Great video with a lot of tips. The disassembly and re-assembly is just what I needed. Due to slow delivery times I passed on the acid. I used carb cleaner and an ultrasonic parts cleaner with 1 part Simple Green Pro HD : 3 parts water. I heated the ultrasonic cleaner to 100 degrees F and ran it for 15 minutes. I flipped the parts and I ran the machine for another 15 minutes. The mower now starts and runs like new. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the assist! Had this mower that had been sitting for quite some time and wouldn't start - changed the gas, changed the oil, changed the spark plug, no luck. Was dreading messing with the carburetor until I watched your video and was able to easily get it off to clean. Sure enough, it was completely gunked up. Got it back on and it fired right up no issues and seems to run even better than before! Thanks so much.

This video is perfect! I tried all the tricks to clean the carb but nothing was working. The mower turned over with carb cleaner, but wouldn't stay on no matter what I tried. Using the acid to clean the carb worked like a charm. One pull and BOOM it was running. Can't thank you enough!

Thanks so much for this video. It was a great help. I was given a Honda mower that had sat unused for over 6 years and it wouldn't start. It was absolutely filthy, covered in dirt and dust and it sat with gas in it all of that time. I gave it a wash and was surprised to see just how great it looked afterward - practically new. I had another mower (an old Murray with a Briggs engine on it) but it has been extremely unreliable, due to the cheap construction of the carburetor and related parts - lots of plastic and rubber, and I had to mess with it almost every week. It finally pushed me past my limit and I decided to see if I could get that Honda running. The acid you used wasn't going to be available for over a week and I needed to get this thing going, so decided to give it a try with just some spray brake cleaner that I had. I took it all apart, sprayed everything down, cleaned and re-gapped the spark plug, flushed out the gas tank and cleaned the little fuel filter inside the gas line, put it back together and then changed the oil (old oil was pitch black - it may have never been changed). No parts were changed simply because I didn't have time to wait for them to arrive. Anyway, I pulled the starter cord and it fired up on the first pull! It is running great! I've ordered an air filter that should be here today and am now looking forward to years of trouble-free mowing with this thing. Thanks again for the great video!!

This was incredibly informative, thank you! I've had my mower for many years and this is the first year it's started to give me problems-- amazing considering the abuse i put it through! I changed the spark plug and brake cable because both seemed in bad condition and that got it starting again but now it won't stay running. I'm obsessed with never having anyone else work on my stuff if i can help it and this is my first time repairing a mower but your instructions have given me confidence!

That's not a very good idea. Never mix hydrochloric acid and aluminum or brass bc the gas it makes is acidic and it eats your carb. If you don't care about jets or any of that then it's ok but if it's a nice carb it's not worth it. This is the same guy who sounds like he put rooto or muriatic acid in his carb and found out how non ferrus metals react to strong acid lol. Use wd40 then carb cleaner and a plastic brush. Wd40 isn't hard on brass, stainless, chrome, or aluminum. Not knocking this guy but that's bad advise. That's for jewelry not carbs. Ultrasonic cleaners work best.

Almost same Honda but mine has wingnuts on top to take filter cover off n it seems I've got 2 of those crooked metal links next to spring. It runs when I shoot carb cleaner in it. I pulled carb off but I can't get the flat blade to remove that jet . It wants to strip or round. Fits good n I soaked it but it will not come out. I've taken everything else off n out n cleaned with a bread tie wire n it's really clean. But it's not getting gas. #2 SCREAW DRIVER simply wont cone out. Everything else clean. It's not getting gas. Even when I spray n start it it cuts off obviously, but bowl is empty. Ideas??

