Excellent tutorial, thank you. Just an FYI to any future viewers, it takes about 5 minutes to get the jets out but mine were clean as was the float needle. If this happens to you check the fuel shut off valve. There's a metal plate with 2 screws that comes off and then a spring washer. Then the plastic handle comes out and under that is a gasket with 4 holes, one comes from the fuel intake pie from the tank. Mine was all gunked up with old gas residue. Clean it out, reassembled, started right up.

You absolute legend. I’ve got a Loncin G200, which is basically a copy of this Honda engine and had it stored for 2 years with old fuel in it. I wasn’t sure I was capable of this, but like you said, it was easy. I used the wire from an old mouse trap to push the second carburettor piece through and a sewing pin to clear all of the holes. I put it back together and it started on the second pull. The motor is on a chipper/shredder so it’s a bulky thing to get to the repair shop, you just saved me so much hassle and money, I wish I could buy you a beer. Many thanks from Bull Creek, South Australia.

Couple things. Torch tip cleaners are a good option for cleaning the jet. I see you have this on a log splitter. Here's something I learned. I have a Honda GX 270 on mine and I forgot to turn off the fuel before traveling with the splitter (about 30 miles). Pulled it behind my truck, which I don't really recommend due to lack of suspension. Anyway, I forgot to turn the fuel off. When all was said and done I checked the oil and discovered gasoline had gotten into my oil. I think having the fuel on while bumping around on the road caused the float bowl to constantly allow small amounts of gas pas the needle valve and went into the intake, which then seaped past the oil rings and down into the oil. So, be sure to turn that fuel off, especially if traveling.

Excellent ... simply excellent and thank you SO MUCH !!! My 160 has been problematic since I purchased it (used). This 15 - 30 min fix worked wonders. The jets (holes) being so small I merely hit them with a blast of air from my compressor and they were sparkling clean. One pull and away she went.... runs like a top !!!!

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for the vid. Getting set for hurricane season here in SWFL and my 10 year old Honda GX 340 powered generator would not start (first time ever). Went thru everything : spark= yes, fuel to carb = yes. changed gas=yes, cleaned all filters & screens.. Still would not run. Stumbled across your video & followed it, "Voila" it started on the second pull. Thinking back now 2 years ago during Hurricane Ian, we needed the generator for a full week before power was restored. Anyway, I started to remember choke issues I was having back then. I noticed engine would run better at half choke even after being warm & I was puzzled then but now I realize it was a sign the jets were beginning to clog up and fuel restriction was starting to show itself. You are a lifesaver thanks & God Bless.

That’s great you fixed it. If you keep Stabil fuel additive in your fuel all the time which is very inexpensive to do you’ll never have this problem again. Just make it a habit of keeping it in your gas cans all the time so that when you pour the fuel into your fuel tanks it’s already treated with Stabil.👍😃

Interesting. I worked as mechanic for a mason contractor. We ran nothing but Honda's on all are small engine equipment. We ran nothing but regular 10% ethanol fuel. Those boys would bring mixers back that you couldn't tell the color, they were so covered in mortar, both hard and dust. I'd pressure wash them clean, beat the hard mortar off the tubs etc.. Put on a fresh air filter, plug and oil change, and 1 pull starts. Occasionally they'd get some water in the gas or mortar in the gas tank and I would have to break down the carbs to clean them. Many of our engines had been running for years this way without a hitch. I even had a stash of old engines I had taken off equipment that was completely shot, but the engines were still good. Give them a clean up, tune up and put them away. Whenever I needed to replace an engine that blew up, which was rare, I would grab one of these, throw it on, fuel it up and 1 pull start. Just stating my experience with Honda engines.

Thankyou. Excellent video and easy method. I did this on a chipper-mulcher with a GX200 engine. It had blocked jets due to not being used for 2 years. Fuel had dried out. I used a dressmakers pin to clear jets and also cleaned out a sticky coating from sediment bowl. It's important to drain fuel bowl if storing engine for long periods.

@@proclaimliberty2000 Thanks for the tip. In the case of my GX200 it is easy to loosen the bolt on the fuel reservoir, or turn off the fuel switch and let the engine use up the fuel in the carb. Stabilizer looks expensive, around $10/100ml.

