I love how Ron's fear of monkeys is seen as something ridiculous when you're a kid, but then you grow up, actually look up cases of monkeys attacking humans, and realize that Ron was 100% justified in his fears

On a rewatch, there are subtle hints throughout the series leading up to *So The Drama!* that Kim actually wants Ron to ask her out on a date and that she’s attracted to him. One of the earliest moments I can think of is when Ron is trying out for the cheer squad and ends up having his back against Kim’s and she has this very affectionate smile and side look.

Plus parts like Kim getting jealous of Yuri when Ron is trying to help Yuri at the ninja school, Kim not denying the possibility of her and Ron dating when he’s overthinking about his crush on a girl working at the movies, and of course the episode where Kim and Shego get the mood devices on them and Kim’s makes her fall in love with Ron.

Having rewatched it recently myself, it is interesting how the show manages to smoothly and consistently build them up as being in love with each other but doing it subtly. S1 doesn't have many moments, aside form looks Kim occasionally gives Ron which you could interpret as her liking him, she even briefly overcomes Drakken's mind control chip to protect Ron from Shego, but S2 makes it somewhat more clear. S2 in general goes a lot deeper into their friendship and how much it means to them both, for Ron, Kim's what motivates him to do stuff beyond lazing at bueno nacho and they really enjoy each other's company, but for Kim, he's actually a pretty big reason for who she is, since he stands up for her in pre school despite being pretty cowardly and not very capable himself, and that inspired her to help people, there are episodes that show that Kim couldn't be as nearly as good at what she does without Ron's help, and it's something she slowly reckons and appreciates about him. Which then also leads her into showing some apparent signs of liking him, like being suspicious over him being gone for one day to the point she tracks him down in the Ferret episode(they even parody raimi spiderman kiss), and Ron manages to save the day when Kim's incapacitated. in Christmas episode, she makes a digital scrapbook showing their shared friendship and smooches him under the mistletoe, and in Zita episode, she tries to get an answer out of him whether he considers they could be dating or not. Even her crush, Josh Mankey is basically just a guy like Ron who isn't perceived as a loser, Kim being unsure if Ron would even be interested, would predictably pine after a guy like Ron. S3 makes this even more obvious, since many episodes show Kim's growing interest in Ron, starting with showing that Kim likes spending time with Ron so much she gets lonely when Ron hangs with Felix, moodulator episode shows that under effects of a chip that boosts person's emotions, Kim wouldn't even consider hurting Ron when furious, and is madly in love with him when that effect is applied, so those are her real feelings, simply amplified. She even overcomes the chip when Ron is in danger which shows how much he means to her. And in episodes since, Kim has been trying to subtly gauge Ron's interest, but somewhat afraid to say it out loud because he did reject her when she was under moodulator's effects. In Bad Boy, she suggests a couple of times he take her as a date so he doesn't get put to kid's table, she gets very possessive and jealous when she finds out he knows Yori and goes off on a mission with her, and once Ron finds out that Yori did like him and asks why girls couldn't be more obvious, Kim sheepishly goes "you got me", which can be pretty ambigous, all things considered. I also don't think it's a coincidence that Kim informs Ron of girls who have crush on him like Yori and Tara only when they're very clearly beyond access because subconciously, she probably doesn't want him to be with them. Ron, for his part, is shown to be someone who values their friendship much more than potential romance, in no small part because he always thought he'd be beneath her to date, so he never considered the possibility until the movie. And in the movie, Kim's shown to be at a serious crossroads, since it looks like she's losing her patience over the uncertainty and gives Ron multiple chances to ask her out, and he never does, so she ultimately tries moving on, and even then, she still prefers to hear Ron's side over Eric. and eric, for his part, is what gives Ron his final push to admit his feelings for better or worse. S4 continues it with showing Ron going through character development Kim had in S1, and trying to grow up and be the man she'd be genuenly proud of, and coming into his own. Ultimately, it's a very interesting story since it doesn't follow usual conventions of characters being mean to each other or going through turbulent relationship, but rather showing 2 people who deeply like and appreciate each other, which is surprisingly rare in shows when it comes to relationships between characters. All of this kind of makes me think that this show's central theme, at the end, is about importance of partnership and friendship, and it's explored via Kim and Ron, and Drakken and Shego, who paralel each other frequently.

Somehow, watching this gave me an idea for a Kim Possible spin-off. I feel like a spin-off set in the same universe as the show would be better than a reboot, as the OG show and formula were already great as they were. But how do you continue it with the same charm and zanyness as the original? Make it about Ron's little sister Hana, and have her be the new teen hero. I now really wanna see a Kim Possible spin-off called Hana Stoppable.

It makes sense that the creators of this show were the writers of the equally good Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, because after finally watching it (beginning with "Tick-Tick-Tick" and "Sink or Swim" before continuing in release order), I have to say that Kim Possible is one of the funniest things ever committed to children's television. The scripts, voice acting, and humour are on point and the characters (especially Kim herself) are endearing. Why didn't I watch this show before? It's honestly brilliant.