You know, I'm a 60 year old woman. I've lived paycheck to paycheck almost all of my adult life. I'm not complaining, I love my life, I'm just stating a fact. So, in June of 2021, I was finally financially able to by myself something brand new and could have the warranty that came with whatever that something was going to be in case something went wrong. So, after alot of thought and research of different things I could afford, I chose to get a lawnmower. So again, after more research and talking to people, I settled on the Honda lawnmower featured in this video. Everyone said because it's a Honda, it would last 30 or 40 years before I would have a problem. Well, that turned out to be a fucking joke. It has been nothing but a fucking nightmare since the day I bought it. It totally destroyed any joy I could have got out of purchasing something new for myself for the first time. Like I said, I purchased my first one in June 2021. Yes, I said my first one. Got that one home, put the oil in it , then started it up and began mowing. I didn't make four passes in my yard before I noticed all the oil in that reservoir in the body of it below the motor. What the fuck? So, now I'm not happy but can understand that sometimes there could be a lemon on the shelf. So, I took it back in exchange for my second one. Again, took it out of the box, put in the oil, started it up and the idle was surging. So, now I more than upset, I'm mad. I bought them at Home Depot. So, again, I took this one back to exchange it for a third one. When I exchanged the first one, they rung it up on the cash register. This time, exchanging the second one, they just called it an even exchange and let me just walk out without ringing it up. I also purchased a warranty from Home Depot for an extra $75. It being the first time making a purchase of a substantial item brand new, I was completely unaware I needed to make a call to activate that extra warranty when I got home and not one salesperson explained that point to me in three different visits. So, I got the third one home and went thru the process of getting it to the point of starting it up for the first time. Wouldn't you know it! Again, the idle surged. Now, I'm mad as fuck. So pissed off, I couldn't even talk to the customer service people at Honda without cussing them out and being hung up on. That went on for six months, I was so fucking mad. When I finally got to make a claim with them, without any kind of conversation with anyone in Claims, they denied the warranty. Over time, they would do that another five times. One of their denials was because they had no record of the mower being sold. According to their records, it's still on Home Depot's shelf. Even though they have a date the warranty will run out because I sent in the registration card that came with it with a purchase date on it. That's where that even exchange comes into play. It is now May 2024 and I haven't got a dozen uses out of my mower. It sat at the dealer for nearly a year. Honda blames it on bad gas so they won't stand behind their shitty choice of a carburetor or their work. Bad gas my ass. I used the same gas in the mower I had to borrow and had no problem. I even took my complaint to the very top of the corporate offices and still got denied any repairs. I am so fucking mad I don't know what to do about it any more. Honda is going to make me eat the $500 I spent with them. Home Depot, too, with that warranty. They won't honor it because I didn't make that phone call even though I still have all my receipts to prove I purchased the warranty. I'm to the point now where all I can say is fuck all of them. So, I brought it back from the dealer and a friend of mine got it to work right last week and for the first time, I got to mow my lawn with my new mower without cussing and screaming how I got fucked by Honda. Well, went to use it yesterday and can you just guess what happened? The fucking thing won't start. Carburator. Again. My friend said it got clogged because I got alot of dirt in it. What the fuck? I am mowing the same yard I mow when I borrow someone else's mower and their carbs don't get clogged. So, to me, that's out for a reason. If it is the reason then I'm back to hating Honda for putting a substandard carburator on their product. I was just online at the Better Business Bureau and guess what. They have a D- grade with them in the Power Equipment Division for a lack of response to lawnmower complaints and the cocksuckers stopped making lawnmowers all together!!! I'm fit to be tied and at my wits end. They have totally destroyed my first purchase of something good for myself. In all this time, I haven't used my mower a dozen times yet. I noticed my neighbor's Honda mower surges, the two that were donated to me by friends to use until I get my new on running right both surge. I had to get rid of them because they pissed me off to now end about Honda and I would be mad as fuck after using them. I used to have the best yard in my area. It was beautiful and well manicured all the time. Up until June 2021. Now, my gardens are almost all gone and my yard is more weeds than grass. All because I made the huge mistake of buying a Honda Mower. N
@smallengineguys

I'm sorry. That's how upset I am about my mower. I'm not trying to blame you or take it out on you. I'm so frustrated my blood pressure goes sky high when I just mention that mower. It has been nothing but a horrible nightmare and huge problem for nearly three years now. I am truly hoping your video will help me so I can enjoy working in my yard again. I've come to accept the fact I will most likely have to go thru this process every time I want to use it. But if it makes it run good enough to get the job done it will be enough to make me happy. Plus, I will be able to learn something new for myself. I think it will finally become a win win situation for me. Here's to getting some good luck out of this. Sitting down to watch your video and learn some of your knowledge now. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Without someone in the world like you that us willing to share what you know, I would definitely be losing out on my investment 100%. I want to thank you and let you know you are greatly appreciated.
