Hi Changed chain and sprockets this winter and when I got my first ride this year I noticed it was overtightned. I have now to this point loosen and tightned 5 times to try and eliminate the problem.
It still persists.
Uppdate: Went to a mechanic, And he couldnt find any faults. So I guess I was a bit stressed out about it.
I guess its just a bit noise in the start because its new and clean, and I cleaned all the dirt around the sprocket case so maby the metalic click sound comes out more easy.
Remember a good 30mm slack on the chain and some good lubing. After a while the sound went gone for me :)
If you have any comments about it plz leave them down below.

Welcome to owning a chain driven bike, its where its rolling on the chain slider and friction between the rollers and the sprocket

I'm not a mechanic, just been riding motorcycles for over 50 years. That sounds like the rollers are going over the teeth, just like they are supposed to do. Nothing weird about that on a new chain, especially if the tension is proper. Y'all ride safe.

i'm having the same noises. It gets quiet after cleaning and lubing, but almost 1km in it starts to rattle. The chain was changed couple thousand km ago. Probably will have to change the lube or use a lot more of it.

@TennRides 2 жыл бұрын
@@sFde46 Without actually seeing, or hearing, the chain it is hard to say for sure. Chains ddo make noise going over the teeth. If you are keeping the chain cleaned and lubricated it should be fine. If the noise sounds like a slapping type of clicking, it could just need to be tightened a bit.

@TennRides
@TennRides 2 жыл бұрын
@@issac951 If the chain tension is where it should be for your bike's specs and the chain is lubed and isn't worn out, take a look at the teeth on your sprocket. If a chain is loose, rusted, has spots where the rollers are seized up, etc, it will wear down on the teeth of the sprocket, causing a slap as it pops over a bad tooth. All of the teeth on the sprocket should look the same. They shouldn't be pointed, angled, rounded over too much, or lacking depth to grab the chain properly. I hope this helps.

Remove the front sprocket apply some lithium bearing grease or a equivalent to the output shaft. Reinstall front sprocket, torque bolt to required specification and adjust chain to right tension. The noise will now disappear

Ok. Same here, visited a mechanic and he told me not to worry. Read a few things about the sound potentially being a counter shaft bearing breaking down, in which case the engine has to be opened up. Similarly sounds like a chain issue on mine too tho. Paranoia I guess.

I have a 2003 z1000 with the exact same noise. I was so convinced it was the chain hitting the top of the swing arm but after looking further and seeing this video, I guess I'll just keep it lubed and monitor it. Brand new high quality sprockets and chain.

I have this exact same sound with my Yamaha Tracer 900 2018. I got this after replacing the factory chain + front and rear sprocket. I read somewhere that this sound is caused because the factory front sprocket has a rubber dampening thing on it, and most after market front sprockets (like the one in this video) dont have the rubber dampening.

@@jammydodgerman i have slacked the chain and the noise is almost gone. The reason i say almost is because the 20% that is left might be because of the aftermarket front sprocket. It doesnt have a rubber dampening thingy, so it is making more noise compaired to the OEM front sprocket.

+Walisson Lopes I found out that the old sprocket had some kind of rubber ring on it and alot of dirt in the front sprocket cover, The new front sprocket did not have this rubber ring, and also when cleaning off all the dirt I guess the sound from the chain becomes more present. So I just ignored it a while and now I cant hear it. I havn't riden my bike for 5 months cuz of winter :), cant w8 for the season to start off again with a sweete parade of 5k riders doing a huge route. I hope ur problem get's fixed m8. Ride safe

+SeyMc thanks man... A friend of mine found the problem, front sprocket was a bit loose, not cuz the bolt wasn't tightened up enough it was because the new sprocket wasn't fitting properly on the bike... So had to put kinda a gasket there to hold it tightly and then tighten the bolt... Now it's all good but might buy a new sprocket soon... My bike was making the same sound as yours, weird hey... Ride safely brother! thanks for replying

I had this for problem for 12 months on my cb500 and my fzr600 ,I found out you have to replace front sprocket for an original Honda or Yamaha sprockets as the front sprocket has a plastic inner shroud the chain rests on when running at low speeds ,after market sprockets don't have them that's why they make a grinding noise ,it solved my issue on both bikes just get original sprockets it works

Could be a few things ... too tight, wheel misalignment, recheck front sprocket and re-torque it, and last but not least if you changed the chain for an aftermarket model it may be low quality although it may look new and well taken for it will not be as OEM quality.

Can be from too much chain wear. The wheel can be aligned but misplaced, check if you have put some spacers wrong or missing. The sound is from the chain not entering the sprocket smoothly, U should check chain length , 150 mm between 11 links, is the limit. More than that and you should replace the whole transmission.

Hello guys, I had the same trouble. I wants more chain lube, and I had my chain K.O. And this sounds became. I solve it with a little bit more chain tension. if I see it well you have space for chain about 30 mm. Is better a little bit more tension and smaller space. I put there 25 mm. And ugly sounds gone. And bike is reacts more smoothly. I will replace chain early, but if its squizing and knocking, more tension helps.

Front sprocket doesn’t fit the chain, that’s the noise. Every link that comes out catches on the tooth of the sprocket. So it’s either worn out or not made for that particular chain. Check that those two parts are compatible if they have been changed then look if it’s too worn out.

If you don’t weight 300lbs you don’t need the exact chain slack on the loose side. Factory 1 3/4 inch of slack is to support up to the maximum weight of rider on the bike. I weight 168lbs and adjust my chain just a hair over and inch and your checking your slack wrong!!! You want to pull down on it before and you also need to check the slack in multiple areas. Check slack rotate tire check again. I always adjust my slack on the loosest section of the chain. There’s always a tighter and looser section. After adjusting use a measuring tape to measure from middle of axle nut to a frame bolt that’s equivalent on both sides for a perfect measurement last check side to side movement make sure the chain doesn’t reach the tire sidewall if it touches the tire after adjusting the chain is bad.
@michaelskinner896
@michaelskinner896 2 жыл бұрын
These are great points. Also, when pushing up on the bottom of the chain to check for slack, only push hard enough until the chain on the top part of the sprocket just begins to move. There's a tendency for people to push too hard which lends itself to assuming there's too much chain slack.

Between 20-30 seconds when you’re rolling the tire it doesn’t look like the chain is mating with the sprocket very well. It looks like it’s binding slightly and not smoothly going onto the sprocket.

its not the sound of the spocket bro its the rubber clamp in c type attached in swingarm because during race it chain swing up and down .which will damage that swingarm axel thats why two rubber clamp are given up and down just to protect getting hit by the waves of chain to avoid this noise simply tighten the chain mean u have loose chain drive and that sound wil go off .... trust me.
