Great bike. I was given one by a friend because I was happy to do some wrenching back in the day. Mine had been to a garage numerous times and they were unable to start it. Did all the normal things, but suddenly realised that the battery was really hot. There wasn't any liquid in the battery and it was shorting straight through the battery. New battery and away she went. They are prone to timing chain tensioner problems and if ignored the chain eat its way right through the case. Had a MX125 before this, and a Honda RD250D. afterwards I had a MZ250 for knocking around to work, and then a BMW K1000RS - fab bike, did over 45,000 miles on her, and took her to Norway. Reactions have slowed too much now.

I was a despatch rider from 1987-1990 and rode a black cx500 just like this with the 2 into1 motad exhaust, the sound of this bike just brings a smile to my face. I rode that bike flat out at 110 mph most days and it just kept going month after month after month . Wee bike earned me a wage and never let me down. Well the alternator went and that’s a split the engine job so we parted company at that point lol

From my recollection, they were more hated than loved , affectionately named the "maggot" Ran 3 of these couriering, tbh I liked them for there durability, crashed, smashed and abused..just kept going, nice to see an original one that's hasn't had the cafe racer treatment

I bought one of the first CX500 s from Hartwells in Oxford, 1978. Road it into the ground via France, Germany and most pubs in England. Loved it. Tappits were noisy ...Honda Japan subsequently fixed it in following models. All in all, one of favourite motorcycles.

The Honda Kettle! Had one in 1997. The only problem I had with it was a leaking water pump housing. Had the engine out so many times but so easy to do.

Had one for despatch riding in the 80s. The only issue was the mechanical seal. When they go you get oil and water mixing and it's an engine out job to replace something really small. It's unlikely to bother low mileage riders but the seal was a pain in the arse to replace for professional riders as it was £100 in labour back then.

Hi - stumbled onto your channel today and just finished watching your 4 vids on this CX. What a great bike they always were and its brilliant to see a machine from "yesteryear" getting a new lease of life. I'm ashamed to say when I started watching video 1 on the CX I was rather judgemental and thought ah no another bodgit merchant ( it was the starter motor in the vice jaws metal to metal and being bashed around...) How wrong was I ! Great channel no pointless swearing, just good honest mechaniching which anyone could follow and maybe bring their own ageing classic back to useable service. Theres just something about seeing old machinery being given a new lease of life.... Well done 👍 It just needs regular use now and should last as long as petrol is available.... incredible. The Japanese certainly know how to put bikes together. King and Queen seats ha ha brings back the memories 😄

Ahh brilliant. Thanks for watching my video. Yeah I have had a bit of hassle in comments for my hammer activities. 😂 But TBH I did think I was going to have to replace it anyway. I was pleased to get it to work. Yes I do try to give out tips to my watches. It was a lucky find. Yes the Japanese are brilliant aren’t they. The bikes gone now and fetched a very good price. Move on to the next project. Thanks a lot and all the best. 😀

I really wish Honda still made something like the CX500. I just want something classic looking that's practical and simple to run and maintain, the closest was probably the NC750S whilst they still made it but it has awkward edgy 2010s styling. Perhaps the CL500 is the closest now but it's a bit dinky.
