This has been such a helpful video and just as applicable to my 1979 Honda CB750 build. It has massively helped with getting my electrics sorted. Great work and many thanks.

I once bought a GL1100 that the PO could not get running for 3 years, sold it to me pretty cheap . I love a challenge. It took me more than 3 weeks, finally figured out that someone had taken apart the molex plug for the pulse generators and reassembled the plug with the yellow and blue wires switched. This was a real brain teaser.

Hi, have a 78 cx500 with CDI unit. Have bought x21. I know you made reference to the CDI bikes in this video however, I am still not clear if I need to utilise the CDI box when I rewire the bike or whether that’s bypassed by the x21 system? Total noob here BTW, so your vids are hugely beneficial 👍
@BrickHouseBuilds Жыл бұрын
The x21 does not replace your timing components. It simply provides power to the ignition system. Please reference then install guide and go with the magneto style for wiring it. Basically the black/white from the CDI goes to the x21 and you will flip the shutdown switch to negative

Great videos. My molex plug for the pulse generators has been cut and there is no white heat shrink on any of the blue or yellow cables. How can I tell which should have the white heat shrink? Thanks

That sucks. I wish I knew a way to tell for sure but unfortunately dont

May I mention that when repinning the small 2.8mm blade connectors with new terminals, to use a reputable supplier of replacement terminals. Some of the cheap ones are pretty poor quality.

Poor quality anything always sucks

On my 1981 cx500 trike, it has this type of ignition. I am wondering how much I can run off it. I will be using as much led type lighting as possible, including led flag polls. I have a 35w HID headlight bulb/ballast.
@BrickHouseBuilds2 ай бұрын
If it has a TI ignition like this that will mean it has a G8 stator which has good output. With LEDs id say you won't have a problem

Hallo! This is most informative canal I ever watched! Thank you for hard work and helping us understand what we have to do I order to make our project work! I have question! Would x21 work on my BMW 1100 gs scrambler project? Have a nice one!

Thank you much! For the BMW wiring check out www.euromotoelectrics.com/ as they sell the R21 which is a BMW specific product made by NWT Cycletronic. Like a BMW specific X21.

I noticed that my Honda has the grounds set up the same way, they make a body ground and a engine ground connector as well. Not sure why they set it up like that after all, all of the grounds are connected together. I’m in the process of redoing the wire harness on it hope this fixes my weak spark issue.
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Grounds are so important. Having a solid main ground with some runners is usually best. You don't want to depend on the frame to carry ground from front to back
@miguelpagansr61282 жыл бұрын
@@BrickHouseBuilds I was considering installing another ground from the engine to the frame where the bolt holds the engine just for added piece of mind, if you have any advice it would awesome after all we all learn something new every day. Thanks.

@@miguelpagansr6128 I usually add a ground from engine to frame
@miguelpagansr61282 жыл бұрын
@@BrickHouseBuilds thanks very much, I wanted to but I would rather get advice from a pro I can be handy for things like that but sometimes it pays to talk to a pro. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
@miguelpagansr61282 жыл бұрын
@@BrickHouseBuilds so you mean like running a ground strap from the engine to the frame and having the remaining grounds going to it? I checked all of my grounds for continuity and they’re all good, my wiring harness has one body ground and an engine ground but the way Honda sets it up is that the ground wires are joined in some areas eventually becoming a common ground.

Hi again, I have completed my x21 install. All good but have coil issue (one broke), so bought replacements but they have 2 terminals instead of 1. Is this possible to install with the CDI unit?
@BrickHouseBuilds Жыл бұрын
I believe I saw your post earlier on the cx facebook page actually. CDI coils do not act the same as a traditional +/- coil. I would confirm with who you bought them from first.
@MrRockycave Жыл бұрын
I believe the second terminal was for the ground. So I installed them and have a spark. But the bike won’t start. Compression good, fuel Good, but weak spark and won’t go. Could it be a stator issue?

Hey, off topic question for you. I put new aftermarket head gaskets on my cx500 and they are weeping coolant. Should i pay the premium for oem gaskets and should i use copper coat?
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
For head gaskets go with high quality and reputable. Copper spray i know I used it but there are so many differing opinions on it.