Ive been doing small engine repair for 30 yrs ...this all works fine with a clean carburetor ... try that jet removal on one that's been sitting with old fuel in it ..ha ha it DON'T come apart so easy will it . the carburetor will need to come completely off the motor and be soaked in cleaning solution for little while to free every thing up . .. most of the time its just a little water sitting in the bowl . try draining it (carb and tank ) and then flush the system with a little fresh fuel . might work with just that .

your a dumb fuck god is a sciopath arent you... the whole purpose of the shutoff valve isnt to empty a bowl.. its to stop the flow of fuel into the engine and crankcase.. not to mention any leaks you might have.....and charlie i agree.. i have to fix peoples idiocy also.. most of time its caused from not using non ethenol, or a mix with ethenol killers.. a little water can fuck a engine up and a little gas in piston head can fuck a crank case up.... these people are jokes.. god before you speak your idiocy you need to go to school for small engines or at least tear them apart and fix them not just the carb you little shit
@NickFrom1228

Have to agree. I've seen so many people leave fuel in their engine then it won't start (usually 2 cycle). they ask me what to do and I tell them first, get brand new, non-ethanol fuel and try it. Most of the time that's all they needed. I know a person who once had his mix fuel in a container sitting in his back yard. What he didn't know is that those stupid lid/hose things are not water tight at times. So, sitting in the rain it accumulated water. I ended up draining out the fuel tank, clearing the cylinder and adding new fuel. Fired right up. His fuel was 2/3 water, no lie.

Just one minor detail, Tommy. How many sets of tip cleaners can I afford opposed to the ultrasonic rig? It would be nice but I'm just a poor boy and just build carbs for mainly myself and don't charge friends if I do theirs but parts. My Yankey wrench man buddy boils his out. I just scrub and scrape. Hi-tech stuff is nice but it's got a good $$ hanging off it. Glad for you but I'll just have to stay the way I am unless my ship comes in and being in the hills, it ain't looking very good.

I just fixed one of these. I checked for spark, then cleaned the whole carb, including what you show. It still wouldn't run, but would try to start the odd time. I checked for spark again, and had spark at the plug gap. Finally, I put a known good spark plug in, and it started 1st pull. I have now been caught twice with plugs that fire at atmospheric pressure, but won't under compression. I'm going to have to remember this lesson again.

Thank you!, my Simpson pressure washer with Honda GX engine has worked perfect for 10+ years, always drained fuel, added oil to cylinder head, and used storage lube on pump, when done. But this year it would not start, checked for spark-good, checked spark plug for fuel-none!, fuel was not getting to cylinder and that is when I knew I needed help. Found this video, and removed the fuel jets, it was the first one with the big hole on the end that was plugged solid, cleaned and reassembled and now works perfect. Only tricky issue was finding a screw driver that fit up into the jet housing, have 20+ flat blade screw drivers, none fit partly because they were either too long or blade was not wide enough for shorter ones. So cut off most of the handle of a longer one, and while the tip was the right width (used mirror to look up jet housing) the shaft widened out too much so that it would not fit into housing, so filed the shaft flush to the width of the tip and then screw driver fit.

UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust kzbin.infoUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Good video! I did not read all of the comments before posting this so my ideas might have already been mentioned. Suggestion - after cleaning those pieces in the manner shown in the video, I would rinse them with some mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, or even a little bit of gasoline if you have nothing else (ONLY USE GAS IF YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO USE IT IN THAT MANNER WITHOUT A MISHAP). Then if you have a compressor, hit them with some compressed air to dry them and remove any tiny debris that remains. I personally take the lazy way out and spray them good with WD40 in an aerosol can which takes the place of a liquid cleaner and air pressure. AND YES clean carbs are not difficult but older cruddy carbs will require more effort!

Save yourself this problem by using STA-Bil, I swear by this stuff, it not only cleans but it keeps the gas good for things such as this that don't get a lot of use. The best way to convince yourself this works, when you have something that starts to run bad, use sta-bil and it will fix it because it is obviously just getting dirty.

Its very expensive but here in the UK we can buy a synthetic petrol which is ok to leave in machinery for up to 5 years, the trick to do is buy some, let your lawnmower run out of petrol at the end of the season, then just put a little of this stuff in the tank and restart the engine for a minute before laying up for winter.

Good thing to check first.Having rebuilt many Honda carbs,the jet usualy is not the problem.There minute passages in the carb that get plugged up and need cleaning, but a good idea.

It's usually the transfer ports too small to get anything in to clean them. We use an ultrasonic tank 175 degrees with ultrasonic soap for about an hour or so. Cleaning the jets is never a bad idea though.

