Honda Express Moped | Oil Pump How to Remove & Clean 1978 NC 50 Scooter

On this model moped the gasoline and oil are stored separately and the oil pump automatically mixes the correct ratio of gas:oil into the engine. It is important to inspect your oil pump periodically to ensure it is working correctly. You could run the risk of seizing you honda express moped engine if your oil pump is not working properly.

This did help with my 81 nc50 but did use a lower cost ultrasonic cleaner with Lysol and water mixed 50/50 lemon scented for that nice lemonie smell.

That one piece that you mention not to take out, I was air blowing the ports and it just flew out. Cleaned everything up and reassembled the pump. Not sure if suppose to do that, but at least it's freed up and was not difficult to install back.

The top part of the shaft has a 'scroll' or 'worm' which drives the tooth edged gear withing the pump. Its simply known as a worm and wheel gearing. You didn't actually get to the pumping section of the unit, purely the drive area. It was instructional none the less and will, I'm sure, enable an owner to remove the part if required.. Usually with mechanical feed pumps, the first you know of a failure is a seizure. Thats why some owners use a petroil mix. Regards.

Thank you very much I just bought two bikes and one was bypassed and I want to change it back to original so I hope the pump is fixable and I will now know to grease it. Iwill also use the synthetic oil.

I have a '78 express, I was wondering if you could tell me how much oil should be coming out of the oil pump at full throttle. I took off the line from the pump going to the intake and I noticed that when I was at full throttle, almost none came out; maybe a drip every 5 seconds. I know oil is getting to the pump, but it doesn't seem to be pumping it. Thanks, Alex.

Alex Cardali Im not sure of exact quantity's for the express, but they use hardly any oil to be honest the amount you are saying sounds right to me. Plus this is the awesome bit nowadays oils are so much better than when your bike was designed, even if it is not the exact amount it probably is fine. However if your worried then just use some extra oil in the gas untill you can tell the oil tank goes down, just so you know the injection system works. Alex

Does your smaller oil pump line go into the carb? Mine does, as it has a nipple on the carb, does yours go straight onto the intake?

I have a '78 Express. My mechanic has cleaned the carb, replaced the spark plug, battery, air filter, it's been filled repeatedly with synth oil,etc. However, the Express started losing power about 6 weeks ago and, now, it'll start but won't stay running and or loses power when I start to excelerate. Over the last month or so, the engine has sounded like it's running dry. The next step we're going to try is cleaning the oil pump. If you have any other suggestions, I'd be grateful.

Beck... I would check the battery. If it doesn't stay properly charged you will loose power, have trouble starting it, and possibly blow your headlight. You can view my blog and see where to get a new battery online. www.hondaexpressmoped.com Wouldn't hurt to pickup a cheap engine temperature gauge (treatland.tv) and install it. If your engine runs dry you could overheat and seize the engine. Although, this is less likely if you haven't done any upgrades to engine. You might also have an air leak in the engine. More air will cause engine to run hot and possibly overheat. Can cause high RPMs with little power. Good luck. Let me know how it turns out.
