K&N FIPK is great for adding sound but digging around s2ki it looks like it actually loses a small amount of HP over the full stock setup. I had a Mugen intake ready to install last year but didn't want to cut my factory hood/bonnet and in the past 2 years haven't been able to source a brand new Mugen hood so I ended up selling the intake and going for an AEM V2 CAI which is the only S2000 intake I've seen reliably making any power improvements and not losing power anywhere - it also sounds amazing. Power-wise it seems to give a decent mid-range bump while keeping the same peak HP as stock.
@OllyRoss2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I am fully aware of the power loss with this set up but the sound is what I was after as it won't stay N/A forever. Good to know that there is a solution out there if you want to stay N/A though!
@Manvswild116 ай бұрын
Have you seen inside a AEM V2? The piece of smaller tubing for their (dual chamber crap) continues inside the other bigger tubing a long way, it has to disrupt airflow… I was going to go that setup until I saw that and went Injen instead which is nearly the same without the issue, and it’s louder because it’s only one layer or aluminium tube vs two
@kalmtraveler6 ай бұрын
@@Manvswild11 yep, had one on my first AP1 back in 2007, and ended up putting one on my 2nd AP1 in 2021. The 'dual chamber crap' is in fact one of the reasons it makes a little bit of power over stock, where most other intakes (particularly those without the multi size design) actually end up losing power. If you spend some time looking at actual dynamometer charts from real owners back when these cars were new, you'll find that AEM was not lying when explaining how their design utilizes harmonics to increase the amount of air entering the engine at certain RPM ranges - in exactly the same way that the runners and plenum of an intake manifold influence this. Nothing new, and not a massive improvement, but a tangible one nonetheless.

Bought one of these kits ages ago myself but haven't fitted it yet. I came to the S2000 after many years with civics and Accords and was quite disappointed by the lack of VTEC crossover noise. I had the same face as you when I did the airbox mod the first time. Not only do you loose some HP's you also loose a lot more petrol because you go into VTEC chasing the noise. Sounds awesome!
@OllyRoss2 жыл бұрын
Well, it looks like you have to get it on the car then! I think the loss in power is worth it for the noise! Haha

The FIPK can be modified to reduce the heat soak issues! It basically just needs additional heat shielding to seal the gap between it and the strut, shields at the front to stop hot radiator air getting in, and a big cold air scoop from the front grill to get more cold air in! Mines heavily modified in this way and performs well now!
@OllyRoss2 жыл бұрын
May look into this in the future. I do think the gap between the strut and the airbox is a strange design choice.
@adam_s2k2 жыл бұрын
@@OllyRoss it’s because of the left hand drive cars having the AC pipework there that’s all! But unfortunately for us it just leaves a big old gap for it to suck in hot air from around the exhaust manifold! If you want any info on how I’ve modified mine just have a look on my intagram, same name as on here :)

At least you are aware of a likely very small performance loss. Takeda is a better option. AEM is a good option which is what I run, just have to be somewhat careful in the wet. Can easily recreate the intake and make a DIY one too

What makes you think it will lose power ? Nearly all open cone filters make power especially on s2k. The stock air box is ridiculously restrictive. All this heat soak is bollocks. Good job 👍🏽
@fruitygranulizer5407 күн бұрын
nope. it depends on the car, some stock airboxes are restrictive. but the one on the honda s2000 is super well made, piping is direct from the intake with nothing to restrict the airflow. check out LHT Performance's video testing out different intakes for the S2k. the performance is similar during cold runs, but once theres heat in the engine bay, aftermarket intakes drop about 10 hp vs stock airbox due to heat soak. again, it really depends on the car. honda's rsx for example has one of the worst stock airbox designs and even with heat soak an aftermarket intake will give you an hp boost. but the s2k is different in that regards.
