Thanks Mark and Jack for another amazing and amusing review! I still have my 2006 Honda Odyssey EXL and it’s been nothing but reliable for me and my family. The only issue I had over the years was the atrocious paint problem that was peeling over the roofline after 12 years of ownership which I had to paint and pay out of pocket. The middle seats are so backbreakingly heavy to remove as with 3rd row folding into and lifting back into place. The V6 and tranny are still going strong at 160K miles. I know people are still going to gripe about why Honda hasn’t levitated to an AWD system and it’s probably due to a trade off in poor gas mileage which is not what Honda is known for and having that system would be a relief for those who live in harsh conditions. I own 3 other Honda’s (14 Accord EXL V6, 08 EXL CRV and my 20 Type R) and my minivan trumps them all in overall comfort and long mileage trips. This would have been nice to own 11 years ago but kids are all grown up and will be moving onto college soon. Nothing beats the comfort of the odyssey because it’s chassis is built and drives like an accord.

My 2006 LX has 267K miles and is still going strong (though trans has felt like it's going to let go ever since 190K miles, but it hasn't). I don't have any paint problems even though I live in a rainy climate and rarely wash the thing. And I've taken it through Colorado in snow storms and never had a problem--4wd is vastly overrated for street driving, so long as you have good tires. In fact I'd easily take a FWD with dedicated snow tires over an AWD with all-seasons any day for winter driving. My 4 kids (and wife) have all gone now, but that van holds a lot of good memories.

But I had such strong, good memories of all the road trips we went on that I took out the 3rd row "couch seat" (it was a conversion van) and kept it in the garage for a while as a memento. Finally got rid of even that when I moved out of the house we were in. I guess I'm just sentimental.

Pleasant to drive, has more than enough horsepower, comfortable, handles surprisingly well for what it is. The “Magic Seats” in the center row are amazing. No, the center row seats don’t fold away but... when you remove the center piece the two captains chairs can be adjusted forward, backward, and side to side; a feature that’s probably hard to fully appreciate if you don’t have kids. Also, because the seats don’t fold into the floor Honda put the spare tire there, meaning you get more storage space in the rear hatch area and a big 60 lb hunk of weight low and centered in the vehicle instead of mounted at an extreme end of the car.

@michaelw6277 Жыл бұрын
@@realnapster1522 I can’t comment on that because I haven’t driven either the LS or S-Class, but among the cars I’ve driven and owned over the decades this Honda is a lot nicer to drive than a minivan aught to be. I live in a very hilly, borderline mountainous area and it’s just pleasant to drive on everything from flat freeways to curvy backroads. Of course it’s not a viscerally engaging sports car but I don’t feel like I’m being penalized for being in such a large and heavy vehicle. Driven at about 7/10s on relatively low grip touring tires just feels nice. If I want to drive like my hair is on fire I’ll hop into my modified GTI, but for hauling the family around without causing whiplash this van is amazing.

We had a look at the Odyssey Elite and everything said about the shabbiness of the piano black trim is true. It is a good overall package but the front seats were too shallow for us. We are both tall and the bottom cushion cut us in the hamstrings. I can't imagine Jack riding in that for several hours. It's not just Honda, it's pretty much all the manufacturers. Seats are made for Mike-size people, not Jack-sized people.

As a 2018 touring owner after 80k km on the road this is the only Actual Review that Odyssey deserves. The only thing I'd do differently is to down shift two more gears before you enter that tight right turn. And regarding the 'soft' your talking about, shift the weight before you enter the corner is doable and predictable. I tend to outrun many sport cars with this van at my favorite back road, the acceleration is linear and typical NA character. the 10 speed box and that ivtec plus the relatively low center of gravity (vs SUVs) is totally different level against most if not all other 7+ passenger vehicles. As a midage dad I know not much about driving excitement except I keep a manual 991.2 GTS and a 63s AMG in the garage. This is the Van deserves to be happy neighbors with those other toys. I wish Honda would end the generation with a type S :-P

