Glad I found your video.... we are on our second transmission.. and the second one was never right even though we bought it new.. it's only lasted 3 years. At a cost of 1200 Canadian. We glad we could still get one though.

Excellent, I have the exact same problem. My local repair man said similar, but you nailed it. Was a bit scared to break it in half, but like you say, its not too hard. They are $1200 here

Thank you I hope you get it going for cheap. I like these mowers with there single blade, I just think they mow a little better then a dual blade setup.

I most likely have same problem, just smoked a belt, new one smoking, pulley frozen, these are similar to Craftsman and AYP tractor Dana/Peerless transaxles, some have 00 oil some have grease, some you can add optional drive shaft bearings on each side, there is a spot for them. I had this issue in the USA market transaxles and I drilled and tapped a grease fitting in the top input shaft, every year I would pump grease into the input shaft fitting I installed, going to do this to my 1011 now. The grease does not go up into the input shaft bearings like it should and that's why they fail.

Is there any way we could communicate by phone? Is the input shaft pulley supposed to be solid or does the bottom of pulley spin? I notice there's also some play in the pulley where it goes down in the case. The symptom was, I had mowed for 30 minutes,went to put in reverse and mower wouldn't move and there was black smoke coming from under the body.. I thought it was the drive belt,but it was intact. Would appreciate your input.

The INA SEC1010 input shaft needle bearings are available from Grainger as their item #4XFH9 for $6.55 ea. Motion Industries has the needle bearings too(for a slightly higher price), but they also have the FF 703-07 bronze flange bearings with the correct thickness flange (3/32), their item no. 00008929.

I guess the comment about these things sometimes having water in them answers my question. My granddad tried to go boating with his harmony 1011 and it spent a day or 2 submerged in water. We thought we had it all dried out and fixed up but now the transaxle won't even shift, it just feels like the shifter linkage is bending. Thanks for the pics, doesn't look to bad to split the cases.
@johnnymoran11776 жыл бұрын
I got lucky, my woodruff key was all wore out, so the pulley was bad, but the input shaft feels tight. The only thing that concerns me is that there seems to be a lot of slack when I turn the input shaft by hand. It takes at least an 1/4 turn forward or backwards to move the axle. Could the chain inside the transaxle be worn out? Is there even a replacement chain available?
@BenHuttash6 жыл бұрын
On mine the input shaft bearing had seized and when it did the Woodruff key shredded the inside of my pulley. Double check it just to be sure. Because that sounds exactly like what mine did.

Have one of these mowers it was wot king fine yesterday today I went to use it but the transmission would not engage I jacked it up and put it in gear and the wheels did turn the clutch did seems to feel soft is there a way to adjust it to engage stronger?

I believe my pulley it self is bad. Is the shaft end tapered? Or can that be changed out with spilling the trans? Is removing the trans fairly straightforward? Your full write up link doesn’t seem to work. Thanks
@BenHuttash2 жыл бұрын
I let my website go a while back. I was too broke to renew the site. Oops. If I remember correctly the shaft is tapered and must be pulled out by splitting the case. I also struggled a bit removing the pulley but it comes off without splitting the case. Sorry I don’t have more useful insights to offer, it’s just been so long I don’t remember the project very well. I still have my mower and the transmission repair has held up.

Thank you for the reply and info. I saw that it was an older video, and figured I would try anyway and ask 😅. Good to hear that the repair has held up. Looks like this weekends project Thanks again

Great video. I do have a question. My Dad has the same mower and I was trying to purchase new blades and a mulching kit for him as a surprise. However, every place I look online the part is obscelete. Do you know if there is another brand or universal - that would fit this riding mower? Any help or tips would be appreciated. Who knew a surprise would be so hard to locate, haha. Thanks:)

Those parts haven't been produced for a long time. Honda quit making those mowers years ago because, according to my dealer, "the numbers weren't there". INOW, they weren't selling enough of them to suit Honda Management. Too many people prefer to buy cheap no-name junk from the big box stores every few years instead of a high quality machine that lasts for decades (mine is 22 years old).

ok, I am trying to split the case,,,, what do I use besides a wood chisel, i don't want to start smashing it too hard, it snaps shut. Should I use a flat air hammer?
@recentlychanged5 жыл бұрын
If your case doesn't separate easily, you've most likely overlooked one or more case screws. Mine literally fell open when all the screws were removed.

Ben - I have a 1011 too and some fluid is leaking out of the left rear axle, near the tire and black frame (mounting bolts). The Honda schematic I have doesn't give any insight; I'm thinking it's either gear lubricant or hydrostatic fluid coming out. Any idea what it might be and how to address the issue? Thanks...
@BenHuttash7 жыл бұрын
+Karl Wolff mine doesn't have a hydrostatic transmission so it only had grease in it. It is possible for the oil to separate from the grease even then I don't think it would be able to leak, not unless it got water in it and allowed it to overflow. I have a 22 inch commercial Honda walk behind with a hydrostatic dive axle that used to leak. It eventually got so bad that it would quit working on me. I lived with it for months filling it up with automatic transmission fluid to keep it going. Eventually I got tired of filling it up and went to fix the leak. Turns out it had some loose blots and after tightening them the leak stopped. Good luck with the leak.
@karlwolff80767 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply; I really appreciate it! I'll tighten the nuts (and top off the hydrostatic fluid) and see if that does the trick.
