I agree! 100% you nailed it! I have a Can-Am and I love it. I have a house in eastern Kentucky, where I’m originally from, and that is where the Can-Am is, and where it is ridden at, and kept. I have a house here is south Alaska, and all i have here is Honda’s. Here we work them, hunt from them, and explore and trail ride. Up here, dependability is a real big factor in why we choose Honda ATVs, because your life could very well depend on that! We take our ATVs places up here that you are 500 miles from anywhere, and if your a five day ride, about 500 miles from home, you depend on that ATV to get you home! You don’t have cell service, you are a five day ride from anywhere you get service, and if your ATV fails you, it turns into a three week hike home, you don’t have food, you start to get weak, and cold then the predators start moving in on you, and then two weeks later your family members are looking for you, and step in bear shit, totally unaware that they have your only remains stuck to the bottom of their shoes, when they find your broken Can-Am or Polaris sitting in the woods. It all depends on where you live, and what kind of riding you do, that determines what is best suited for you, and your needs.

To sum it all up, you couldn’t have said it better or more honest. It all comes down to how you take care of your machine. I was torn between the kodiak 700 the Honda Foreman 520 and the outlander 570, I bought my can am 570 mossy oak edition last week it’s not even broke in yet.. 2022 model, the steering is awesome to me power seems to be there for sure. I will never mud ride mine, it’s meant for dirt roads and trails. I want to go through nasty mud gonna break out my Yamaha big bear 350. Now I will say of all the 4 wheelers I’ve ever owned the can am is a little on the noisy side. Takes some getting used to. Very pleased with your unbiased opinion. You did awesome.
@RedXCross12 жыл бұрын
I prefer Can Am 450 max, the reason" I do not mud", I HUNT and it is a very resourceful powerful machine that handles anything I throw at it. Power steering is better than Honda and it has a reverse that's better imo. I have owned Polaris, Honda and now Can Am and it is a 2021.
@MrKmd273 жыл бұрын
Nice analysis of both ATV's. Very fair assessment. You make a great point that many riders lose sight of and that is the designed intended purpose of the machine. The XMR's are great mud machines, but if you ride primarily trails a machine like the honda would be better. You also made a good point about the fact that if you take care of your machine they will last forever. You can't take a machine an use it as a submarine and expect it to last if your not doing the maintenance.

The brake placement on the Honda is fine. Having it before the diff means it's force is multiplied through the gears, the brakes don't get tangled up with weeds like your can am hubs because it's up out of the way.

I see what your saying and thinking on that it's not a bad idea...but that's just it "idea". Even in that spot they still get weeds in them. I just got done replacing one of my rear axles and found a lot of stuff jammed in the rear brakes. If it had a cover like the fronts it wouldn't be so bad but still a pain to change. I did appreciate your review. I have owned the 2002 Suzuki Vinson 500, 2009 Outlander 500 Max Limited, and now we have a 2023 Outlander XMR Max 1000 R. The Suzuki I owned for 20 years….so reliable. I found the 2009 500 to be slightly under powered. The new XMR is an amazing machine all round. I have never owned a Honda ATV, but every other Honda product has not survived the test of time and certainly not reliable and hard to start. I also agree that upsizing tires etc is not worth it. ATV’s are purpose built, buy the one that best suits your riding style. I am a big proponent of ground clearance and the new XMR is used a lot in the winter in deep snow and it is amazing with the 30” tires and 13” of ground clearance. If you take care of your machines they will last a long time. Thanks.

I'm 6 foot 1 inch, but my wife who is 5 foot 6 inches agrees that the Polaris is the most comfortable and feels more solidly planted on the ground and you sit down in the Polaris and not on top of the machine like the Yamaha and Honda. The Yamaha Grizzly is really top heavy, have to be really careful on it in curves or you'll lose it!

