As a mechanic myself, I can assure you these hondas are very reliable. I own one, a 2013 civic 1.8L and all I have done is regular oil changes, transmission fluid and filter changes every 30k miles, brakes and rotors when needed. However, this is just standard maintenance. On the otehr hand, the only fix I did was getting a "D" light flashing, which is common, and its not necessarily a transmission problem but a transmission fluid pressure sensor, which is external. Also, a minor oil leak coming from the timing chain inspection plate, which is very easy to repair. I do my own repairs on both my vehicles, including my Toyota camry. I've seen other makes and models such as GMC, Chevy and their timing chains have snapped at only 35 k miles because of their horrible eco tec engines. The hyundais and kias are as worse as GM and chevy, severe oil consumption, piston rings problems, engine blows up, catch on fire due to short under fuse box. I used to work for hyundai, Ford, and Subaru that's why I inow these things. As far qs Subarus, they qre also decent cars.. Nissans? They used to be reliable but now with their Jatco CVT transmissions, the biggest garbage ever.... They fail at around 45 to 65k miles, sometimes even sooner.. since Nissan merged with Renault, its quality has gone down the drain.

I have a 2014 EXL w/136K and have had very few issues. As noted in this video, I had to replace the rear calipers and the air tube from the air cleaner to the air intake. The car did not throw any codes for the air tube though. I've also been advised to change the rubber hydraulic fluid hose feeding the rear calipers if you experience the rear caliper sticking as the friction caused by the sticking will likely cause the hose to cause additional issues. I do change the oil ~ every 5K and the trany fluid anytime the thing starts doing a bit of searching. I have not had success changing the water pump as the bolt holding the tensioner is a bear to remove. I even took the thing to my local mom and pop garage and they could not get the bolt off. Evidently this is a common issue with Hondas and I had the same issue with my wife's 2012 MDX. I will be giving the water pump replacement another attempt soon as the water pump is not going to last forever. For the next try, I'm going to remove the passenger side engine mount and lover the engine a couple of inches. This will enable me to use an impact driver directly to the tensioner bolt. Honda could have placed a hole for access to the tensioner bolt as I've seen in other Honda models. I've been buying Hondas sine 1981 and I believe the 81 Civic and the 2014 EXL and 2013 SI are the best vehicles I've owned. Replaced starter, battery, and brake pads once, other than that just oil changes every few months. Gonna look into maybe getting some suspension work done because it's starting to ride a little squeaky, but still drives fine. It's my recommendation for a first time car owner, just because it needs minimal work and never gives me problems My only gripe is that especially on the coupe, the engine bay is so small and crammed in, making it hard to work on anything. I also put a zip tie on the cap top metal piece (tied it to a hose) so I don’t lose it if it pops out again. I did replace the transmission filter and drained and filled the transmission fluid twice. A common problem with the 2013 Honda Civic when the airbag or brake system light keeps coming on is a lower level of electricity. Change the battery to make certain that the battery is fully chargeable. If that doesn't work and if it's NOT the alternator then a common problem is the electronic load detector (ELD) which is a voltage regulator and it's in the fuse box. There's a video on how to change it. It's a small brown rectangular module and you have to remove 3 or 4 screws to get it out because of the metal piece that passes through it.

Have a 2012 Replaced the cracked intake hose. You will need a scan tool to reset idle after cleaning the throttle and maf sensor Replaced rotors 80k miles for shaking. If you live somewhere with salt, the parking brake will stick on the caliper... clean with a wire brush and soak with wd-40 twice a year. Front struts will need replaced eventually Rear brake caliper piston cracked and leaked fluid after hard braking in negative 40 temperatures.... If you own a manual, the slave cylinder will start squeaking and need to be cleaned/greased.
@krakenhits1587 Жыл бұрын
A cracked intake hose for a while with hesitation I thought it was the transmission but it was just the intake. Did yours throw a code? If you run it for a long time with a cracked intake hose will that make the engine run lean?
@lionintu Жыл бұрын
@krakenhits1587 my intake hose was also cracked. Some kind of reset was needed after the intake hose was replaced because the throttle was jacked up
@truthseeker1203 Жыл бұрын
How do you reset idle with a scan tool?? I have a blue driver but that’s not an option..
@lionintu Жыл бұрын
@truthseeker1203 I'm not sure what the tool was. The basic obd11 tool reset wasnt enough. My cousin is a mechanic. He hooked a computer looking tablet to it and started diagnosing and resetting things including the throttle valve (which i was cleaning inside of while changing the intake hose). The difference was day and night when he was done using the computer.

Its a good vehicle I have a 2014 civic with 242k miles on it. In my opinion it is fairly reliable vehicle but I had a corolla too and i would say corolla reliability is much better. for me the major work I had was to change the alternator, rear shocks, right brake caliper jammed and leaked. Rotors, brakes and tires couple times other than that regular maintenance so not bad. keep changing transmission oil after every 35k and I never had issues with transmission. I change the oil every 10k, plugs around 20k and flush all fluids around 100k. so im happy with it and obviously steering wheel seems a little worn out now but thats not a biggie I will put a cover on it.

I got my grandfathers 14 civic 130k miles after he died I only had it 4 months and sofar I spent probably 6000$ in repairs. the wiring harness is made of soy to be eco friendly so if you live rural the mice and squirrels will eat it and in my case it messed up the cvt so that needed repaired. then the keyless entry failed so I needed that because the car refused o shut off followed by I think the the remote sensing so the car would shut off mid drive. everything else in the vid was mentioned the rear calipers and rotors the vacuum line.

I have noticed that no matter both the ac fan and the rad fan do not kick on. I also replaced the relays related to those. Do you know what could be causing my this over heating issue?

Mine has recently been shifting weird like it’s not in sync with my driving. It drives fine but when I slow down it will feel like my transmission is making me slow down faster than I want to so I have to pat my brakes. But then it clunks if I stop to fast sometimes. Other times it stops and shifts down just fine.. could it be a sensor ? Or could it be a brake problem causing a bad shift ? It also will make a clunk sometimes slowing down in traffic around 40 and then reaccelerate. I’ve changed my fluid a few times recently to make sure it wasn’t bad or dirty fluid. I haven’t dropped the pan though and changed the transmission filter. Only the transmission cooler filter in the front. Could my internal filter be clogged? Thanks for any help from anyone 😅

Good engine and trasmision but sadly almost everything else that is mecanical is breaking down after 60k Miles having done some casual maintainence every year, starting with belt, then both fans, all the motor mounts, the belt tensioner and pulley, the alternator, starter, ac leak, the intake boot, leaking in valve cover and the chain cover , bad intake mainfold and thotle seal , bushings, calipers so maybe the water pump or sterring pump after with is very anoying even if is not so mayor problems.
