Excellent excellent excellent review. Clear concise enthusiastic and objective subbed. I sense what you are saying is this bike has stayed true to it's roots and dropped some much needed wieght.

@ 3:54 commenter claims the VFR800F has a 43mm upside down fork seems like an error. The VFR800F only have conventional forks not upside down. clearly visible.

Lovely bike. I had a VFR 750F back IN THE 90'S, compared to my previous unfaired 650 Yamaha it was magic. The faster it went the more stable it became, like an arrow.

To the top! 2015 VFR800DLX... bought mine brand new in 2019 for $7000 US in a crate after Honda discounted the newest generation from $13,500 to move them. It was a no brained at that price!!!! Mine is still stock plus a SC Project slip-on. Love the bike! A bit heavy in the garage but not on her feet.

Excellent review! I feel chuffed the word used to describe this bike is "eccentric" given that belies a certain personality in the owner. Lol 😆 I really enjoy the VTEC tech in the engine at 6800rpm which transforms it into an altogether different machine. As you say, the bike is simple with no engine modes. It would be excellent if the bike had both up & down quick shifter but I've had no problem with false neutrals provided one is deliberate with the up change. The bike handles so smoothly and even more so at speed. And my Mrs loves being a pillion on it. You'd never even know there was added weight on the back seat; the engine is that strong! 👍

Thanks for your very thorough review. A few upgrades in suspension and other bits like seat, grips TC. The engine is the main reason I own a VFR ('97, 750) and I'd say that's the main attraction of the new model. As you say, " a bit eccentric". I do like the minimalism of the fairing on this model.

I think a slightly more relaxed riding position, cruise control, and an adjustable windscreen would make this bike killer. Seems silly to not include cruise control on a sport tourer when everything is already fuel injected and throttle by wire. After that they ought to find a way to drop 50 pounds off this bike, but that may be a stretch.

Absolutely gorgeous bike. There's still LOADS of these sitting gathering dust with more and more discounts at dealers. Don't understand why this machine didn't sell better - common man's panigale!

Upside down fork? Looks like a normal right side up fork....? Good review.
@XRM4736 жыл бұрын
Easy to ride and V4 character is great, as well as the adjustable seat height. Fuel consumption is good, we get over 250miles on a tank touring, thanks to the vtec! Squeeze in some more cubes, maybe the 1200 motor into this chassis (claimed to be physically smaller), add cruise control, some trick suspension, though as it is works well and there you have a ninth generation of an icon
@JDuBz8153 жыл бұрын
Forks aren't upside down. But they definitely should be for the $. I mean it's got a single sided swingarm and they couldn't invert the forks?
@dinonoce10 жыл бұрын
thanks for the review...I was considering this for a sport tourer (with a tourer bias) as a complimentary bike to my sport bike, but it sounds like I'll need to look elsewhere; maybe VFR1200 or Ducati Multistrada. Nice review, you have a new sub!

I'm sure it is an awesome bike, but why oh why didn't Honda use a shaft transmission on it like in the 1200cc model? On most other counts, it has a very good level of equipment standard. I love the fact most new Honda bikes come with gear indicators and ABS and some even have traction control. It seems like a great bike overall. A very good balance between sporty and touring.
@NigelGriff7 жыл бұрын
Because if we had shaft drive the bike would have lost 30% power at the rear wheel

I like it. Relatively simple keeping it affordable. I admit abs, TC, etc. is good for safety but adds complication. I don't want to think how you bleed the brakes on an abs model. One problem I see here that I've seen complained about with the previous gens is that with that fairing changing handle bar options seem limited. It's a sport tourer yes but tour is in there and customizing for comfort should be factored in. You'd have to cut the fairing it looks like if you add anymore than an inch of rise. The Ninja 1000 has no fairing in the way just windscreen which can be cut or replaced depending on need which is fantastic!. Just a pet peeve of mine since I had to cut my Aprilia Falco fairing to put bar risers on and it really pissed me off. This and the prev gen if you could make it comfortable would be about perfect. My CBR F4 with risers is probably more upright than this. I'll have to see it in person.

Great review packed with info and perspective. Love the looks of the new bike too - a more elegant version of my 2001 (last of the gear driven cam models). Makes most recent bikes look too fussy. I'd called them over-styled if they didn't look so much like screwed up birthday cards.

It ISN'T a cheap bike, so WHY the cheap suspension, engine power etc OR reduce price and sell more. Honda have lost their way. We the customers are PAYING for the racing wins with premium on each bike. So heavy too with 104BHP less than 30 YEARS AGO! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE em! As 1st ever biggish bike was Honda VF400F. I just wish they'd upgraded this right into the 21st century and offer every technical advancement to make Honda VF800 the bike it Should've been. 125 bhp, hub steering, 3 setting traction programs, light shaft drive, drop 20kg with carbon frame/ancillaries, light exhaust etc and make it MUCH better. It IS good, but not great as it could easily be with the "Might of Honda" behind it. Bike makers don't care/advance as fast as cars are. Hybrids, 250 MPH, doubled fuel consumption, Ford Fiesta now has 1000cc engine 125bhp 3 cylinder, 60MPG at 6000 Revs, a much more advanced engine than in this bike.
@garideb6 жыл бұрын
It's not cheap, but it is well priced for what it is. It's about the same price as a Z1000sx and £3k cheaper than an R1200RT. Single-sided swing arm, V4 engine, all that bodywork and the paint job is really high quality. If they'd given it more power and more tech the price would have gone up, and they would not sell in big enough numbers to make back all the development costs
@ΔημήτρηςΗλιάδης-ε6γ4 жыл бұрын
20 kgs less and 125 bhp,then what with the cbr600rr?hub steering,etc etc.Come on let's also put a jump jet pack and and a rocket propulsion system 🙃😁🤣. Its,a vfr 800,single arm,v800,with v tec.Its a Honda,and we all know what that means.If it works good, we dont mess with it.They just gave it a fresh look,along with a revised more linear v tec engagement,single arm,some weight loss,etc etc. Personally I love the previous one,and if I can afford to buy one in the future I ll be crazy happy. Further more if I could one day get that 800vfr,i d be double crazy happy.

Not buying one, which is really disappointing because I really love the VFR marque. I can happily live with the 104hp as long as it comes with electronically adjustable suspension, MUCH better fuel economy than that and.. WHERE IS THE F&$@ING CRUISE CONTROL?! There, now I feel better. Next time honda. I'll miss you until then.

Ya can't see it when ur riding. Screw street cred i ride to ride! It doesn't matter what ur on. Build a cafe racer 125, 250, 450, 500 you won't be disappointed as they are more fun. It's more fun to go fast on a slow bike than to go slow on a fast bike
@Mathewmartialart10 жыл бұрын
cant believe im gonna say this. this looks WORSE than the bloody vfr1200 and that was fucking awful. they seem to have thinned it out and taken away the looks from the previous vfr 800 a-6 looks. it would have been much better if they simply sharpened that look rather than slim the whole thing down. and whats with the exhaust not being under the seat!!! and then to top it off. its bloody slower!!!
