i subscribe to the tavarish school of thought on this; i am my own warranty. ... i tend to avoid the whole buying crashed supercars part though. we'll ignore the fact that i've rebuilt two of my last daily drivers pretty much from the ground up. that's clearrrrly not relevant to tavarish.

Jist wanted to update this. I just bought a Element with a recently installed Luk clutch with the EXACT same problems. Replaced with an Exedy brand clutch and it's all good again. Again, same visual differences as this. It seems like the Luk is not correct from the factory. The Luk brand is normally a good aftermarket clutch brand but doesn't seem to be right for this application.

I changed 4 clutches on my 1980 Honda Accord I had. I put a Japanese used engine in it and it didn't have a place for the pilot bearing in the back of the crank. The springs would fall out and would stay in gear. Cost me a red light ticket once. In 81 they incorporated the pilot bearing into the transmission. I wasn't smart enough back then to go get an 81 standard transmission and fix it right.

This is why you always use the same manufactorer's clutch as the factory one was. It was designed to work with that, and even small differences can make it not work. Especially tru with the dual mass flywheels. If you install a different manufactorer's one, you can even break the transmission.

Hi Eric, came to find a clutch video to help me diagnose the problem with my 2003 MT Element. I was driving the vehicle and when I put it in first or second gear, can’t remember, I thought I felt like a snap and s ping in the clutch pedal. I drove home and didn’t really notice any issues. The next day I started the vehicle but can not put it into gear. Before I take it to a mechanic K was hoping to get an idea of what it could be. Also not sure if I would need to take it to Honda or any mechanic would be sufficient to repair. Of course I’m hoping to have a better idea of the problem so I can have more sense when they talk with me, also perhaps be able to ask some questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

The non original clutch probably worked ok till til it was worn to a certain point. Then the incorrect dimensions of the clutch came to play and interferred with the proper operation of the clutch. Staying OEM you know it will work right, work right the first time and work right longer. OEM is the way to go for most if not almost all things Honda.

My guess the wrong clutch would be causing to much hydraulic pressure on the master causing the triangular diaphragm to exert so much force is blew the 2 fasteners off it from the previous video. It's a common thing on rsx and certain gen civic si, they have the same looking clutch master, when switching to aftermarket heavier duty clutches

Fantastic video! Questions..... I need to replace the clutch in my 08 Element. Is it necessary to change out the rear main seal as well? I go on a lot of camping and climbing trips and in doing so I haul a few hundred pounds of gear over rutted out forest roads and snow. Needless to say I encounter moments where I have to stress the clutch more than most would. I have seen where folks have upgraded the clutch to the Acura RSX Type S clutch and flywheel. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade or would it be best to stick with Element OEM?

I had this issue in 97 F150 v6 with a 5 speed... with a new slave and disc.. (cheap ebay parts). It has the dreaded slave that slips around the shaft, instead of the rocker arm set up. I bled it over and over.. it was working, but I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't release all the way.... The physical clutch pedal is actually on a splined shaft, so I just adjusted it one tooth and it works like a champ now.... Maybe these discs are a little thicker than they should be, or that slave cylinder was on the short side of the specs?... either way, moving the clutch pedal did the trick.

My 2003 Element is giving me clutch chatter in 1st gear from a stop. It doesn't happen when I first drive the car for the day, but after I've driven for awhile, the chatter begins. I have to engage the clutch very slowly to avoid chatter. Thoughts?

Eric, when adjusting clutch pedal. Do you follow the specs. Or do you adjust it to how you feel it working as it should?

Your brother needs a full case of rustoleum on that frame and sub frame. Wow 2 foot breaker bar and a two foot cheater. Solid.
