Thanks for doing this video series. Currently working on a 1980 Honda XL500S. It had a broken kick start shaft. Have a 1980 Honda XL250S, that’s next of the get running list.

I believe you installed the exhaust collets correctly (narrow side facing out). I had the same issue with an XLR 250 '91, It took me half a day and multiple calls, texted photos to a repair shop etc. to figure out. They simply don't fit the other way around no matter what the manual says. Very good job so far, congrats. Looking forward to listening to the first start.

I don't know but here is one I found on eBay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384119205521?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=zvf0vvreryc&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=f5HEsbnUR5u&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Thanks for this great video. I too installed my exhaust headers with the collets reversed, the same as you did with yours. My local Honda dealer told me the Honda parts diagram is correct but just like you, I found that impossible to do. Have you had any problems with your exhaust afterwards?
@richardjweeks3 жыл бұрын
No problems at all. I'm surprised your honda dealer even remembered how they are supposed to go.

@@richardjweeks The Honda tech said he had done many of these and the diagram was correct. Just goes to show you can get bad advice even from the experts. Thanks for the reply.

I bought mine from David silver spares. Just checked the site and it's not currently listed, this often happens when they are out of stock. www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/XL250S-1978-USA/

Call them to see if it's coming back in. Failing that, they are produced by musket mufflers in New Zealand. They ship internationally and are roughly the same price I paid here in the UK

I honestly don't know. They came with the bike when I bought it.

What did the exhaust set you back?

I think the rear pipe was about £230 and the front was 38 dollars plus postage.

Could you tell me were you got that rear bracket from please item number or name thanks

If it's the bracket at the very end of the silencer which holds the exhaust to the frame, I spent a lot of time looking on eBay until the individual parts came up. I nearly ended up making m my own ! If it's the bracket that joins the front half to the rear then it's generic exhaust bracket
