Honda Key FOB Immobilizer Hack, Broken Key

I was just cleaning the junk drawer and found my broken key FOB for my 2005 Honda Pilot. I didn't want to miss the opportunity to show how I used the old FOB to make the new FOB fully functional without paying for dealership programming. The only tool that is required is a small flat head screwdriver.

This was a good video. Especially how to get the Transponder chip out. Mine didnt come out that easily. It was glued to the bottom. However after you showed how to get the top lid off, I was able to snip around the RFID box and pull the chip out. My new case did not have a box, so I taped the old one in. Cheers!

Good video, my accord 2003 had the chip glued in but with some pliers and a small screwdriver i removed the plastic bit by bit till I got a good grip on it. Works great in the new key now!

This is a life saver of spending dime on the dealership and locksmiths i bought the keyfob online for almost 12bucks got it cut at the locksmith for 50bucks but i had already programmed it to work with the locking and unlocking of doors then the lockssmith told me he can programme it to start the car but for more added bucks i said i will come for that next time. I had to find a solution and its right here. Boom problem solved Yummy!!!

Worked for me after I moved that chip. My new case didn't actually have a spot for the chip, it's just sitting in there loose. Maybe I should glue it so it doesn't get lost, but whatever.

Probably just a drop of crazy glue would do the job, or just scotch tape. It can sense through the plastic so a small amount of adhesive should be fine

Very good video in the right detail. I am on a limited income and not able to spend $120+ for the locksmith to program. Few questions: Why the hell honda doesn’t looks st this key breaking problem and solve the issue. Also the transponder should be RED color so that when you are replacing the whole shit into the new one, at least you are able to notice that this stuff needs to be replaced too. Does Honda pays any attention to public reviews. This little key breaking and the tension you go thru could make you stop buying Honda’s in future for your family.

Where did you get your replacement key? I have my entire set and just need to transfer over the buttons, rfid chip, and physical key. It’s near impossible to find the ‘housing’ with a slot for the rfid chip. I don’t want to glue or tape it in.

@@DIYNorth I persuaded mine out but it does not work in the new key ..is it as simple as being turned wrong? Also my new key had new buttons but those new buttons don't work so I put my old buttons in it.. should I be using the new buttons now that I found the transponder?

@@amechellec90 you can make the new buttons work without. There are a few videos on line . you have to turn the key into different positions and push the buttons on the key fob to make them work. I've only ever used the old buttons though. The immobilizer chip could be in the wrong way. If it worked in the old key it should still work in the new key.

Did you get the Key FOB direct from Honda? Does your vehicle have anti theft? If your car doesn't take advantage of the immobilizer system then it might not need that chip inside the key FOB.

I'm not sure then, I've never tried that. You might still be able to add the chip to the new FOB. The car just needs to sense that it is there. I'd try to rig something up to secure it in the FOB, but I dont really have a suggestion as to what anyone else should do, like I said I've never been in that situation

The later ones don’t have a removable immobilizer chip. Honda did this on purpose
