FACT: IU wrote this when she was in 9th grade. She said she was lonely and lacked at confidence during that time.

Omg this song is my all time favourite, because it means so much to me. It was the first time I felt so seen, the lyrics are just...I cried really hard the first time I heard bad day, but it was like a relief. Her voice is so weary, the way she expresses emotion is unmatched. I always feel seen by IU's lyrics, there is always comfort in knowing I will be embraced by her music.

It is actually a scientific fact, when you feel sad its best to listen to sad music cause you feel not alone in your sadness, you feel listened. Thats why IU is a gem for me she helped me realise that I'm not alone and that its ok to cry

OK, with Bad Day, you NEED to see the lyrics ... (1)Bad Day is IU's self composed/ self written song, and she wrote the lyrics from her diary : personal song. (2)Bad Day is abt the day when IU feel she hated herself (she talked abt this on Sketchbook) (3)Bad Day is written with ALL Korean, no English. It started directly with voice, and ended with just voice too. Bad Day also has very little lyrics repetitions. You know what else IU song like this? My Sea. Ofc I'm not from EDAM, and I'm not sure if IU deliberately set this up, but my theory : we can see Bad Day as the lowest point of her, the starting point of her "age series" the journey to love herself. So, the path : Bad Day -> age series songs -> My Sea. Also, more scary thing .... (cont. in reply)

Bad Day is also referenced in her other song : Celebrity celebrity is abt "love yourself"; the positive answer to Bad Day, song abt hating yourself. You can see very clearly how last chorus of Celebrity answer Bad Day outtro... Don’t forget, amidst this long winter A flower will bloom through the frozen cracks Can’t you see it? how beautiful spring will be tomorrow (Celebrity, 2021) If spring never comes, would that be better? Will the icicles in my room melt when a sunny, good day comes? (Bad Day, 2013)

wow! you also notice that she change her voice?...since I'm one of her early fans so i can relate to you.I really love her voice in her debut days its the reason i become a fan and modern times was release in 2013. i remember she struggle with her confidence in 2014 and had a hiatus for couple of months and then i notice the change of her voice in 2015 when she release chatchire album and i will be honest at first i don't like any songs in this album but after hearing it live from her i change my mind and open my heart to accept her new sound. Now i can say that its her legendary album that mark the change of her career from just a singer to a songwriter. i just notice whenever she release a song that i don't like all i need to do is just listen to her live version for me to change my mind. Just like "Last night story" i probably listen to it upon release once out of courtesy hahaha! but after seeing her sing this live in her concert in our country i can say that out of all the song she sing that night its the song that i enjoyed the most. hahaha!

Between this, stories surrounding the production of 'My Mister', the song 8, and a couple other things, IU does seem to fit the definition of the 'tortured artist'. Lee Hi and Lee Suhyun, in comparison, no matter how dark their songs, don't come across as tortured souls.

Modern Times is one of the best IU's album, my favorite on this album are between the lips(50cm), bad day, obliviate and voicemail(seulgi of Red Velvet's one of the favorite IU's songs). Edit Everybody has secret (feat gain of brown eye girls) especially the teaser I have been Uaena for long enough time but I never saw IU like that in the teaser

Hi Aaron I think you should also react to her unreleased songs "The Station", "You" and "Dear Friend". All three melancholic in their own way (and a different kind of melancholic with "Bad Day"). "The Station" is about death (if I had to guess) while "You" if I recall correctly is for her friend Kim Yoo na and lastly "Dear Friend" is inspired from and for her Drama "Moon lovers: Scarlet heart Ryeo". Note: All four (including "Bad Day") are both composed and written by her.