So, just bought a 2017 Touring. Had been set on a Sienna but got tired of waiting to even see any in person, let alone buy one. I'm also a current 2012 Prius V owner. So, I was set on buying another hybrid. Gotta be honest, I love the Odyssey and its V6. The effortless and quiet power is much appreciated. And it really has no business being this fast lol. Coming from a Prius it's a rocket. Lolz. Also, I couldn't care less about the seat removals versus the Pacifica. I have no intention of ever hauling anything where I'd need to remove the seats. If there's any complaints, it's just that I didn't get an elite for the ventilated seats. I'm also not impressed with the audio system even though it has a subwoofer. But, I'll probably swap out components myself. Oh, and it needs tint on the front windows. I live in the south and already after the first day of owning I can't stand it. Original purchase was made in Montgomery, Alabama. Not sure how they lasted with no tint up front. Probably a nice windshield strip too. 👍

I was an early adopter of minivans in 1994. Kids. Over the wife's objections around the "soccer mom" image. Did not care. I am the one who loads the car for the road trips. More and much more usable space, better mileage, better handling, and the Odyssey has always had good power.

I had the 2019 Odyssey Elite. Solid mini van. Drove well and felt safe. There were nagging things though: Center entertainment sometimes froze. I had to take it in only to have the technician take off one of the battery terminals for a few minutes and then put it back on. I had to take it back a few more times for the same problem. It got to the point where I kept a 10 mm wrench in my glove box to take the battery terminal off myself. By the way, my battery died after a few days of taking delivery. Called road side service and they were good. it’s not easy to jump the minivan because the positive battery terminal is blocked by the air intake. So, the road side service guy spent some time removing the air intake to get to the positive battery terminal. This incident only happened once though.

after owning my 2018 Elite for 3 years, I can say buying this Honda is my biggest mistake; it handle well but the rest of my car was just so bad that it drive me nuts daily. 1. The Nav system always randomly frozen and the only way to fix it is by disconnect the battery, and the genius that design the car use different socket for the negative & positive side... 2. They put the auto brake hold button right next to the hand brake one, and both push in motion turn it on, and since the auto hold will disconnect every time you park your car, so you have to reach out to it every time, which will lock up your car with E stop if get the button wrong 3. My engine auto stop never work, always display not available not matter what time in the day or the weather even the car has warmed up, took it to the dealership fixed for few weeks and then failed again 4. The only USB port is inside the center console, and they don't leave a pass thru for cable to run out (I think they fixed it in the newer model) 5. I almost never saw 10th gear until you reach above 80... useless in daily drive 6. 2nd row magic slide yeah super cool for first few weeks, I want to know how many people really using it daily, for 3rd row access you still has to push forward unless you are small kid, and the rail raise up so high that you can't push anything thru the floor\ 7. Wheel arch blocking 2nd row seat recline unless slide inward, so there is almost no recline if have the middle seat installed 8. Both sliding door constantly jamming (fixed twice already) 9. Rear entertainment screen rattles like crazy 10. 3rd row floor also not flat after folding down the seats, can't slide cargo... 11. The A/C sync control will turn on the rear A/C every time you press it even the Rear is set to Off... 12. The vacuum is really only good for clean up Goldfish for kids, very weak, and it need to be longer for the front row And this was actually my second car, my first one was so bad that the dealership has to take it back and find me this one (entertainment system failed completely unable to fix it, an known issue...) I spent my first 2 month driving loaners and rental cars, and have to travel 30 miles to the dealership... So my first and last Honda... oh honorable mention, 8 recalls in first 2 years...

Speaking as a middle-aged dad, I weirdly love my Odyssey as much or more than any of the performance-oriented cars I have owned (including a 6MT/Sport package E90 330i and an E46 M3). It replaced an Acura MDX, which I hated, and I greatly prefer the Odyssey drivetrain to the Lexus GS F-Sport that I drive daily.

Funny--I hated my 2020 MDX too, mostly because I'm tall and always felt cramped in it, but also because it was twitchy, rode harshly and was no faster than my Odyssey (in fact, it was worse in every way than my Odyssey except "looks"). Got rid of it after only 1,700 miles.

@markmiller32793 жыл бұрын
@@georgiaguardian4696 The battery replacement business is mythology. Hybrid batteries routinely last the life of the vehicle, unless you expect to get 200k miles or more from it. Toyota overengineers their hybrid batteries so they aren't working that hard.

Sienna never felt as classy/refined as the Odyssey to me, and the 3rd row was not competitive. I never understood Toyota on this--few buy a minivan unless they need a lot of room in the third row, where Honda has a huge advantage. And with their move to Hybrid, Toyota lost their advantage on maintenance costs over the Odyssey.
