I followed this step by step and it was accurate. Easy to replace my starter myself utilizing this video! Thanks for sharing it!

Thank you so much! I would not have tried it without watching this first. The dealer didn't seem like they wanted to do the work, and I saved $400.

Great video. Worst part on my 14 year old machine was getting the air box out. Watched the video several times to make sure I wasn't missing something. Connections into carb and snorkel just didn't want to release. Now just waiting for new starter to arrive.

I was quoted $325 at the dealership to do this. Done it myself for under $50. Thanks for the video guide!

Thanks for the video. It gave me the confidence to do it myself. My '12 Rancher wouldn't start. I replaced the battery and the starter solenoid first. I replaced the original starter using your video. I bought a $50 aftermarket starter on Amazon. I put it in and it fired right up. I'd like to get my original one rebuilt. Any idea where I get could it rebuilt?

What is that white part you took off the top ? I had a small washer / spacer left over and can't figure out where it came from if u have any ideas I'm all ears haha thanks
@brn2ride7883 жыл бұрын
That white part is just a little cover over the throttle body and it’s a mount for the ignition coil. Your little spacer washer might have come from that little 8mm bolt that mounts the white thing to the air box.

Just curious what was happening before you replaced the starter? All mine does is make one click sound from the solenoid. I replaced that and the battery and the regulator and all I get is the same click. I'm thinking it's the starter now. I'm already like $150 into this.
@brn2ride7882 жыл бұрын
What you need to do is get a test light and see if there’s power on the wire at the starter when you are pushing the start button, if there’s power getting to the starter and your engine is not turning over that means your starter or just your starter brushes are bad, so you’ll need to repair or replace your starter.

@@brn2ride788 thanks for the quick reply. I just finally got the starter out and the magnets inside are basically dust right now. So I'm guessing it was definitely the starter. Thanks for the video you made. Spot on for removal. 👍👍👍

Fold the throttle wide open and as it’s turning over slowly start letting off the throttle, this is a good cold weather trick for the Rancher 420.

Watched because mine was really stuck in there and wanted to see if I was missing something... You showed everything up to that point in detail and then skip the actual removal!! Good video otherwise.

Same. Ended up just putting a large flat head between starter and motor and popping it free