Does the Rubicon ride smoother than the Can Am, or is it that the Can Am suspension do not hold up that well? I have a Can Am defender HD8 and it rides great but I don't have any experience with the Atv line. I've had one older polaris 500 magnum that had smooth suspension, but didn't care for the belt drive, being that I went through two belts and one drive clutch, although the engine was very dependable. In the past I've had 3 Honda 250 Big reds and I know how tough they are, darn near bullet proof, knowing the manual shift is the only real trans that will survive hard conditions. YES, I was going to go with a Honda this time around because my last two were awesome, never had issues, and I went with a Can Am for my last ATV and although it never left me stranded it had some sort of issue from the start where it would stall or nearly stall when the throttle was just being pushed or when it was about to be let go. Anywho, I went to a dealership that had a DCT Rancher with 3 miles on it, they claimed the person decided they wanted a dirt-bike so they traded it (lies). I was ready to write a check, but told them I needed to test drive it first, and low and behold it had a serious transmission issue going on. Then the sales person claimed that it was because of a break in period, I was like dude, I have owned several ATVs, including two DCT ranchers and neither rode like this or bogged down searching for gears or not changing gears quickly, and it was almost like it was running at a really high idle. Anyway, needless to say I was like, NOPE. I did some research and there is a widespread issue with the last few years for Honda ATVs with the DCT (automatic transmission), and in some cases the transmissions shit the bed, or other major engine components because it had done so much damage. I also read that in 2020 and 2021 they did a recall for some sort of reprogramming that was suppose to fix the issue, and for some it was temp and the machine went back to malfunctioning again soon after riding. Others reported so much metal fragments that it did damage to the engine and other parts. Clearly, since I test drove a newer used one, I believe it was a 2022, they have not fixed this issue!

To be honest, and no offense meant, these two machines were designed for different purposes so, not getting the comparison . Your Cam AM is the Mud model, and is not going to be very good on the trails because of the Mud tires .... Your Honda was is more of Recreational level machine , designed for work and play ... Thanks for the comment. I understand what your saying but this is to show the difference between a mud bike and a stock bike. Everyone wants me to compare the two and everyone says the Can-Am is better in every way. This is me proving people wrong. When I look at the Honda, and Yamahas for that matter , I am super impressed with fit and finish , Durability. I can not speak to ride quality or capability because I have not owned one. With that said. I am purchasing another machine, I decided on 2021 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS SE . Why ? Fit Finish, Durability, and based on its specs , it is a big upgrade over 450 DPS,. When I decided to look , it had to be something more then the 450 is to me now. I did consider Honda as well, and if they had a 700 model or even 650 I would considered it. The HP @ 38 on the 450 is so high I did not consider 500 class or lower . also the 700 from Yamaha has a lot of after market performance stuff that can be done to it as well that was a factor too. Plus for a CVT type trans , 10 year Warranty on belt ... is just plan awesome. Again would have considered Honda if they had 650 or Higher .. I've ridden almost every big bore machine at this point but I haven't owned them but I can say I did consider the grizzly. The only thing that stopped me from buying it is it felt like it was geared to high in reverse. 48 miles on a trail lols hahahahahaha This is a bright take. A friend of mine asks me if it's an apocalypse. Which of your bikes do you want to ride with. My Honda, all day. Honda rarely gives you problems. I bought a dirk bike year 2000, when I got married. It's the only bike that I don't have an upgrade. I just change the spark plug almost a year ago. The brakes are still stock, well I changed the tires. When you buy a Honda bike, they become your family because they don't die.lols You ride them, you put them in your garage for years, tires are flat tires. They still work.lols I love my Yamaha too but they're not honda quality that's for sure.

Read about the Honda DCT transmission issues in newer models before you buy! I test drove a 2022 Rancher that was traded at 3 miles and it clearly had some sort of transmission malfunction going on, so I looked it up and it seems to be a widespread issue. I ended up going with another Can AM.

Theirs not much to say their that's why I didn't. Plus the video would be almost an hour if I did. In short the Honda is a little expensive to fix but the Can-Am breaks way more often.

@Allworldsk12 жыл бұрын
Canam always best for trail and track and mud! All other quads fall short compared to the Canam! 450, 650,850,1000 outlander models! Never go back when you switch I promise! Ditch the fucking mud tires on the trail and you are set!
@AmotorB2 жыл бұрын
To be honest this just isn't true. For the trail Can-Am does fall short to the Japanese brands due to bad reliability and comfort minus the Brute Force. They don't have anything for track since they don't have a pure sport machine anymore(The renegade isn't a pure sport machine don't go their). In the mud they are great though. Just changing the tires isn't going to make it the best. If you do your research you'll see why. Your opinion is heavily biased and you fail to see both sides.

Hey, aren't you comparing can ams entry level ATV to Hondas top end model? BRILLIANT!
@AmotorB3 жыл бұрын
Hondas top end model is the Rincon. Also their in the same class in terms of CC's. So if someone is looking for a machine in this class then these two are some of the options. So its fair in that aspect. Can-Am themselves did the same thing. Remember this is a honest review. Both manufacturers have their ups and downs
