They do make "go-no go" feeler gauges. For example an .007 would be .007 at the tip and step up to .008 so you could check that the .007 would go in but the .008 wouldn't all in one motion.

I love that the answer to this question was just "use a set of go/no-go gauges."

When you adjust the clearance, you allowed +/- 1 thousandth. Is it à good idea to adjust on the tighter side expecting the gap will get more loose?
@Dylans503 Жыл бұрын
It's better to go looser. Valves usually tighten over time. Slappy valves are happy valves

I have no clue why but mine is backfiring popping at 1/4 to half throttle. New dual carbs new plugs new coils. What will happen if I plug off the 2 vacuum lines on top of the carbs. I'm about to just turn it down to bare block and rebuild just to see wtf is going on

If it’s not ticking leave it alone

I wondered about my 2005 Honda cbr rr1000. Ticking noise when you first start the bike up. People have told me. Some say cam chain tensioner. Some say it spun bearing.I would figure if it was a spun bearing it would make the noise even though the bike heated up once the bike gets to temperature the sound goes away. But when you get on the throttle it starts rattling like something fell in the motor. Not going to lie. Drain the oil out of it and I seen glitter in the oil no chunks of any kind but fine shavings about the size of gold glitter.. I wonder what it could be any suggestions

motor is done 😅

@@kaspuj yeah that's why I got a new motor in it .it sucked but it was a spun bearing. Had a good mechanic finding parts for it it was difficult but they found them and we back on the road again it's been 2 years and she's moving strong just looking for a new fairing kit for it

can you rebuild more powerfull a 99 honda shadow vt1100 ace tourer engine ?

Mileage on the bike I think it's 35.122. of course bought the bike used never know what somebody did to it or didn't do to it. From my knowledge the valve job was never done so I wonder if it's the valve that are tapping. Or a loose exhaust. I mechanic came by and listen to it and said it wasn't a spun bearingbut I'm a firm believer hearing something and taking it apart are two different things.I just miss rotten and it needs to get fixed or if someone could tell me the best place to buy another motor if worse comes to worse
@nekotherion73173 жыл бұрын
The shadow doesnt have actual hydraulic lifters, it has hydraulic tensioners, via the tappet, if the tappet however has NOT been primed, or the line that heads up to the top-end (see banjo bolt on front right of crank case(external)) your lash will be off, if the tappet is working properly, and youve adjusted everything properly, should be dang near silent

Why don't all bikes have hydraulic valves. I'm getting really fed up with motorcycle manufacturers.
@TJBRUTALCUSTOMS7 ай бұрын
At higher engine speeds, hydraulic valve system tend to pump up and can cause valve float. This can be a huge limitation for motorcycles since they often have higher engine rpms when compared to cars. sooooo yeah.
