A superbly engineered little V4, unfortunately it was as expensive to make as the RC45, and more expensive to manufacture than the Fireblade, a real Swiss watch of a bike but even at it's peak blown away by the much lighter ,cheaper and real racer for the road the RS250 V twin Aprilia, Beautiful as it was/is the little RVF , just like the other 4 stroke 4 cylinder japanese 400s like the FZR400SPS Yamaha, GSX-R400RR Suzuki, Kawasaki ZXR400RR and even Hondas other 4OOs the CBR400RR ( mini blade) and only genuine Honda imported VFR400R , they were all over engineered and so much heavier (up to 30kgs more) than the super light 2 stroke 250s, the top end was similar but the acceleration of the 250s blew the 400s away. as was shown in the 250/400 class of production racing where instead of an equal match up of 250 strokers and 400 4 strokes , it inevitably turned into 2 races with the 250s finishing ahead of the 400s, with the odd 400 getting amongst the 250s. but the flip side of this being many of the 400s are still around today ,whereas finding one of the 250s would be a thankless task. it's a pity the RVF isn't produced anymore, just imagine one lightened using todays materials, a smaller lighter V4 version of the Repsol CBR600RR , now that would make my mouth water.

Downside of the RS250 is requiring to rebuild the engine if you don't want it to go bang at some point. At least with those Japanese 400s they are quite reliable.

I have an 89 model.. in Red.. it goes well.. I’m tiny.. so it’s ideal.. handle extremely well.. it is fair to say.. the build quality is second to none..☺️ when new.. they cost more to buy then the 600cc.. I had to upgrade the regulator rectifier as they overheat easily.. a common problem with this model.. use a regulator from a super dream 250.. much bigger fins on it.. disperses heat better.. also there’s a flat spot on the carbs.. you can upgrade.. but it didn’t bother me..Revs hard.. handles well.. build quality.. without doubght the best in its class.. nothing compares..👍☝️.. small.. but perfectly formed🤗😂..waheyyyy!!!!!!!

simply a brilliant bike. prices are going through the roof, I miss my 1989 model. keep the original exhaust- loud exhausts just ruin the experience and you have to butcher the original to remove it. what a bike. sticky tyres, failing rectifiers, single sided swinging arm. twin headlights . legend.

The stock muffler literally has 3 bolts. Great design and easiest muffler change there is. No hacking or butchering involved as you suggest. The V4 motor just wakens up and expresses it’s full character with a good aftermarket exhaust. Stock RVF muffler is waayyyyy too restrictive.

Sorry, I've got an NC30, and they're far from a 'hooligan bike'. That's something a Hypermotard, or a Super Duke.

@hickipedia..Nc35... The Honda rvf 400 is a NC35... The fact you don't use that term on a nc35 review (not nc30) only shows you cannot tell the difference, the mere fact you even say the nc35 is not a hooligan bike also discredits your statement. That or you are a very boring rider.

Azz if you knew anything at all about NC30's and 35's you would realise you sound like a complete tool! And the 35 is no hooligans bike!

Clearly I do, never mind the fact you have blatantly failed to correct me, meaning your comment was only for the sake of starting a debate, you must be so content with your life huh.

Haha. Fool. I've had 2 no 30th and 2 nc35's! One of which is still sitting inside my garage alongside an April is RSV4 and a ducati 1098 streetfighter! Having had over 25 bikes in the last 10 years I know a few things about them. The nc35's is actually the better bike. Power to weight etc. The 35 just has the nicer components and modernised styling! Lovely little bike! But to think it's a hooligans tool shows a complete lack of experience! It's a dangerously fast bike in the right hands yes. But by that I mean in the corners. Keeping it at full chat on maximum lean. But even the concept of it being small and light is of little use in this day and age. It is no smaller or lighter in feel to the RSV4. . That is a hooligans bike! So you go back to your magazines and posters and keep living the dream ;)

Ai Ai Ai... the logic...such.. woww... fail Before arguing things being "hooligan" I would probably check the definition first. ANYTHING can be classed as hooligan, ANYTHING, infact socially speaking anything loud and fast can be classed as hooligan, hoon-ish, etc etc, infact many laws in Australia have been designed particularly to target "hoon/hooligan" vehicles, the fact that hooligan is a objectifying term based purely on bias decision is a complete and utter variable, you are right about power/weight ratio, which makes this bike accepted where I am as the fastest LAMS bike available, to me this bike is beautifull, and socially speaking this bike is a hooligan/hoon bike. Many from my club would agree too, these bikes are well.. utter fast and fun for what they are, with the tyga kits fited they also look the part. No point in even explaining what the bike sat next to, the fact that you've owned bikes is irrellevant, i've owned many performance cars, that doesn't immediatelly mean I know the difference between a rotary and an inline 6, I do, but thats beside the point, your text would have been far less egotistical had you just explained why it's not a hooligan bike, and as far as I know, the people I ride with, consider this a perfect hooligan bike.... Ill put this into simple words for you, In the right hands heck even the over confident hands this bike can be a hooligan bike, plain and simple.. this is obviously a battle of bias decisions that will have no ending to it, but i'll stick to my "magazines" LOL nice assumption by the way... which is what I'd say if it was right, now excuse me, I've got my supra waiting for it's reprogammed cpu.

When I was young no sweat as I never went past 180lbs until some years ago after getting t-boned by psychotic road rage mother trying to run her 13yo daughter over. But my bike and I unknowingly prevented the kid from getting greased.Anyhow at 225lbs today my weight would kill performance more than the .03% chance of me not having consistent corner set up thru exit precision.lol If I was that test woman's friend well she looks petite and all but I would suggest a huge breast reduction for the suspension sag height and just overall sprung weight savings. And she should ride in a thong and two band aids also.

bowches which one you talking about? I just sold my KTM RC390 and test rode an RVF yesterday. They have more hp than the KTM but also carry about 40kgs more. Plus they are 20 plus years old so the engines aren't gonna be as tight as a new bike. I think an able rider on a track would get similar times on both the Honda and KTM...ye I like the RVF it sounds like heaven
