We have a 2021 outdoor. I've owned many different 4 wheel and all wheel drives before. This little crosstrek is shockingly good in snow with outstanding fuel economy. Why is no one mentioning Subaru's insane maintenance schedule? I calculated close to $5k for regular maintenance costs (excluding parts) for first 5 years of ownership - despite fact I only do 8,500km / yr. The Subaru's "time" factor is the killer compared to Honda's mostly mileage-based maintenance schedule. If you're going to include "price" in the debate as to which is the better vehicle, then "required maintenance costs" should also be part of that discussion.

CVT requires frequent flushing and has an inl-ine thermostat for heating & cooling the special 0 - 16 ATF. The 2.5 Boxer requires a lot of TLC too and has its coolant thermostat buried under the water pump . . . expensive. Replacing 4 spark plugs could easily cost you cost $800 and labor rates are now skyrocketing. Imfotainment is becoming a major issue . . . and will just get worse as the vehicle ages.I Don't think full time AWD will last on paved roads 99% of the time especially with a 4cyl. / CVT. Takes a very special kind of mechanic to even touch one of these and don't count on the dealership to provide expertise..You could take loving care of this Crosstrek and still wind up with an expen$ive disposable car. even though most brands brag . . . should last 200k - 300k mi. they start falling apart around 100k. It's mostly about the cheap parts they are made with at the factory . . . all of them

Great fuel economy (7-8 L/100 in the summer and 9-12 L/100 depending on conditions in the winter). Does it's job as a comfortable daily commuter and when I throw a ski box/bike rack on there, it's the perfect camp/adventure/weekend rig. Only gripe is the spongy rear springs (thinking of upgrading them to reduce sag under load) and the 21 did not come with LED headlights. Stock halogens are nowhere near bright enough at night IMO. This seems to be fixed in the 2023 Outdoor model though... amazing.

I thought they are announcing a new trim for 2024. 2023 already came out.
@JGK492 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that “supposedly” on 9/15 there will be some sort of video from Japan showing the revised Crosstrek for 2024, which means the vehicle that probably will first be coming to dealers about a year from now. I have also read that vehicle will first be displayed in North America at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November. The 2023 Crosstrek I assume will be coming to dealers very soon. It is virtually the same as the 2022 model. There is one new trim with a new color and some stitching but in essence there is no change from 2022 to 2023. The expectation had been that the 2023 coming out now would have been their big remodel year. Historically Subaru has done a major inside and outside revision every five years. The last major revision was 2018. In 2021 there was a refresh and a new engine offering. Apparently dealers and Subaru bloggers were quite surprised when a few months ago the 2023 options came online and it was virtually an unchanged vehicle. Supposedly Subaru is delaying the major revision until the 2024 model, coming out a year from now because of supply chain issues. There is an expectation that in addition to significant exterior and interior changes that there will likely be a Crosstrek Wilderness version offered as well.

There is an important point regarding the fuel economy figures: Subarus, including the Crosstrek, often do not meet their EPA numbers. Almost every review I’ve seen or read on Subarus shows this. The 2023 HRV, however, seems to consistently beat its EPA fuel economy figures. Again, almost all l reviewers that have tested its fuel economy mention this. So while the Crosstrek on paper may have better fuel economy numbers, the HRV might actually have the edge in the real world. This actually makes sense. Subarus are usually not light for their class, boxer engines are not particularly fuel efficient, the 2.0 and 2.5 liter boxer engines Subaru uses are not new designs with the latest fuel-saving tech, and the inclusion of AWD on virtually all Subarus further saps their fuel economy stats. Also, Honda makes more engines than anyone else in the world, and specializes in fuel efficient engines. And both the Crosstrek and the HRV come with CVTs, so no advantage to either side there. It would be bizarre if the AWD Crosstrek with the bigger, more powerful 2.5 liter engine actually got better real world fuel economy than even a FWD HRV with its standard 2.0 liter engine. Nothing against Subarus, I love them. But that’s just a point that needed to be made.

