In this video I am going to show you how to remove the carburetor on Honda Elite 80cc scooter to to take apart to clean and replace parts then put everything back together to get scooter running again!

Hey mitch, i have a question about the piaggio fly older model 50cc. My forefork leaked oil and now my scooter bumps like a trampoline. I want to fix my forefork but the problem is that i have no idea how much oil i have to put in the forefork. Do you know how much? I would really appreciate an answer. Thanks

Mitch, consider getting a #2 phillips JIS screwdriver for your scooters. Amazon sells them.

Hey Mitch really enjoying your Ch80 videos. It's really helping with the Ch80 that someone abandoned on my property. It's in about the same shape as your $99 Ch80. Still won't start and I've been checking things bit by bit. I need an exhaust pipe and also some carb parts. Where did you get that carb rebuild kit. The ole skip across the garage has swallowed up my needle seat. The part at 7:37 of this video. I have not stopped looking for that part but It might be lost and I'll need to replace it. I'm having problems finding a rebuild kit that has all the carb parts. I've learned a lot from your restoration video and keep going back as I dig into the Ch80. Also need a center battery box cover and knob. Thanks

love the videos!...but to be accurate, you should use a JIS screwdriver, not a Philips, for those carb screws. You can identify a JIS screw by the little dimple on the head. A JIS driver works fine with Philips screws, a Philips screwdriver has a greater chance of stripping out a JIS screw head. The old Japanese bikes had JIS fasteners all over.

I kept my '86 Honda Elite 80 and have taken the carburetor apart. I have a plastic (nylon?) part that goes between the carburetor and the manifold. I can't seem to find that part anywhere in the manual but it does have gaskets inside it.

Not sure how you access the rear nut without taking the wheel off, mud guard and exhaust..I think you missed showing some steps in that area..I can't access it

Make sure to crimp or remove and plug the gas line before draining the carb if you have good gas in the tank.

Awesome video! I am struggling to get my 98 ch80 going after sitting all winter. Bought a new battery and put fresh fuel in. It turns over but will not fire. Any help would be great! Thinking it’s a bad spark plug?

Starting fluid.. that brass screw on carb.. turn it all the way in.. back out a couple turns.. should start. Make sure it has spark. Switch us on.

Thank you, Mitch! Your videos have been a godsend for working on my Elite 80. My scooter is having an issue, and I'm hoping someone can provide some pointers - right now it bogs down and the engine stops running once I get above 25 mph. To give some background, I took the scooter to the Alvord Desert in Oregon, which is a large flat playa, and after two whole days of riding it around out there, it quit starting. Now it starts no problem, but it bogs down. The engine and all components were completely caked in dirt/dust, so I have cleaned that the best I could and also done the following: Changed oil Changed spark plug Changed air filter (which was caked in dust/oil) None of this fixed it, and now I've cleaned the carburetor, but it looked fine, so I have a feeling this won't fix it. Does anyone have other ideas? I'm wondering if some tube somewhere on the scooter is clogged with dirt. Another thing I see is that the oil separator is caked in oil, and some oil made its way from there to the air filter. Could this have something to do with it?

I wouldn’t start CH-80 in extreme dust or sandstorm. Further, Mitch’s patient, expert disassembly, without Elite Manual ? , might lead to intake manifold dust after these Carburettor steps are followed.

Question, the main jet has a an additional piece/sleeve inside, I saw you pull that out but I didn't see the orientation was it goes back in. I took mine apart to clean it and didn't pay attention i lined up the wide part touching the main jet because they appear to mate that way, and so I threw it all back together and the bike runs mostly ok, but seems rich (I just bought it so dont know how it ran previously) anyway once I left the airbox cover off it's running better. Any chance that little sleeve might have gone in backwards and is the culprit? Great vid, thx!

You pulled that metal thingy out of the main jet but never put it back in? Having trouble with this exactly and cant get the main jet to thread back in

Yes, always run with filter, run with dry filter. Does it get wet after running?

@@MitchsScooterStuff I am getting into one right now, if you were close I would pay a scooter guru to check it out. She ran good and then the kick start won't start it (electric start is out) but it kinda groans, especially when I twist on the throttle, like (blub blub blub) so the fly wheel is engaging I think When I go to kick it the light turns on. So I think it's a fuel issue. I'm sorry you don't have to answer my questions, I just know you are the guy. But could be old gas. I tried putting wd40 through the intake but it still won't fire. Could be spark

Another great video Mitch! I think it is super important to remove the intake from the bike too when you remove carb (to make sure that there are no cracks in it, plus it gives the opportunity to replace the oring that is between cylinder head and intake). Also, whoever reads this, don't use power tools to remove the screws, you will most likely strip them out. They actually sell a phillips style screwdriver for these specialty Japanese screws.
