Thank you for this! I'm absolutely NOT a mechanically-inclined person, and I've always taken my ST1300 to the shop for even basic service. Thanks to this very clear and helpful video, I just changed the final drive oil, and it went without a hitch. I'll never have it done at the shop again.

Hello Novascotian 🙋🏻♂️, thank you for watching and thank you for the wonderful feedback. I'm so happy you were able to service your own motorcycle. It's a great feeling servicing and repairing your own bike. Have a wonderful week and Fourth of July ❤️🤙🏍️

Just a note, and someone has probably mentioned this before, pop the fill cap loose before you remove the drain plug. You want to make sure that you can add oil after it's empty.
@MotoTouringWorldWide5 ай бұрын
The filler cap threads are also VERY easy to strip and must be torqued as specified. Do not over tighten. 🤙🏍️

@@MotoTouringWorldWide Yep, it's a big pet peeve of mine. Drain bolts are not head bolts. They need just the right amount of torque to hold them and to keep them from leaking but no more. There is no need for gorilla hands.

I watched your video before posting my thread to FB, Mike. Just watched it from google and did not open in youtube. Now I'm here second time for today direct on the channel. Yes. Your video I watched and I will do your way. It helpful. Just have a question about type of oil. Honda tell me 80W90 regular oil. You know, I'm not crazy like you on racetrack, just need for longer time. Do you still recommend me your way or better Honda manual way? Ride safe and stay save. Alex.

Hello Alexandr, great to hear from you again 🤙🏍️. . Note that the difference between 75 weight "or" 80 weight is the lower-end for colder climates. As long as the range is there everything will be fine for the drive shaft and factory specifications. 75 weight is for viscosity during cold weather. Mobile 1,, 75-90w is more suitable for a wider range of temperatures. If you never ride in cold weather than 80-90 weight is perfect 🤙🤙🏍️🏍️

@@MotoTouringWorldWide , I'm riding during winter, Mike, a lot. Here on Ottawa we have strong winter, but sometimes we have warming up for couple days and I rode. Outside can be around minus 3 by Celsius scale. Do your think your way is better?
@MotoTouringWorldWide Жыл бұрын
@@moshealex ,, your weather is colder than mine. My way is not necessarily a better way,, it's just a wider viscosity range that Mobile 1 provides which "includes" the 80-90 range. Think about engine oils for a moment for cars and motorcycles, the first number represents the viscosity during cold start up. I would feel more comfortable with 75-90 weight in your climate. However 80-90 is going to be perfectly fine. Motorcycle engineers know that motorcycles will not be ridden in extreme cold weather conditions anyway 🤙🏍️

Nice and neat. Be careful not to overtighten the filler bolt because it's easy to strip trying to loosen it. Don't ask me how I know.

Thank you for watching. LOL,,, also thanks for the feedback on over-tightening. I have in the past learned to use a Torque Wrench. Don't ask me how I know LOL 😄🤙🏍

you can spray WD40 inside and keep spinning the drive shaft until the WD40 comes out nice and clean...... then refill with the Mobil 1 ...also put the bike on the kickstand and that allows a bit of extra oil in the crankcase.....

Thanks for the video. I’m new to the ST13 world. What washer size did you use?
@MotoTouringWorldWide3 жыл бұрын
Hello Richard thank you for watching,, the final drive bolt uses the same 14 mm crush washer as the oil drain plug washer. I do not know the size of the rubber o-ring that goes around the larger opening. I just asked for a new one anytime I'm near a Honda motorcycle dealership. Hope everything works out and have a wonderful weekend. I also hope you like the other videos within my video list. ❤️🤙🏍️

Hello and thank you for watching. My bike came with side crash bars (tip over bars) when I bought it 5 years ago. I have seen them available at: www.st1300-accessories.co.uk/ and off and on within ST1300 forums and clubs. Hope you are able to find a pair. They have a saved my bags a few times. 🤙🏍️

How many miles have you put on the ST utilizing Mobile 1 instead of the Honda brand of gear oil?
@MotoTouringWorldWide3 жыл бұрын
Hello Stephen, thank you for watching, I have put about 7000 miles on the bike since the video was made. This hypoid oil from Mobil 1 has been used in the family for the last 10 years on other final drives and has performed excellent. Note that hypoid oil "branded" is still hypoid oil and Universal in the solid state final drives for motorcycles and cars. 75-90 weight is very Universal and works very well for our motorcycle final drives. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and ride safe ❤️🤙🏍️

you use oil 75w, this is not good oil. You must use 80w
@MotoTouringWorldWide8 ай бұрын
Not true, 75w - 90w is the "RANGE" and meets all specifications and requirements for "STRAIGHT" 80w. Plus Mobile 1 is FULL SYNTHETIC. The same formula for engine oil. If it says to use "STRAIGHT" 30w engine oil (such as your car), you can use 5w - 40w which will fulfill the 30w requirement.
