I bought my 2018 NC750X in September of last year. Best decision I ever made! I came off a Kawasaki Concours (GTR 1400) and I don’t regret that decision at all! I’ve fallen in love with this little bike, it’s not going to set your hair on fire like my Kawasaki did, but for an old guy like me (54) that just wants to tour with some light trail riding, this is the only bike for me.

I purchased the 2019 version with the DCT gearbox in February in beautiful metalic blue and I love the bike. I like that the user manual explains everything you need to know for bike maintenance, unlike other brands who ask you to go to the dealer. It even rates the difficulty of the task, for the people who might not be confortable doing certain things. My fuel economy is not good as yours, but mainly because I drive on the city heavy traffic on the daily commute. On the road, I get easily under 3 liters on D mode. The DCT gearbox is jerky at low speeds on D mode, specially the shifts between 1-2 gear or 2-3 gear. The problem is that on D mode, at 30km/h (common city speed) the bike is already on 3th gear. And 5th gear at 50km/h. So it shifts A LOT between 2 and 4 when you are driving though areas heavy on traffic lights. Changing it on S mode fixes the problem (the dealer also advised me to use S on the city), even if it worsens fuel economy. Having it on manual with the paddles is the best for the city, as you get the best of both worlds. On the road it's another story. On mountain twisty roads the DCT is such a charm. Upshifts and downshifts are so quick, it's a joy to play with. And very safe: the system prevents you from doing a downshift which would block the rear wheel and make you crash. "I bought my bike to ride, not as a status symbol". My city (Barcelona) is full of middle managers on suits riding humongous BMWs 1200R GS, who usually look to my NC and smirk. I smirk back to them, knowing that in my purchase decision my brains weighted more than my ego and that I have something reliable and cheap to maintain.

@@AfricaTwin-Stuff And BMW's cost too much to repair after my K75S I was done with BMW for good except to tow my friends 2003 K1200 LT to the BMW Dealer for a new clutch. $170 diagnostic fee. I said replace the rear main while the clutch was out (this should have been recommended by the dealer) total was $4,300 with tax. That's on top of spending $3000 on the same bike earlier in the year for things such as brake lines, brake pads, a tire etc. So far that is $7,300 in repairs in less than one year for a bike with 36,000 miles + $4,600 that he paid for the bike = $12,000 in one year for a 18 year old bike. My 2012 NC700X has needed nothing except regular maintenance and it has 38,000 miles.

My first bike ever was a NC700S and even now that I'm on a Tiger 900 I don't regret getting one. They're good bikes and the comments about it being a scooter can be easily ignored. Also the sound of the bike while being very silent is very refined and just awesome. Only the brakes could have been better on the 700 particulary when going downhill in a sporty fashion and quick changing corners at higher speeds aren't all that easy with it.

I went through probably all your videos regarding your NC and then also that of a guy named Cager on 2 wheels as he also had one. So using them as a comparison it helped me with my decision to buy a new 2019 NC DCT. I use it for pure commute on tar roads. I put on just under 20 000km on it in 7months and the bike has been great. My previous bike was a KTM 390duke which I really loved but having an enormous amount of service and customer service issues and complaints with 3 different centers I have moved away from KTM. Yes the 390 has more pull away power than the NC but the riding comfort for my current commute the NC is much better. It is so important to buy a bike for your needs and not a bike your friends want you to buy. The DCT is such a blessing I can not say how amazing it is. I do 55km one way to work of which 20km is lane filtering riding of about 20-40kmh ave speed. Thus the DCT is really worth every cent extra. I'd probably ride this bike for 2 or so years as it would then be on ±100 000km. But thinking of it - it will be paid off and not costing me anything so selling it would be stupid. The NC is a great bike for highway commute as it is big and you sitting high so your presence is quite good when you fit a decent set of spot lights on which helps alot then filtering through traffic. I'm actually having my bike serviced at Honda purely for the warranty because of the issues I had with KTM. So if a problem occurs I want Honda to just get it sorted. But yes - next service is about 2 months away when its a big service doing valve clearances and it is expensive. I'll probably upgrade to the Africa Twin after this one but for now I love it.

My main gripe that many people share is the forward-leaning seat, but I fixed that with a Saddlemen kit. I've test driven the CB500X and same issue, in my opinion. Maybe one day Honda will provide more touring-friendly seats on such bikes. Otherwise the NC is the perfect adventure-tourer. I see how you arrived at it after your extensive biking history.

Great review, thank you, I've got a similar bike history to you - BMW GSs especially. Bought the NC in my seventies as I found my muscles had disappeared! I'm also tall and the cramped position was rectified by having 2" put in the seat by a local upholsterer. Long trips to the Continent were beginning to hurt the knees. This was rectified by a pair of Wunderlich foot pegs put on my Puig crash bars. The acceleration is a bit unexciting, but hey, it's saving the planet. Still miss my Bandit 1250S but i've got memories!

