Yes they all have a oring in there that after time will start to leak.

Cody My sons 1999 civic had the very same oil leak as your video showed. I replaced the vtec solenoid gasket first and that did not fix the leak. I then found your video and replaced the distributor cap o ring and I still had oil! So I replaced the o ring again (parts from dealership). Same thing, ugh. Could these guys be giving me the wrong o ring? BTW, the manifold gasket is fine. Where else could this damn oil be coming from?

I had one civic that was leaking from the valve cover gasket on the D16 and it looked like it was coming from the distributor.

I just bought a 2000 Civic Hatchback and saw that there was an oil leak in that area where the distributor would be leaking oil. I was able to bring down the price from $2700 to $2000 because of it. I'm gonna fix it this weekend.

just trying to confuse you and charge you more. DIY when possible is the way or understanding what is being said when they are saying it. I know people who don't know anything but putting gas in the tank. They're taken every time. Even me with my first car a long time ago.

I have a 1997 Honda Odyssey. Car won’t start. 3 plugs don’t have a spark but one does. I checked the distributor cap and it had a little bit of oil. Have any ideas of what test I can do? Does it sound like it could be a bad distributor or just maybe spark plug wires?

My distributor is leaking so i will be changing the o ring, just wondering as i am not to knowledgeable with cars etc i was driving home from work today and as I accelerate my car would go say about 50kmh and then it will struggle a bit and even when i step on the pedal it will not move any faster for a few seconds. It’s like delayed. What could be the cause of it? Could it be something to do with the distributor?

yute yu it could spin while taking it off so make sure you look closely how it came off and watch it if spins your car won't start if it 180 backwards

I had it marked and put it back exact but i have done so many Honda's that when i drove it after i would have known if it was off.

So, I have a question: how does marking where the distributor housing sit in relation to the block affect the timing? Doesn't the inside of the distributor rotate? So, wouldn't it have to be the INSIDE of the distributor that stays unmoved, so as not to affect the timing? I may be wrong, but I wanted to ask.

The inside is set correctly because it has a slot on the cam it can only go in one way. But if you move the outer housing it will change your timing. That's why you don't have to worry about the inside marking. Now chevy and Ford is different they have gears and it can change but Honda does not use the same method to drive the rotor.

Does it matter if the internal slot is rotated 180 or does it need to go in exactly the same way it was taken out?

Hi i have a 98 honda civic lxi d16y4 engine 5speed it has since developed a rattle at 4tho rpm an since over a week the tick/rattle has gotten down to 2tho rpm was still driving normal an throttle response did not change til last night now is stalling itself an after i shut down engine wint start again unless jump started or crash started any help in solving this problem would be much appreciated...im thinking distributor maybe???

Well i ran in to an issue ive never seen before. Ordered the correct felpro oring but its too small. I believe the civic must have annaftermarket distributor and its oring is alot larger than the factory o-ring

So long as you haven't damaged it and its the correct one it should not still be leaking unless your engine is high mileage or PCV breather or ventilation valve needs replacing causing crankcase pressure?

I know this is old but for anyone else reading this today, there are actually 2 more seals for the shaft which also leak. I've seen many videos of these guys just changing the main one but that's completely half ass. If you're taking it off then just replace them all.

The part confusing me is people mentioning timing. Is the only thing that could fuck up timing if you rotate the distributor the wrong way putting it back on? Half the videos mention checking timing and the other half dont

There are 2 more seals on the shaft of the distributor that will also leak. To do this job properly you should replace them all. 3 total

No not unless the inside seal is pouring oil inside the distributor cap. I would check for spark those coils can get hot and go bad also a bad main relay will keep it from starting. Without knowing the year and engine and what its doing its hard to diagnose. But always remember 3 main things Spark, Fuel, and Compression or in a Honda Timing

I just did this and my car will not start it just goes kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk kkkkkkkkkk that is the sound..i just replaced the dam oring slipped it back my distributor has 2 bolts so there is no need for me to aligned
