Thanks to your video, I cancel my appointment with the dealer who was going to charge me $1000 for repair. I quickly check the relay and sure enough, it had a raddle noise just like you mentioned. Instead of taking my Honda Ridgeline to the dealer for the expensive repair, I went and picked up a new relay for $26 bucks. Thanks again! John

Fixed my 2007 Ridgeline with this information. The local Autonation Honda dealer wanted $180 just to diagnose the AC problem. Thanks so much for the great video! $6.99 at Discount Auto Parts and I have cold AC.

Thanks so much for the diagnosis and tutoring, it would have been nice to see a test of the new relay to show folks that the resistance on the contacts would instantly drop to ZERO ohms when you power up the control side, this is an issue on youtube is not many people will show what a good part tests like. Also for testing purposes, there is probably another same part relay in there somewhere that can be temporarily moved over to this position to prove a bad relay if the clutch operates by swapping relays. Thanks again.

Amazing! Condenser not engaged, no signs of visual leakage, nothing shaking around in the relay, swapped out the fan relay with the AC relay, and Bingo, Condenser engages when AC turned out, cold as ICE! $6.69 for a new relay! THANKS!

My 2007 crv suddenly had no cold air, I tried turning a/c on and off several times , the cold air came back out, I guess it must be a relay problem. Thanks for the video, and your elucidation is systematic and educational.

I got my relays from a wrecking yard today and fixed my Honda Civic. don't worry about the serial number on the relay just make sure its the same voltage and ohm rating. I searched many cars and then realized they have different numbers on the relay. Also the fuse panel on this Pilot looks identical to the one on my civic so civic relays should work but I may be wrong.

Thank you this was very helpful. Interestingly my did not have any broken parts inside (did not make noise when shook) and when I put 12 volts 1 amp to it, the solenoid closed (I could hear it click). But the circuit did not close as checked by the multi-meter. So it was still bad. BTW I bought a new one at O'Reilly Auto Parts $7.99.

So what if the clutch stays on or spins even when the ac in car is turned off? I heard 2 bursts of air and so i opened the hood and could find it and later did some research and my conclusions is that sound is the release valve as it runs even if the ac is turned off

AC clutch is not engaging and AC Condenser Fan is not turning at all when I switch AC on in my Civic. I tested the AC clutch relay replacing the Horn relay with AC clutch relay abecause they are of the same type, and the Horn worked well, also on the other side the AC clutch didn't turn on. What could be the problem? I have not noticed any AC oil leak and I can't test the AC pressure because I dond't have a multimeter, but I think everything should be fine because in Autumn everything worked fine and when Ive tried ti use my AC in spring it just didnt turn on. What would you recommend me? I've read that the other problem could be the termal overload protector that won't let the ac and fan to turn on. Does it also make sense to test the AC fan relay? Thank you very much for your nice video! It was very informative, detailed and practical!

I just replaced the condenser fan on A Honda Element because when I turned it just a little bit it would blow the fuse, But that was while the A/c was on. I guess the fan had a short in it. Un plug the condenser fan and try to see if it works.
@cocojambo287 жыл бұрын
Tim Meadows, could you help me with the location of the plug and how to access it? I am not sure if it is it. I have a Honda civic hatchback 2.0i sport 2004. I can see a plug that is comming from the condenser fan, located on the passenger side of the car, under the metallic border that is hard to access with the hand. I should take something out, but I'm not really sure where to start in order not to destroy the car :))

Is it safe to short the normally open contact on the relay box to see if the clutch or compressor is working?
@DIYTinker9 жыл бұрын
Zarnel Mejia not really. the pressure switch tells the computer if you have correct Freon level. If you dont, then the relay doesnt close to protect your compressor. If you dont have correct freon level, then running the compressor will damage it.

Took it out, put it back in and Voila! the AC started working! Can anyone explain why simply removing the relay and plugging it back in would fix the problem?

This is a great video. However, if you don't have a meter, try this: On my 2005 Odyssey, there are 3 of these relays. One for the A/C clutch, and two for the fan speeds. An easier way to confirm the relay is good or bad is to swap one of the other two for the A/C clutch. If it works, you have a bad relay. Just go to a local auto parts store and for $7 or more, get a new one.

I also have a 2009 Honda Pilot. The AC went out about a month ago. I decided not to replace it just yet. Then, last week my car did not start. I went to have the battery checked and it was deemed good (it's a year old). Just a year ago, I went through the same issue and my Honda dealership replaced a relay. Voila, all was back to normal. Remembering this I took it back to my honda dealership to see if they could trouble shoot and see if it was the same relay that needed replacing. They just told me that it is the AC assembly that needs to be replaced because replacing the relay alone will not fix the problem and it (the ac relay) will continue to drain the battery. I've never heard of such a thing, that basically if the AC does not work, the car will not work. Your thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated if you have a moment. Thanks so much.

Wow. Ive just brought a Honda CRV 2008. Knew the ac wasnt working but ive been fiddling around with it. I already found the relay was rattling and have ordered a couple of replacements off ebay before I saw your vid but they havent come yet. Big coincidence finding your vid and you having a rattling relay too. Ive already tested for pressure in the system with a gauge and it seems fine. Not found where the pressure switch is yet...Was the relay REALLY all that was the matter with your system.? Cant wait for my replacement relays to come to see if it works cos a compressor change is just too expensive on a 10 year old car.
