In this video I have a look at a customers Honda Passport with the big 3.2 that has the check engine light on with a P0502 active in it. This indicates that the PCM is not seeing any speed signal however the speedometer works just fine. Let's see what the problem is.
-Enjoy!

From my experience (ontario Canada), most shops aren't out to screw customers intentionally... they are just so busy everyday that they don't take the time to verify anything. Things get busy, so they try to hire someone new and noone has the time to babysit the new guy who may mangle up a few cars before he learns in his own time.
@BobSakamoto

I'd add a qualifier to that. I was in the business many years, and yes there were quite a few predatory shops. But on today's vehicles there are a whole bunch of shops without the investment in tools along with minimally trained techs. Either way, the customer loses.

If a shop can take a vehicle on 2 hours notice or less they are going to get a lot of work. That they can do that says a lot about the work they do. Most of the general public doesn't understand this they just want to take it to the place that says they can work on it the soonest. To the more experienced customer it's more like going to the restaurant that has a wait every night of the week. You know know it's going to be better than the one that's half empty on a Saturday night.

Even the dealers have reduced themselves to "parts swappers" these days. Eric recently did a truck with multiple unconnected electrical faults. I was screaming at the laptop.. "Its a ground fault!". Sure enough after multiple thousands of $$ in parts replaced it was a simple ground strap!.. Incredible, who would have thought?.. Duh!

typical, not fixed via short repair list(thrice broken) write off and new replacement(repeat 999 times a year or month!). considered flawed lemons or designed in flaws via foreign influences. sadly, it's ALL that way and has been for years. Imbeciles at the helm for far too long.

Way back, when I first started watching your channel, I really only wanted to see you turn wrenches. I wasn't into the electrical diag stuff. But I watched them anyway even if just for the entertainment value. But you know... It didn't take long before I realized, based on your vids, how valuable electrical diags could be (and how much money I could save over just unloading the parts cannon). So I kept watching you and learning from you. Now, I have completed a beginner's course in automotive electrical diag and am working on intermediate. The process I am learning is exactly like you do it. This was a fun video because I knew exactly what you were doing and how you were eliminating all of the known goods until you found the culprit. Thanks Eric O. Your vids are entertaining, educational, and **inspiring**. Cheers! Oh, one more thing: I still quite enjoy the vids where you turn wrenches! 🙂

I like to think I am up on technology, but my grandad would be all over this. His father drove mule wagons, and he translated that into a freakishly good front-end business. He did work for Holman Moody, and I can see him saying that he has no clue what the blue/yellow wire does for steering angle, but we need to get the lasers to make sure front end is correct. In the end, I know he would find what was needed to fix the car and take no credit. Nice to see someone working through the steps.
