Honda RS125R- The Most Powerful 125cc racer?

PetrolRevolt samples a wonderfully prepared Honda RS125R
Danny goes back to where it all began, a racing 125cc 2stroke.
At approximately 600BHP per tonne, this Honda RS125R racing bike is an incredible spectacle to watch and requires much riding skill and fitness to get the best out of it.
Made from 1980, weighing in at approximately 70kg and depending on spec, the RS punches out 45BHP, peaking at around 60BHP with top spec parts
The Honda RS125R was a serious race bike available over the counter with a starting price of £8,500. But to get the RS to a decent race winning spec, add a further £15k for top end engine kit, rad, carbs and electronics.
Danny soon gets back in to the swing where he left off, and where Danny left off 125cc racing is worthy of a special mention! Danny won pole in the last ever 125cc 2 stroke race in 2011 before the transition to Moto 3 in 2012.
125cc 2 stroke racing was the making of many of the best riders. The Honda RS125R has won nine World Championship titles piloted by Loris Capirossi, Dirk Raudies, Haruchika Aoki, Emilio Alzamora, Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso and Thomas Lüthi, while Honda was crowned Constructors' World Champion eleven times.

Brings back so many memories ! The 125s and 250s were always really loud at the GPs compared with the 500s, mainly because they were spinning so hard, so often - the noise, the smell !! Great stuff.

little did i know 500 use big bang firing order so the sound is not as loud compared to 125 and 250 cc and they also have higher RPM and screamer in 250

It’s good to see the last 125 pole sitter back on a 125.still have mine and still ride it on a few classic bike trackdays . It’s great to ride a bike with mechanical grip instead of electric controlled grip. Be good to see a bit more under the fairing in the video for those who don’t own one

My 1978 MT125R was my favorite race bike. Original crankshaft from 1978 to 1999! Best quality bang for yer buck. 👍🏁🇺🇲

Those are so light and to get that speed from a 125 , wow sounds wicked too,you would think a tiny rider like Pedrosa to exploit that as those motors were tiny to pull a medium sized man .Dunlop hit over 130 on those.

I was 18/19 stone when I had my Aprillia RS125 96 model. Still showed 110mph on the clock…..didn’t feel to big for it, but then again I’d just come from an AR50

60hp from an NX4? No, that’s never happened. Most powerful (per litre) 2t to date is Aprilia RSA 125 and that made 55hp

Almost right, according to Jan Thiel himself.... 54HP to the output shaft and 58HP to the crankshaft, and the fastest one was the 2007 version.

You are correct sorry I couldn’t remember the exact HP of my 2008 / 2009 bikes but these Aprilia 125cc are amazing motorcycle and I’m so happy I got to spend some years racing them

@@cristianr3712 the rs125 nx4 makes 45 hp at the wheel. The Aprilia was indeed the fastest in the class. The OP has clearly mistaken it for the 4 strokes moto3 class

@@cristianr3712 exactly my thoughts mate. I still own and ride a lot of 2 strokes. Used to race them back in the 90s and still own a lot of my race bikes from back in the days.

@@mohba01 Very lucky, enjoy them, not everyone has that pleasure, if you can upload videos riding them... That would be great, specially getting them to high rpms where they sound the best, maybe even set up races between them since you have several. Would be greatly appreciated and YT might pay for it.
