nsr250 was my first proper bike. nothing ever came past it through the twisies. I remember my father in law laughing at the sound (clearly not a 2 stroke lover) and saying it'll never stay with his gsxr. hit some bends and didn't see him till I pulled over again. awesome video 👍

Exactly the same in every respect, mate...they were referred to as a 'grey import' down here in Oz (Melbourne, to be precise) & only the one seller (Marty Orchard, Top Gear Motorcycles in Seaford, VIC) down here was importing them, so he could pretty much name his price for Honda GP (& Doohan) obsessives like me...but to his credit, he was always very fair & honest with me...anyway, back to the 'bike, eh?! Yeah, while you either love or hate two-stroke engines (I'm obviously one of the former), it was always the clanging sound of the 'dry clutch' that confused non-enthusiasts, especially whenever I would pull up at the lights or a car park & people would see this spectacular-looking 'proddie racer' but all manner of clanging coming from somewhere within, or near the engine...& when I would inform them that it was a dry clutch, they would almost invariably then enquire why I didn't oil it to "fix that almighty din", to which I'd have to explain how a 'dry clutch' worked & that it was MEANT to sound like that!! Yeah, I always loved taking the NSR to the Black Spur (located near Healesville, which is about 60 km's north-east of Melbourne, it's about 30 km's long & is renowned for its beautifully twisty corners & high-quality bitumen - although some sections can be a tad damp at times, even during dry weather, thanks to the ferns & other greenery in the region) for the first time & it was at night...& despite the fact that the headlight upon the NSR250 SE wasn't exactly bright, even by the standards of the '90s, & that all of the other guys were on CBR900RR's & other similar bikes, I more than held my own upon the NSR...& once I visited the Black Spur during daytime & really got to learn the roads there, no amount of displacement was gonna help them vs the nimbleness of the NSR!! OK, my sincere apologies for the unintended verbosity of this post, my friend - but once I'd started on the Black Spur, I just knew that I'd keep on rambling away! Cheers & best wishes from the Mornington Peninsula, another motorcycling Mecca in Victoria, albeit the other side of Melbourne...& now I have a CBR1000RR 'Blade!! Take very good care out there, bud...Matt.

Haha, yeah I introduced one of my best mates at trade school (we were both undertaking panel-beating apprenticeships at the time) to motorbikes, when I arrived in the car park there upon my '92 NSR250 SE one day & he was instantly in love...mind you, because the NSR's were far more expensive back then (due to them being a 'grey import' from Japan, rather than imported by Honda Australia, unlike the RGV250), he obtained his L-plates soon afterward & then purchased an RGV...& as soon as he returned to his family home with the 'bike, his old man (a true old school Italian fella, & a great bloke, I might add) began to reminisce about his motorcycle-riding days in Italy when he was young, before insisting that he take the RGV for a ride...& what could my mate, Nick, do but let his Dad ride it, despite his misgivings about the idea?! Well, sure enough, he was gone for 10, then 15, then 30 minutes & by the time that he returned, Nick's Dad was riding the bike VERY slowly & bits of fairing were hanging from the bike - it was quite a mess & barely worthy of being ridden home by this stage! And of course, according to his Dad, it was some car driver's fault that he had crashed & "she never stopped" & he "never caught her number plate"...all absolute bullshit, he had clearly underestimated the abilities of the bike & overestimated his own riding capabilities & then ditched the thing, simple!! Anyway, it ended up being a write-off, simply due to the expense of replacement parts & just how much damage the 'old man' had inflicted upon the poor thing...but Nick had also realised by this stage that he, too wasn't good enough to ride a 2-stroke & he instead purchased a CBR250, which was far more to his liking & riding abilities...I have an '05 Repsol CBR1000RR 'Blade nowadays but damn, I still love & miss my '92 NSR250 SE so much at times, especially whenever I'm riding through twisty sections, such as the Black Spur, 60 km's north-east of Melbourne...just an amazing little 'bike, the NSR!! Cheers & best wishes from 'Down Under', mate...take good care out there & please remain 'upright' - within reason, of course, aka no less than 45 degrees or so...Matt.

I wrote off my VJ22 RGV250P and bought a black and silver one of these around 94, i had it for about a month and was really disappointed with it. I was expecting it would have the violent RGV powerband and it just didn’t. The power curve was way more linear on the MC21 and I was disappointed. I then traded it in on a brand new MC28 NSR250SP Repsol expecting a massive jump and again , was just disappointed ultimately but since it was so stunning I kept it for 3 years. Talking to a bunch of people everyone commented that that was always the difference between the Honda and the Suzuki, the power band. Both the Honda’s did have a noticeable availability of more torque at low revs , that much was obvious but neither were as fun as a RGV. Sadly i never got an HRC PGM card for the MC28 where i was told massively changed the power curve making it more like the RGV power delivery but Ill never know as the Honda distributor was not allowed to sell them for Rd registered bikes, im told, and i couldn’t find anywhere to sell me one out of Japan, keep in mind this was mid 90s so no internet like we know today to find anything globally was also told the HRC cards only worked with the HRC wiring loom which had no provisions for indicators and lights etc, still, Id loved to have tried the 70+bhp NSR fully unlocked though ..

Back in the day they was sometimes prone seizing so you would cover the clutch to pull the clutch lever in , I blew a couple up myself back in the day, but tbh I used to use mine all the time throughout the year so didn’t have too many problems, you just have to look after them and ride them a little different to a 4 stroke engine

What makes you say you've gotta cover the clutch because it's a 2 stroke? Btw there's some hot rz350 action on my channel if you like 2 strokes.

Man over 70 bikes that sounds like an awesome collection … 250’s are a little lively and the way you ride them they are a little prone to the odd crash , I know 😂😂 but like the RS125 .. you end up riding them a little hard of the road so mistakes can happen mate unfortunately

How did it compare to the CBR250RR of the same year?
@ProjectMoto Жыл бұрын
There’s not much that’s the same really, the NSR is a 2 stroke engine so about 55bhp / 135kgs dry weight I guess, the CBR 250 is a 4 stroke engine, so about 24bhp and they were about 150kgs dry weight from what I remember , so a big difference in performance… for the NSR 250cc 2stroke to be similar in speed it would need to go up against the CBR 400 or other 400’s of the time ZXR,VFR,GSXR etc…

This is the Subaru Impreza vs the Misti Lancer, the Subaru (RGV) is the more reliable one, but the Lancer (NSR) is the much better one