I haven't had a chance to driver the Honda HR-V but took the 2023 Subaru Forestor Limited out yesterday with the 182-hp, 2.5-L Direct Injection engine. Currently driving a 14 Civic LX, overall very impressed. Pros: steering; seats; quiet cabin; power and you sit a little higher than a car but not alot. Cons: as it was only a test drive and having never owned a car with alot of tech, the tech for me would be a learning curve but all the new vehicles are like this. Almost too much tech really. I would likely turn off Adaptive Cruise Control & Lane Keep Assist Features. To me the driver needs to still do the basics when driving. After test driving the top trim HR-V and the Crosstrek Outdoor, I can say your review nailed it. The HR-V had a nice interior look but we found the seats uncomfortable. But not as uncomfortable as the price. It is at least 5-8000 dollars overpriced. I think those that will buy this vehicle are brand loyal and are not really checking out the competition because I didn’t really see any advantages. It’s a shame because I liked the look of them. Downside with the Crosstrek is that they are scarce, but looking at what you get for the money it is easy to see why they are so popular.

I believe that the manual 2.0 litre represents one of the very best value propositions in the automotive industry, even when compared to U.S. dollar prices. I would absolutely be willing to lose the power difference of the 2.5L and Subaru’s CVT transmission ‘feel’ (and reliability and noise) for the much cheaper, simpler and more enjoyable driving manual. Despite power loss. It is definitely on my shopping list when considering whaI I might replace my Wife’s Volkswagen with. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights.

LOL...Same view on a stick shift. I wish Subaru would offer the manual with the 2.5 L.......It's as if they see a manual transmission as "the poor man's option".....How about for people who like spirited driving? Cause a CVT will do many things, spirited driving isn't one of them! ;-) Cheers

It is definitely a popular choice, I can't tell you how many I see in our neighbourhood. Although the week we test drove the new HR-V, I saw 3 white ones, same colour we had, I couldn't believe it. Haven't seen any since but maybe I am not paying as much attention.

Aesthetically, I like the HR-V better, but the quieter, smoother-riding, and more-powerful Crosstrek with 2.5 liter engine and better AWD would win, for me. A hybrid HR-V might tip the balance the other way.

The Subaru Crosstrek is, and has been the class leader since its inception. Like everyone mentions, IF ONLY, it received a 1.3L/1.5L turbo engine it would be more of a game changer, not to mention, game over for everyone in the class. As it sits, It still WINS!!!

I'm in Australia. My family members have had 7 Subarus (Forester, Outback, Crosstrek and Impreza hatch) in the last 15 years. Like them, my least favorite however was the Outback. There is no way Honda can match Subaru AWD when it goes to soft off-roading and in the wet. The insurance is also much lower in Subaru than Honda due to the safety features.

Ok let's hold the train a bit here. I am not sure I am interested in dealing with Canada Drives at all. The car to consider was a 2019 Convenience model Crosstrek at 29990. That car new accordingly to Kelley BB was 23870 that is likely US... and as I remember a friend's fully loaded Limited being 35 K in Coquitlam the convenience models then were about 27 k CDN. How the hell (that's how Zak would say it LOL) do you drive a car for 3 years put 66000 kms on it and ask more than it cost new? It's insane. A simple deflator added at 15 percent year one and 7 for the remaining years shows the current value to really be 18803.00 with a starting value of 27500. There are 4 years depreciation there. How can this be a car we can consider? Even the new model pricing in this video for the current car is cheaper! Who would buy that from Canada Drives? Only someone with a suitcase of mouldy money or a violin case to get rid of. Even with inflation...no way the numbers don't work. I know JD Power has come under fire for their pricing. Especially if banks are involved people will be under water before they even start the car! They will have to return their deals back to Ikea! Take that Canada Drive car to a dealer and see what they offer you for it. I bet around 15k if your buying something with a decent spread. Insanity and it's not only just here it's all over this game that is being played. No fault of Zak or Andrea but people "wake up" and spend your money wisely. Prices are so falsely inflated right now they do not even begin to make sense. If that were the case Warren Buffet would be buying car dealerships to hold the inventory as an investment and we don't see that do we. I could go on but don't get me started.......🤪

In my opinion, the Crosstrek is the most pragmatic vehicle that Subaru builds. Simple, affordable, decent size(need bigger? the Forrester is not that much more), reliable and efficient. I bemoan the fact that the plugin hybird is not available everywhere in Canada, but the Crosstrek wins in my book The HRV is too expensive starting price for what you get. Fix the price, the rear armrest situation, and offer the 1.5l turbo(maybe the 2 litre turbo too), and you'd have a vehicle that would be very hard to ignore.

The "no arm rest" bit of the HR-V is a deal-breaker for me; feels like an unfinished product that got kicked out of the door last minute.
