Hybrid cars work best when you commute from out side a city on a motorway. so the battery is charged on the way and electric is used in slow moving start stop city traffic.

it's incredible that in the 21st century we still behind technological advancement - and with that we continue the destruction of what is left from our environment throughout poor experimental engineering as we just witnessed from this comercial, these smarts cars are not too smart first of all, a car computer should be able to differentiate a sudden stop from a normal stop to prioritize fuel consumption according to the driver's habits before the car came to a stop, or while operating, then that could be considered progress at least in that area another isue to consider is fuel; why cars still need fuel to operate? these crazy designs are made to improve the wealth of these people that mass produce these comercial vehicles but do not benefit the end consumer after all

I noticed the civic motor has 18 coils in its motor, the accord has 24 coils whats differance the in power?
@TheAutoChannel7 жыл бұрын
Six coils. Sorry, I couldn't help it. More coils enhances ignition performance, which relates to lower emissions, better fuel consumption, and higher ignition voltage. A Honda Accord engine is typically larger than a Honda Civic engine, and it produces greater horse power. The Accord engine while being more powerful may not have as good fuel economy.

Is it possible to have the motor assisting the engine building torque at low rev by having it connected to a pulley on the engine and then having it disconnected when desired ? would that snap the belt or chain ? Anyway I love the accent.
@electrictroy201010 жыл бұрын
Honda's new design does exactly that, but it doesn't use a pulley. It uses a clutch to mechanically connect & disconnect the engine to the motor (which is tied to the wheels). It does this process anytime over 44 miles/hour
@GbMuthu6 жыл бұрын
Something like dual clutch. Only here 1 side works on the ICE & the other works on the electric motor. What i still don't understand is y isn't Honda able to design a comprehensive hybrid powerplant like Toyota has?! Toyota has completely replaced the gearbox with electrical motors to deal with the torque challenged regions of the ICE. Honda still seems to need some form of a gearbox & clutch to get the job done.

@@GbMuthu Personally, I love that my car has a gearbox and clutch. Makes it more fun to drive. Why should driving a car be mundane?
@GbMuthu6 жыл бұрын
@@85bbenjaminfan absolutely! Nothing like the good old manual tranny. All I'm saying is that if it needs to be an auto, might as well be an eCVT rather than those mechanical arrangements. For these are all Slower Heavier Costlier Thirstier or SH*T spelt with a C ;)

Too bad your IMA batteries (especially on the Civic Hybrids 2003 on) are trash right around 80,000 miles. Repair / replacement takes thousands of dollars.

Yea there’s a reason why they discontinued a hybrid for that model battery was out of nickel and the battery was in awkward area behind the seats.

My 2002 Insight has 130K miles, the battery still working fine. I am using a "grid charger" about every 2-3 months which reinvigorate the battery. This is the best car I have ever had.

hybrid sounds good but it's not as efficient as all electric
@TheAutoChannel Жыл бұрын
There's nothing particularly good about a gasoline-electric hybrid, but an E85-electric would be very good. Or an E85-E95 powered car that did not use any gasoline at all would be the best!

You have your facts all wrong. It's not "parallel" assistance, it's "serial", and it can't run on electric motor alone unless it's coasting or slowing down. The Prius is the one that has parallel assistance and can run on electric alone.

+Alvaro P. I deeply impressed by your opinion. I bought a civic hybrid 10 years ago in Japan but don't know how hybrid works. And my wife insists our car should be chosen by its color.

The insight will operate on electric only as long as the battery has enough power and under very light loads.

Honda hybrids don't have starters. The electric motor is what starts the car

@85bbenjaminfan Жыл бұрын

One thing I don't get is how can the engine start up again while driving, won't that ruin the starter motor
@zaro336 жыл бұрын
Joshua Dep there is no starter motor in a hybrid from my understanding. There is an electric motor that also works for regeneration. From my understanding, when the gas engine is going to start, the electric engine starts first with battery power which then when has engine is needed the electric engine already did the work of the starter motor.
@85bbenjaminfan6 жыл бұрын
@@zaro33 I can verify this, since I now own a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid. When I start my car, there is no starter whine, which tells me that it is indeed the electric motor that starts the engine. Same when it shuts off at stoplights, which it does when I put my car in neutral and coast (the transmission is a 5 speed manual, I've noticed that putting it in neutral activates this feature.) So you are correct in your statement
