That's called a Hossack front end. A brilliant design, many decades old, and I wonder why more makers don't use it. Prior Goldwings had standard tubes and more front brake dive. BMW's implementation is called Duolever, used on the K1600 since 2011.

Middle of the night here. Woke up. I'll keep this until the morning and report back later. I love these bikes. Good morning. I agree: torque rules. 50 mpg is good. I love the retractable screen. I'd rather have foot boards. Good it doesn't have a touch screen. They're awful things. Top-loading panniers would be better. The horn is as loud as my Can-Am F3-S's. Does the paint on high-quality plastics fade? Excellent review of a quality motorcycle. Tilting Motor Works will be busy making a two-wheel adapter kit for the front. It will make it all really expensive, but I already have my three-wheeler which I treat as my car. What to buy as my big two-wheeler is my big question.

Like the reviews and your detail is excellent and informative. My only slight criticism is that the roads you test on are small country lanes. This means you never actually push the bike more than a gentle tootle around. Would love to see you expand your riding routes especially when reviewing a bike made for munching miles
@MrDarcy-OlMan4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter. We testride the bikes on all roads including duel carriageways and motorways. We don't film all of that for safety reasons and on our initial testride, we don't film at all. We try each bike at all speeds and for varying distances, and always include pushing the bike hard. Not only that, but above 50mph, the wind noise on the gopro is deafening and completely spoils the video, so the riding you see is done purely to show the bike moving. The filming is done separately.

This is my 4th new Gold Wing since 84. I’ve had all generations and all new. 84 GL1200, 89GL1500, and now 15GL1800 and now a 20DCT Tour. THAT'S my biggest problem ... too much plastic! For all that money I need more apparent quality. There are too many plastic buttons and plastic panels and plastic doors and on and on. The plastic isn't even that impressive. There's a wobble or a lightness or an oil-canning to it all ... oh, and sorry, I need a clutch. Everything else is very nice, just not my plastic cup of tea. Mr. Darcy seems to be more engaged this video. He is becoming a fine reviewer. He kept his hands out of his pockets through almost all of the vid. Just think how good he'll be when his beard grows in. ;) Truly a _world class_ video. You covered everything I need to know and more. I'm looking for or looking forward to your Harley review. Thank you so much.

@sitrepSNAFU4 жыл бұрын
@@MrDarcy-OlMan the plastic is disappointing, BUT that speed and to meet budget and low emissions, it's probably the future of bikes. Carbon fibre would have added to the quality and the price.

....at 26 minutes mark: you cannot be serious suggesting the plastic will UV fade. Ok, maybe in Nevada. If that were true every Honda car, every Porsche, every current passenger car on the market would be the same: Pedestrian impact bumpers and wings on millions of cars are plastic - and don't fade.,

Such a cool bike. The horn is epic and the best in the business. Back lighted handlebar switches for night riding, technology for days, smooth, fast, torquey and looks fantastic. The DCT is quick off the line and a nice feature in traffic and long haul traveling. Honda makes good stuff with a history of proven reliability. The beard is classic. Ride safe and ride often. Peace.

I’d take the BMW R 18, but out of the 2 you mention, the Triumph Rocket 3 has more soul and is a great bike

After a history of riding powerful sport bikes (I still own a customized 2008 B-King), as I am getting older I am learning to love cruiser bikes. Or let's say comfortable bikes. I got a cheap '94 Honda Shadow 600 and absolutely loving it. Wouldn't mind riding around on this Gold Wing actually, it looks pretty and decently comfortable. I guess it makes for a wonderful ride. Like you said it is a gentleman's cruiser, looks very sleak and modern. And 24k is not even that high priced, especially if you compare it to the Harley Davidson Road King for example. Maybe some time in the future I might get something like this. And the old man finally found a bike where he doesn't look too big on, while riding it :D

Hold on, it's a great bike full stop. If you don't know "DCT" , get onboard. Had DCT since 2014 and run it manual 100% of the time because it's amazing! Size matters... you a tall fella and not looking comfy as you present on that seat...... Not my issue. lol! This bike is top dog. Full stop! From an x-Triumph owner.

Awesome. Strangely, even though the bike is big overall, the riding position isn’t much different to the Honda Monkey

@@MrDarcy-OlMan Having had Harleys and Wings followed by 10 Adventure style bikes I just don't like the cruiser aspect. Im recovering from a pal riding his BMW GTLE1600 into the back of my leg thus pushing the Spiky footage on my BMW R1250 Rallye inside my left leg. 2 ops later I thought the DCT would work a left leg a bit knackered but the whole thing was just to much it was a little underpowered and very heavy at stops for my legs. But Everything else WOW! apple car play and all the features the seat was nice although Im six foot 2 i was knee bent and a little hip ache after 175mies. The bike is great if cruisers are your style...The Honda dealer I bought it from I cant praise a dealer highly enough Miles Kingsport at Hull. Thats where it now is 350 miles ready for a new Lover/Owner.

@@MrDarcy-OlMan Well i wish BMW would make a lighter belt driven alloy framed 1000cc boxer but no they are just getting heavier.. So I'm building my leg strength. I have a nice hole in leg but that will turn into a shark or a grizzly bear story? LOL Hoping Ducati bring the V4 Multistrada or enduro with a manageable weight and height NOV 4th. A really good review! It's certainly an extremely capable bike and I love the concept but I am struggling to see with the size and weight why you wouldn't just use a car. After all it looks a bit like a small car from the rear. How does it compare weight and size wise against BMW's R18 as they are a similar weight?
@MrDarcy-OlMan4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The Honda is heavier than the R 18 but they are so different to ride. The Honda feels more like a quad or ATV and the R 18 has much more character and soul.

Luiz Carlos Laba No problem Luiz! It is a more comfortable ride for sure. The Harley is more involving and wild, whereas the Gold Wing is more refined and better behaved if that makes sense.
