I had a Tundra 5.7 for 300k, everyone said omg that thing uses so much gas compared to my Ford or Chevy. Go over to Fuelly, and look at. 2015 or so f150, guess what… it might get 1 mpg better…but you don’t spend much on maintenance on the Toyota’s. As far as starters, I’ll put it you this way Between my kids Land Cruisers and my truck we have nearly 900k miles…and not one starter or alternator replaced.
@davidbrennan5
@davidbrennan5 Жыл бұрын
@@hokie9910 The issue is when that starter does go out, it isn't a 30 minute job. If it goes out and your off road in bad weather, you need several hours and a good toolkit just to get home. The local Toyota dealer has a pile of rotted frames chained to the fence behind the dealership Tundra Tacoma and older Toyota truck fames rotted right through changed under recall warranty. We had a Tundra with 5.7L at work and it got around 10mpg with normal driving. Towing 8k pounds it did 6mpg. We had a bigblock 1 ton Chevy 454 dually and it did better than that truck on fuel.

It may be the actuator. The actuator in the front diff gets water in them. Rusts then sticks. That actuator needs to be replaced. That could solve the problem.

The flashing 4-HI indicates an issue with the Electronically controlled 4WD system. There are shift actuators in the transfer case that will shift between 2WD-4WD and 4-HI to 4-LO. is a separate system that typically does not store DTCs or have data list items. Toyotas repair information involves analyzing the 4WD ECU terminal voltages readings compared to the standard values

I agree that's a bargain. My wife is still driving her 2WD 06 Toyota 4 Runner. Over 300,000 miles and the 4.0L V6 is still running strong. We rebuilt the front suspension last year, and over the years I've replace the radiator, alternator, brakes, batteries and anything it needs over the years. I replaced the driver seats bottom leather this year because the leather on that seat was starting to dry out and crack. An easy job if you have a shop to do it in. And it was an exact match Factory Replacement for about $150. It's been a great car and she loves it. Plus, when it's washed it still looks like the day it came off the showroom. She has the oil changed every 5000 miles. It's a great car and we don't even think twice about driving it halfway across the country. I'd buy an 06 4 door Tundra in 4WD if I can find one in as good a shape as hers wth the same engine. Once pulled an loaded 12' UHaul with it from Chicago to Dallas and it pulled it like a champ. I was impressed with how well that 4 liter engine pulled it, and we got 16 mpg on that trip running 75 to 80 mph. We won't replace it until it completely dies or gets totaled out.....

However, a dealer can import an auction lot any size ( 100 vehicles ) and still be taxed $3800 for the car lot as one shipment. Puerto Rico tax laws suck and car dealers are crap thieves! So here’s the problem with government and emissions. If I had that truck which by the way is an awesome truck and runs great, I would not be able to register it even if it had as much as a freaking airbag light. It’s a shame it’s such a great truck but here in where I live, I would not be able to get my tags or register it if any of those lights were on with the exception of the tire pressure, TPMS. Unfortunately this is more and more states in the country, if you have a check engine light or even an airbag light, you will not be able to register the vehicle. It’s a damn shame and now I see why people want to move to Tennessee. Can’t do it here. You would have to fix everything just to get it registered:((((( Here’s a great example, I have a 2020 vehicle that has a check engine light and I currently cannot get it registered. Luckily it’s under warranty and it will get fixed but until then, I cannot register it therefore I’m driving on dead tags. Welcome to the modern world of government that has no freaking clue what the real world is about

Yep same here in CT I had to sell a manual 05 Saturn redline with 60k miles for $800 few months ago cuz the check engine light was always coming on but wouldn’t have any codes connected to it. So I couldn’t register it after 5 years of ownership The book value was $6,800 And $4,500 in worse condition But no one would pay that due to the check engine light being a unknown I had to give it away practically just to use that $$ for down payment on another car. Which I didn’t want to get into a car note But had no choice.

The car ran like new. Even with the light going on for weeks and off for weeks. I even tried to take it for emissions when the light was off but when they connected the computer I guess it showed in their computer as a hard code without a light on and still failed.

@@jessewynne8193 Yeah I liked the Saturn cars back then. The problem is they were the old OBD one and we’re harder to troubleshoot than the more modern OBD. I had to get rid of a 86 Acura Integra 5 speed that ran great but the turn signal stock was bad and I couldn’t operate the hazard lights and therefore it would fail and I had to get rid of it. It killed me because it was such a good running a little car

Re: price. Twenty years ago I gave away a car to a friend on hard times when the dealership would only give me $300 on trade in (Geo Metro). Maybe $900 was all a dealership would pay, so the owner decided to simply sell it instead. Nice person!

I steer clear of the v8's that have the starter built into the crank-case of the motor, the water pump is too. I refuse to deal with a 4000 dollar bill just to change the starter or water pump.

Imo I had a mechanic that told me to buy a car with 250,000 miles on it the thing had so many problems after I bought it and it ran like a new car. But old parts wear out especially a car with a quarter of a million miles on it.

Look up what Top gear did to the Hilux back in the day.. they took a truck just like this one to the north pole and to the absolute edge of a volcano.. like light your tires on fire and put them out with vodka close.. and this truck delivered.. they even dropped one from the roof of a building during a demolition and crank it up and drove it off.. and yeah my centech is out of its depth when dealing with my AWD system.. that was good advice.

Overall a great vehicle, however typical Honda and to a lesser extent Toyota paint quality. Notice the peeling clear coat on the roof panel. Peeling/Heavy oxidized paint is typical on a non-garaged Honda and apparently Toyota.
