Chaz Driver mines a 1991 z50r and it does 41 but I have a after market airfilter so I guess that helps.

New out of the crate top speed for the early Z50's was 28 mph...The moment I heard the bike in the vid start....well... it needs a teardown and rebuild...its running rough.

@jefferey johnson Do some googling if you think I'm off. Maybe the 2 stroke 50s will get you up in the 50's, but seems from my quick research my 28 is in the ballpark of reality. A few years back I had my 69 AK1 Engine rebuilt to factory spec by Moto Enzo. All sprockets were kept original. Yeah my fat ass is 190 but the engines pull well and mine was fresh. It's a 25 to 28 MPH bike tops. But I remember riding them when I was 14 (and maybe 125 then) and they were never 30-35+ the either - BUT, If yours was faster, great - it maybe had a hotter cam, an overbore and perhaps taller gearing at the sprocket. But out of the crate new ? Unlikely.

@jefferey johnson - Although I haven't made mods to my 69 AK1, I have a 67 CA-102 Super cub that will hit 40. So yeah I'm right and so are you - an out of the crate Mini trail is a 25-28 or so bike. And your premise is right, it's for 9 -12 years olds...and if you want to tweak it, easy enough for an addtional 10 mph or so. I've never modded mine, although tempted. I did a frame up resto on my 69 4 years ago, engine and gearing left stock. I have a 69 CT-70 basket case right now which will be my next project. I'll probably juice it a little for fun.

@jefferey johnson are you referring to the Cub or Z-50AK1? Right now the Super cub will give me 40 on the original engine build. If the minin-trail should provide comparable, then drive and final sprocket ratios have to change (at the expense of 1st gear torque. I'd like to know if anything has ever been written about the Z-50 "reverse Mod". If you have a link, would like to read it. I guess I learn something every day.

@jefferey johnson - Thanks, I get where youre coming from on the tires. As far as the arrestor previous owner did that but the muffler is chewed through so I found a NOS muffler but no arrestor. Other than changing the gearing one mod I know of is putting in a hotter cam, and I may have that done. I'd like to see the top end on the bike to be close to 45. Would have loved it to be a 4 sp but it is what it is. Undecided if I'll do a tooth change, have time to think about it. Cheers.

Sounded like it only had 2 gears. Btw it def must have been sitting cause that carb has some issues. also make sure the tank doesnt have rust and clog the petcock or gasline. Clean it out and it def will run better. Great find. I have a 1969 that im almost done restoring

yeah it's great! it seems alot slower in the video. one of the best trail bikes yet! sadly, my friend was going off jumps with it and after a couple days he accidentally crashed it into a boulder. the inner front forks were bent in ant the front tire (both of the tires are bald because they're the originals!) blew out. found some cheap forks online though!