Thank You..I have a Honda Generator that is giving me a problem running and this is the most likely suspect. Spark and fuel are OK but carburetor seems plugged so tomorrow I'll give this a go and see if this is the culprit. Cheers from newly Fiona wrecked Nova Scotia..lol. Cheers Mike. ( Edit: followed your instructions next day and this worked great..had my generator up and running in no time. Thanks Again!)

Honda carbs are the best, I absolutely do run into these "remove the whole air filter box / carburetor combo" occasions, but sometimes you do get lucky if it's not a severe blockage, remove the bowl and use some starter fluid or carb cleaner, shoot up inside the jet, or run a garbage bag twist tie wire (plastic stripped off) up through the jet, lots of times, will get you going in a pinch, on the back of a truck.

Perfect solution. Thank you. I could get mine to fire but it would not run--starved for fuel. The jets were blocked solid (not gummy)). Toughest part of the job was finding steel wire with a small enough diameter to clear each of the holes. Copper wire was too soft to break through without bending. Anyone have thoughts on running straight Berryman B12 through the gas tank at the end of the season to eliminate this problem (or is just running it to empty and draining the bowl sufficient)?
@proclaimliberty2000
@proclaimliberty2000 5 ай бұрын
Do not drain the bowl at the end of the season. Instead always keep a full tank of fuel with Stabil fuel additive in it and run it through the system. If you want to avoid a lot of problems, just keep Stabil fuel additive in the fuel all the time. The best thing to do is to put the Stabil fuel additive in the gas can and then add the fuel to the gas tank. This way you always have Stabil additive in the fuel system.

Most of the time the problem is a flooded engine not clogged jets. I have several Honda engines set up like yours. The problem is people DONT SHUT OFF THE GAS lever. Since the gas tank is in top and the gas is gravity fed, if you leave the gas lever in the on position your carb gets flooded. You can pull the handle all you want and it will not start. To correct it just turn the gas off and drain the bowl no need to keep going to the jets... For this reason I don't use the on\off switch to turn the engine off.. now I just turn the gas off ( when I'm,done,for the day) and let the engine run till it stops... just my 2 cents

just about every honda GX series engines have the same type of carb build. so on that note if your gonna clean one out @lewie mcneely has a good point cutting torch tip cleaners work great especially if you spray if down with some carb cleaner and let it sit for a minute. but in my opinion if your going to clean one thats been sitting with fuel in it for awhile go ahead and pic up a carb rebuild kit. their cheaper then buying a new carb and it will help if some of the rubber grommets have started to break down. also while your in that deep go ahead and grab yourself a new throttle return spring and plop one of those on. check your spark plug maybe clean it up and your golden. if your looking at picking up a piece of equipment like this i would suggest buying atleast one carb rebuild kit a bottle of carb cleaner and extra spark plug a extra air filter and some rope for the pull start. if you grab those items you should be golden. but if your not going to use it often make sure you put some fuel stabilizer in the tank to make sure your fuel doesnt turn into gel lol. one last thing i strongly suggest. always this these engines, when you go to turn it off instead of just flicking the off switch cut the fuel off and let it burn the fuel in the carb and kill itself then flick that off switch. that will pervent fuel from gumming up in the carb if you accidently leave it for awhile and dont put fuel stabilizer in the tank. you follow those steps and you should be set for a long time before you need to even consider buying extra parts. thanks for sticking around this long and reading my rambling lol

Easy to do and great video BUT brass jets should never be cleaned with steel wire, with any precise orifice you have to use a cleaning tool that is softer than the material the jet is made from... in this case copper wire or nylon strand. You risk deforming the jet orifice over time if you use something harder.

I used to use an Epson ET-2550 kzbin.infoUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 , an early model of the ink tank style. It worked well, but had one nuisance that drove me up the wall; if you didn't put it in high quality print mode you'd get a streak across the page. I'm happy to say I have yet to see this with this printer. The print quality has been fantastic so far, the set up was super easy. All in all I'm very happy with this printer.

why would small engine shops hate this video. it's basic troubleshooting.
@anthonyspencer766
@anthonyspencer766 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly why they would hate this stuff. Small engine shops love users who don't do the right prep before off season and don't know the basic troubleshooting to clean these parts, because they're regular business. A lot of people who can troubleshoot small engine problems means less people coming through the door except to buy new equipment, which isn't as regular. Although, there is enough planned obsolescence in most small pieces of equipment that most people tend to just toss their stuff when it fails, and buy new stuff every few years. Here's a profitable hobby: learn small engines, then go buy "defunct" lawnmowers on craigslist for $20, spend 30 minutes getting the engine running, buy a new deck, and resell.
