. Another great place to hang out (if you aren't already) is the CX500forums. We even have a member map there so you can find folks close by with one if need be.

You say you have no spark and said alternator BUT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ????? I had a CX 500 B which you have for 10 yrs trust me its the carbs

Adjust the mixture screws its running to rich

i had a lot of problems with the iginition on 1 of the cylinders. This caused the RICH mixture. As 1 cylinder ended up not firing,.,, the cause was a bad connecter (i now know)

Bit late on this but I would also suggest balancing the carbs I had this issue many years ago on a 250 twin struggled for days untill a mechanic mate turned up with the guages and hey presto job done ??? worth a thought !!

Thank you for the advice. I did get everything running, the “main” problem turned out to be a bad connecter to the sparkunits. Later i did balance/sync the carbs (first bench then with gauges)
