Thank you for the video! I have an 82 Honda Express NC50, it's been a while since I tuned it. Once you get the screws to the perfect position, it'll run like a champ. Pretty impressive for a 35-year-old 2-cycle engine. And way more fun.

Were you able to find a replacement carburetor or did you have to refurbish the original? Have an 82 as well and need a new carburetor but cant seem to find any for 82's

You have helped me so much. This video just explained everything I needed to know. Perfect thank you so much I have been messing with this carb for days and it always idled way to fast and now I understand that bevel has to face the front. Thanks again Chuck from Michigan

My tank had an internal leak causing the gas and the oil to mix randomly. That's a problem a lot of people overlook. So you either get the tank fixed by tank treatment, a willing welder, get a "new" tank or you use premix in both the gas and the oil sides of the tank. Premix is 50:1 with a good synthetic 2 stroke oil like Castrol TTS.

Good video but you never pointed out which is the front of the carburator, I am assuming the front is the large hole we were looking in to see the throttle slide. Many will assume the front is where the mixure screws are located. It will fit both directions.

@terand1967 What kind of spring? Little coil spring? There are two of them, "coil springs" one goes around the idle mixture screw and the other around the idle speed adjustment screw. There should be no spring in the float bowl area. Nor at the float needle. If yours is an older 78 it will have a black float and use a wire clip to hold the float needle to the float. Later ones have a tan float and did NOT use any clip to hold the float needle in place. Thanks for the comment.

@tazman041 What diaphram? The only things inside these carbs are needle valve, float and screw that holds it down, idle mixture screw with a rubber o-ring small metal washer and spring, idle speed screw with a spring, float bowl gasket, drain screw with a rubber o-ring, non removable jet. there is really nothing more in there. besides the imulshion tubes for the main jet and slow jet, AKA idle mixture tube.

Sounds to me like your on the right path. I would check both petcock and auto choke. First petcock. did you remove it when sealing the tank? If so it would have been a great time to clean it and make sure it's working correctly. Also there is a fuel filter that goes in the tank and most people forget about it. If you did not remove it before sealing the tank you will have blocked it completly. you have to remove the petcock and the filter will almost always stay in the tank just above petcock.

@barryjackson123 If you mean you had to make a "loop" in the fuel line? It's no problem. All my bikes are set up that way. Does not hinder the fuel flow at all. And actually with a loop in the line you will notice the low spot will collect some of the crap that the filter misses. So it's actually a good thing in my opinion. Loop, droop, I think we are talking about the same basic thing.

Get yourself some carb cleaner in a spray can take off the aircleaner if there is one, open the throttle all the way and spray about a one to two second burst of carb cleaner in the carb opening. Close the throttle and crank the engine. See if it tries to fire. If so you know your not getting fuel. Might take a few cranks of the engine as your putting a lot of "fuel" down the intake.

Pull the spark plug and hold about 1/2in away from the cylinder head should throw a spark at least that far. Use gloves so as not to get zapped. If your getting a good spark I would suspect fuel issue, most likely the auto choke is at fault. Shoot some fuel down the carb throat and see if you get it to fire. Also exhaust on these tend to plug up. Pull the muffler and see if it will fire, do not run long with no exhaust, just enough to confirm it runs.

Where does the small spring go for these carbs? Pulled my '78 apart as it was leaking via the overflow, suspecting a stuck float inlet needle. Can't figure out where the small spring went though...doesn't seem to be for under the float arm, but can't tell from the online service manuals. Ideas ...?? Thanks - great videos!

@barryjackson123 By your description, I think what your talking about is the main jet. It is a pressed in jet and is non replaceable. But they have been known to come out and disapear. I'll see if I can make a video showing what your talking about to see if I'm understanding you right. If so, and your main jet is gone, your bike will never run right. Might not even start. I have been looking through all my parts to try and find you a chike plug, but no luck yet. I'll keep looking.

Hello again. Just getting ready to fire up my express after a winter in my basement restoring. Just a quick question regarding fuel supply. I decided to put a small in-line fuel filter . As you know, the distance between the end of the petcock and the carb is quite short. Without the inline filter, the fuel line pretty much drops into the carb in a short run. However, when I installed the filter, I had to create a bit longer droop in the fuel line. Do you think this will be a problem?
@OHRCvintagemoto14 жыл бұрын
hey, this will be very helpful. As we've chatted the other day, I'm searching for an elusive choke plug. Also on the carb of my 78 when I first pulled off the bowl, one of the very bottom pieces of one of the long brass tubes that goes into the bowl (the one in the center I believe) was corroded off. Its about 1/2 a cm long. I wonder how this would affect the carb performance? It doesn't appear to be a replaceable part and is part of the body itself.

I have a 81 Honda express. I can only get moped to run by taking the air cleaner off and putting my hand over and using my hand as a choke. It will only stay running for a few seconds and it quits, but if I keep my hand half way over it will stay running. If I put the air cleaner on it won't start at all. Do you have any ideas of what might be wrong.

I know it's an old video, but hoping for some help. I start my bike and it immediately starts, first kick. However twisting the throttle does nothing at all. It doesn't sound like idle too high, and it doesn't die out even after warming up (so I'm thinking the choke isn't stuck on). I don't remember being able to see thru that idle circuit when I cleaned it out, but as it idles, maybe it was clear and I just didn't look at it right. Any ideas?

I have completely disassembled my gas tank and carburetor of my 1981 NX50 Express SR. The fuel is now clean out of the tank (used a tank sealant: KREEM) and cleaned the carb with bcarb cleaner. For good measure I installed an in line fuel filter. THERE IS NO GAS GETING TO THE FUEL FILTER, LET ALONE THE CARB. I sprayed starting fluid in the air cleaner and I get turn over and about 10 seconds of idle, before it konks. Can you help? Is this a petcock or auto choke blockage?

I just got done cleaning the carb on my 1981 Honda Express II and I have a problem. My throttle slide (which slides in from on top the carb and is secured by twisting it tightly) spins [rotates inside the carb] a half-turn [90 degrees] so that the bevel is no longer facing the front; opening the intake all the way and causing the Honda to idle at maximum rpm. Has anyone experienced the beveled slide to rotate 90 degrees on start-up, opening the whole intake hole? Could this be due to a faulty gasket on the screw-on (the bottle-top part of the throttle which secures the slide to the carb) piece of the throttle slide?

Hi I know its been a long time since you did the urban express nu50m carb. thanks for replying! alright its definitely not the spark plug. and its definitely not the muffler. (both are brand new) so its a fuel problem. And im pretty sure its the autochoke but i can't open the mechanism up because the screws are stripped so i might as well buy a new one. how do you propose i shoot fuel through the carb throat? like straight from the gas tank to intake? or still through the carb and send the the carb to intake manifold?

Just wanted to thank you and ask a question. First, thank you, thank you, thank you. I bought an 82 or 83 NU50 off my downsizing inlaws. It hadn't run in 15 years. I pulled the carb and soaked the heck out of it. Ordered a gasket kit and put it all in. I thought I put it all together correctly. But it ran at a super high idle for a couple seconds. I was ready to replace the carb until I saw this video. It now idles fine and runs ok too, except that it bogs down under acceleration. I have to feather the gas to get it going, and then have to continue to feather at mid throttle. Too much gas at launch or while riding and it bogs down or dies if I don't back off the gas. it also doesn't go any faster than about 20mph. Any thoughts or direction?
