Honda EM6500 watt generator will not start. How to Install Carburetor on a Honda EM6500. How to Install battery Honda EM6500. This generator was diagnosed with a dead battery, even after charging it. It also has a bad carburetor due to gas going bad inside it. I will show how to install a new battery and a new carburetor on a Honda EM6500SX Generator to get it back up and running as it should.
Honda Carburetor for this model. Part# Honda 16100-Z1C-D24. amzn.to/3Oqo3aY.

Same generator. Has sat for a while. I was starting it every other week and letting it run but haven’t been lately…going to order battery first and see if that with a new spark plug gets it running…if still not running I’ll get a new carburetor. Thanks for explaining how to replace both.

You may just have a bit of bad gas in the carburetor bowl. I would suggest draining the carburetor bowl (side screw on the carburetor to drain it easily) and flush the fuel through from the tank to get good gas into the carburetor. Then try and start it. If the engine is spinning when you turn the key to the crank position? the battery is fine. If it does not crank over when turning the key to crank, then charge it before replacing it. The battery may or may not take a charge pending on how old it is and condition of it.

Holy crap the customer elected to replace the carb rather than clean it??! Thats over a $240 USD carb! Granted the stepper motor assembly cannot be separated from the carb itself, but unless that stepper assembly was burned/shorted, I would have tried cleaning the carb first before dropping mad money on it. Great repair though!

Thanks for watching and commenting! If generators surge just a little bit, you can have issues with all your electronics so rebuilding that carburetor was a no brainer. The inside was horrible and no amount of rebuilding it would have worked. Carburetor cost was $120.00

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines wow they came down in price. The last I checked that entire assembly was nearly $300 with shipping and tax. Sucks that Honda did not sell just the carburetor and the stepper motor assembly separately.

Learned so much from this video alone! Thanks. So while attempting to check the carburetor 6:11 this specific bolt is he only one not coming out, it just spins, ive attempted to try pitting a screw driver in it, no luck, ive pulled on the plastic while spinning to try to get some force but nothing. Any tips?

You need to do what is needed to get it apart. If you must ruin the housing, it is what it is. Get all the other bolts out then pull the stuck bolt. It sounds like the nut spun in the plastic. Not much I can help with but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Thanks for the great video. I also have a EM6500SX with an annoying surging problem. I’m a small engine mechanic so I did all the usual troubleshooting. I’m actually fairly certain the problem is located in the electromechanical controls as my carb is spotless and only tan on ethanol-free. Have you encountered more failures of this type? Thanks!!

I have not come across any issues with the electronics. Even if it’s the electronics. You still get the carburetor when you purchase it. My opinion, the surging is from lack of fuel. It’s the carburetor.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks and that was my assessment as well. The surging is eliminated with a touch of choke. I cleaned cleaned and recleaned the carb with no luck. There's no air adjustments from what I can see and the main jet is set, so I just bit the bullet for the whole carb. Thanks again for the video. Bob

Follow up incase anyone needs it, my surging was caused by the thermostat of sorts on the carb, it's the heater that trims the choke. I took a few measurements to verify the difference. It's a nice carb and surprisingly affordable from Honda. Just around $170 shipped.

I just noticed that this question was for the other gentleman, but it does look like he did replace the carburetor. I would suggest definitely replacing it then you should definitely make sure that you have fresh gas in the fuel tank and flush the fuel lines before allowing fuel to flow into the new carburetor. You just want to make sure you have fresh gas going to the new carburetor. You will need to get on a program of running your generator every 45 to 60 days for 20 to 30 minutes at a time to make sure that you never have this problem again, when fuel sits in the carburetor for a long time, it goes bad quickly in small quantities and will ruin the carburetor.

Nice video. Are you going to try and rebuild that carb for another use? Thanks

Thank you! It’s really bad inside. With generators, if they surge at all (if the carburetor doesn’t rebuild) you have a chance of potentially hurting electric appliances etc. I will keep it for parts.