Watching your videos has helped me make up my mind to turn in my Honda ST1300 for a NC750X. I love my big bike and have toured all over the west coast but I'm getting older and I want to get off the tarmac to enjoy some fire roads and scenic trails, nothing crazy because I do most of my riding by myself. I like the fact that the NC has enough power to maintain freeway speeds as any off road areas are at least an hour drive on the freeway from the beach area I live at. I love the look of the Africa Twin but my years are limited as to how many more pick ups I have in this aging body to lift a 550lb bike. I heard one prophetic youtuber say, "It is better to buy the bike you need, than the bike you want." Thank you for the honest reviews and your sense of humor in all your videos.

Great bike indeed. It's my 5th season now with 22K on the clock. Extreme fuel economy (I agree on 3.3 as well), nice large boot space, quite reliable and problem free, useful dashboard, etc. I'm also tall (187) and I feel very comfy on it. The bad - the original chain got worn too quickly albeit the rigid maintenance. I bought a golden DID and for 10K it is still like a brand new. Battery (Yuasa) just failed in the middle of the road but that should be OK for a 5th season. Changing the air filter is a bit P.I.T.A. :-) I would love a little bit more power at certain moments.

That's a reviewer that has something to have his words in. By having the bike, not only for 3 years, but also actually having ridden the bike, and under various conditions. Lots of people who own bikes or reviews bike, they never really ride the bike for much more than a few hundred kilometers before they make a full review. I have personally been looking at this bike in past, when there were no 750 version. And I've started looking for a used one again, be it 700 or 750. I do a lot of kilometers which is purely daily transport, but I also like to go on solo-rides, group-rides or on holiday with my bike. I believe the NC could really be a great fit for me, especially with that great, extra built in storage. Because I hardly ever ride without atleast having my topbox on.

As a teenager I grew up riding dirt bikes back in the mid to late 70s, 2015 came and I bought a Honda NC700X DCT, great little bike had it for five years and then I traded it in for a 2020 NC750X DCT. W/ ABS, Love it, I went from 49 hp to 55 hp and there is a difference... DCT is the best invention Honda came out with , no more worrying about clutching and foot shifting, two less things I have to worry about.....

After much research I bought a new 2015 NC750XD as my first bike. Almost exclusively used it for commuting so not really a lot of km's under the belt yet, and I'm still a fairly green rider. I could not be happier with this wonderful machine. My only gripe was the original Dunlop Trailmax tyres that didn't get a lot of mileage. Got some Pirelli Scorpion's now on advice from my mechanic and they feel much better on the road.

Hi All, I’ve just bought an NC750S, it’s a couple of years old with 22k on it. It’s immaculate to look at. I love it. I’m coming from an in-line four that’s revvy and smooth to this 270° parallel twin…a little odd at first but mad torque on it. Any gear, except 6, and it wants to go. Think I’ll enjoy a few years of hassle free riding.

I have a NC750S with 17000km now, it is good, BUT: my chain needs readjustments approximately every 3000km, change from engine breaking to acceleration is very choppy, the gearbox sometimes springs out of gears or requires much stregth to change gears But fully agree on the good points!

Good one! I am slowly but steadily moving toward the DCT one of these. Had a 2013 V-Strom 650 from new for 5 years, but, like a fool, I swapped it for a new T-Mx 530 DX scooter a year ago, but I dislike the T-Max a lot. Swapped it as I get hand/wrist pain using a clutch lever and thought a scooter would be the answer. It seems I should have gone for one of these with a DCT. That's my next move once I find someone who wants an EXTREMELY low mileage T-Max. Thanks for the video. I look only for a bike that can carry me, my wife and a couple of days worth of luggage 500 kilos/day... but one that is fun enough for me to take out by myself, too.

Thanks for the highly-useful review. After selling my '11 Triumph Bonneville in 2017 due to increasing pain from arthritis in my knees and hands, I've just recently begun thinking about riding again. The taller NC750X would be easier on my knees, and with a DCT, my left fingers/right wrist should have less of a workout, as well. That the U.S. version for 2020 is all-black neutralizes my somewhat negative feelings about the appearance, too. 'Lockable trunk, screw-and-locknut valves - it's all good.

I currently own a cbr500r 2016 and I have no complaints at all with the power it delivers it is totally real life usable power but I've been thinking about trading it due to the sitting position posture of my passenger and this one has caught my attention primarily due to the fuel economy and these videos of yours push me more towards it :) Don't need a 150HP machine with a redline @ 13k rpms I prefer instant toque from down below so seems to be the next pick.

Very honest review. It's good to back your point of view with your bike history, I would say much the same about my bike but without such a vast history of riding to compare it to. All of what you said is how I feel about the 500 except occasionally I'm sure it would be good to have that little bit more low end grunt.
@AfricaTwin-Stuff
@AfricaTwin-Stuff 5 жыл бұрын
CaptainCranky - to be honest I feel very similar about Wendy’s 500X. Yes the extra grunt is great but comes with extra weight too - which can be an advantage on the highway but a burden on the gravel in comparison to the 500X.

That's the right idea. It's not about the bike but the ride. The NC takes a lot of crap but the fact remains that some of us just wanna ride. Others wanna look good riding 20km to the Cafe and back home. I ride a new Tracer 900 and I've previously owned a R1200GSA, Versys 1000, CBF600SA and a VT750ACE. Good review.
