Where I live we have a big Toyota dealership and it is just as bad.. If your tires are half worn out they would try to get you to put a new set on them. You may have 20,000 miles left on them and yet they recommend putting new ones on.. total ripoffs.. I have a friend that has a new Altima 19 inch rims.. He had 5'100 miles on the tires and they told him he needed a new set of tires. That was when he carried it in to get them rotated for the first time.

I had someone kick my rear quarter panel leaving a fairly large dent, so I took it to a body shop to get an estimate and they said it would be over seven hundred dollars to fix it. I didn't want to make an insurance claim so I went into the trunk, and pulled back the liner. I ended up pushing the dent out with my bare hand, and you couldn't even tell it was there to begin with. If you use silcone sealant, it's more or less a permanent fix. It's going to make it much harder replace the coil pack if it goes faulty later. Having said that, I would advise people to use electronics grade silicon for this or anything else on your car as it is neutral cure. Building/construction grade silicon sealants are acid cure, which can cause corrosion problems for wiring and connectors. Yeah sure it's a little more expensive, but doing things properly always makes it better in the long run.

@@devenmellor these simple parts like ABS sensors can easily be replaced by a 3rd party mechanic shop. Honda will supply these parts to said mechanics when they order these parts. Customers go to dealerships for repair because good 3rd party mechanics are hard to tell apart from bad 3rd party mechanics and customers just don't want to do that kind of analysis.
@Blank00
@Blank00 Жыл бұрын
@@devenmellor Honda has no legal control over dealerships. We've seen this with markups. Dealerships mark up prices for new cars, foolish customer pays, dealership gets the extra money and Honda does not. Honda just gets money from delivering cars to dealership. After that, dealership decides what to do.

No joke... We have a Honda Dealer in Petaluma CA that purchased a machine that washes transmissions. My wife took her Civic in for scheduled maintenance and I was shocked when we received the bill not only did they change the fluid in the transmission, way early, but they washed the trans. Honda specifically advises against this washing thing, in the owners manual it states to not do it. My wife was a long time customer having purchased six Hondas form this dealer. They rip you off by doing unnecessary work and try to shorten the life of your vehicle. Needles to say I took over all the maintenance of her vehicle.

And all the electronics in the car had to be reprogrammed. There is nothing on an 08 Grand Marquis that would need reprogrammed. I had put in a device that leaves 9 volts on the system so the radio doesn’t need to be reprogrammed. Went to another Ford Dealer and they charged me $19.95 labor.

To the first guy, Well that's what AutoZone is for, a dealership told me my used 96 Camry A.C. needed "retrofitting" before it could work and would cost me 1600$ , I went to Canadian Tire and bought a recharge kit, refilled myself for 60$ ...

I needed an extra key made for my civic. I pulled in to the dealership- young guy came out - I told him what I needed. He said I'd have to come back another day because it would take an hour and a half and they were closing in an hour. Also said it would be about $250. A locksmith did the job in 10 to 15 minutes and charged $155. Key works perfectly and is identical to the original with the exception of not having the Honda emblem on it.

The better way to fix the connector lock is to use a cable tie, then spray it with Fluid Film. Or go to the boneyard and get a good connector, cut it off, then solder on the good one then heat shrink it. It's not rocket science.

I bought a new 2023 Honda CRV last month and it’s been in the shop for 20 days. Every single light came on the dash sensors stopped working and car went into limp mode. Honda manufacturing and everyone at Honda has been terrible to deal with honestly. It’s a Hybrid. They’re waiting on a BCMM or something on back order. It hasn’t been a good time.

Yah, my local Graf Chevrolet tried to charge me $70 to put a new windshield wiper arm on, when I'd already gotten the part. I wasn't sure if they still used the lead plugs and didn't want to deal with it, but they don't anymore. I literally removed the plastic nut cover, removed one nut, put the new one on and transferred the wiper blade. I told them you really don't want to make money. I'd have probably paid $30 just to not have to mess with it, but $70 for 5 minutes?...

I'll never forget the day I brought my corvette in for an oil change to the Chev dealer. The battery was dying so I figured I get them to do both, even though I've changed batteries on my own many times. I get an $800 bill!!!! I'll never go back after that.

I know nothing about car maintenance and repair. All I do is go online; enter exactly what the repair or part is and ask for average cost. How dumb do you have to be to just pay what they say to pay. Ever hear of GOOGLE? I’ve used the same 2 Honda dealerships in MA for all my service since 1994 and I’ve never been ripped off once. This dealership he’s talking about must be an outlier because it’s just too easy to research anything now.

Because more and more people are getting lazy and not welling to spend time to understand how cars work. When my friends know me doing tire rotation by myself, they said: it's dangerous. you should take the car to a car shop. Does it make any difference that the wheels are tightened to 85 ft-lb by me or by shop mechanics? I can easily save 40 dollars in 30 mins. Tire rotation plus changing oil in shop takes approximately as long as I DIY because you have to wait.

I had a '91 Ford Ranger because the fans on these had a bad habit of forming small cracks radiating out from the center of the fan. It would have cost more to replace the plastic fan rather than buy an electric fan kit. The kit had the fan and motor, thermostat, relay, fuse, and wiring. I also put a toggle switch on the dashboard that would bypass the thermostat and turn the fan on. This was very useful as I lived in Yuma, Arizona where it gets astonishingly hot.

Dealership wanted $80 to replace a cabin filter in my car lol. When I asked why, the service manager said $80 was for the filter plus labor. I said labor? It takes like two minutes to change it out. She said for me to prove it. She was embarrassed after I showed her on how quick and easy it was. She said she didn’t know and owed me lunch then she said she has no control over dealer pricing.

My daughter was quoted $130 to change the cabin filter and wiper blades on her 2015 Tacoma. I did it for $40 parts, got really good wipers. When I replaced the in cabin filter I found they, dealership had done it prior, put it in the wrong way and broke a clip holding it in. I'm a 67 year old woman who has always done maintenance on my vehicles. Currently 2018 Tacoma.

Changing the sensor depends on where you live. If you live in the rust belt it may cost you that much to fix in a shop. Maybe the shop said up to X amount, depending on if there are issues.

I had a problem with the track rod ends of my MK2 CRV. Honda main dealer quoted me £850 to fix, in 2008. Said that the steering was defective. I replaced the track rod ends myself and had the tracking done at tyre Shop. The track rod ends cost £39 and the tracking not very much.