Though Erod brings up the "65 And Done" Rule that Disney had for a bit on the Disney channel for a few shows, he does fail to bring up a few points. 1. There are actually a few Disney original series BEFORE Kim Possible to get over 65 episodes. the Original Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, even Gargoyles. So why weren't those affected by the Disney Channel rule? Because technically they weren't made for the Disney Channel. A lot of the original cartoons were made for general syndication which actually in general is more willing to give series a 65 episode season due to the rights allowing it to air not on one channel but multiple channels with multiple various revenue points thus more areas for it to be shown thus more willing to cough off up money to make a certain amount of episodes. thus how even something like Bonkers got 65 episodes; because that is the standard for kids show syndication but as pointed out some were popular enough to surpass that. However Hercules was the last Disney cartoon to get that kind of standard syndication as by the late 90's Disney specifically had their shows air on blocks (mostly ABC's One Saturday Morning and UPN'S One two) which were more tight lip about episode counts and probably stuck more to the "65 and done" model. Shows like Recess, The Weekenders, buzz Lightyear of Star Command etc. Since yeah believe it or not 2. Kim Possible is actually only the SECOND Original Disney cartoon to specifically be made to air on The Disney Channel. The first is the Proud Family, which is an odd case as it (and it's sequel series) are the only ones technically not to be made specifically by a main division of Disney animation. Which is super weird since yeah The Proud Family isn't counted as an official made by Disney show but Clerks The Animated series is, but yeah though the Proud Family was a fairly big hit, Kim Possible was by far the bigger hit and the first official Disney cartoon/show to break the 65+ episode limit. However 3. It should be pointed out that limit was really only really restrictivie for a few shows since though the Disney Channel has been airing since the 80's it really only bothered seriously getting around to making full on original series that were meant to attract general large auidneces since... the later 90s with stuff like The Famous Jett Jackson, Even Stevens, and Lizzy McGuire. And I think that rule was originally made more for those live action series really only wanting them as long as the actors were a certain marketable age though yeah that obviously changed with Kim Possible... a bit. It should be pointed out it's really in the last few years with stuff liked Bunk'd, Raven's Home and yeah the newly revealed new seasons of Phineas and Ferb that Disney Channel shows are allowed to go past 4 seasons which for ages seemed like the limit we'd get for them. I wanted to bring this up as this felt like the only major lull not covered by an otherwise great look at KP. A show I remember people hyping as being great but at first I felt I couldn't get into until seeing an episode and how funny and charming it was and going "okay yeah I get the appeal here" and being a huge fan ever since.

Kim and Ron’s friendship wasn’t “falling apart” in So The Drama. The movie focused on how their relationship was changing. Kim was fretting on how she was weirding guys out with her saving the world hobby, thinking something was wrong with her. Ron's realization that Kim may mean more to him than he first thought once Eric enters the picture. The main thrust of the movie is Ron coming to terms with his newfound feelings for Kim and Kim learning to understand that there really wasn't anything wrong with her and that one guy who wasn’t weirded out by her had been with her the whole time. The movie was the cultimation of Kim and Ron’s evolvoing relationship over the course of the season. It showed us just how much Kim and Ron mean to each other and that they couldn’t see their lives without the other in it.

Kim Possible is always amazing. I watched it as a kid and still enjoy it as an adult. The comedy was on point and the action was creative and amazing. I'd love to see a sequel series one day where Kim and Ron are married with kids, but they're all saving the world as a family. They don't just wake the kids for school, they wake them to save the world.
@neonnwave1
@neonnwave1 Жыл бұрын
I personally don't think Kim Possible should get a 5th season or continue at all. The story of Kim and Ron ended on a great note. A reboot would make sense but I don't trust Disney with how they are now. I'd prefer if it took place 20 years later and followed a new cast of characters, like Kim's children who try to follow in their parents' foot steps but struggle thus must find their own ways of dealing with their dilemmas (with Kim and Ron being supporting characters and possibly mentors). That way it'd be something new, be its own thing while preserving the original, and give fans of KP what they wanted simultaneously which is a continuation of the story (kinda like Batman Beyond in a way).
@Rixec2
@Rixec2 Жыл бұрын
@@neonnwave1 That's essentially what I said. A series with them as adults and married with kids, waking the kids to save the world as well as school. They all have their own stories, adults and kids alike.
@neonnwave1
@neonnwave1 Жыл бұрын
@@Rixec2 No, I meant the focus is on Kim's children rather than Kim and Ron. Their story is already complete so it'd make more sense to focus on the children and their struggles instead. Kim and Ron do their own thing while the kids fight villains without them.
@Rixec2
@Rixec2 Жыл бұрын
@@neonnwave1 I don't know if Kim, at the very least, would give up saving the world, hence the family angle. And beings parents still can be a struggle all its own to explore. It can be like the new Ducktales, where they alternated between what episodes focuses on whom, showing all they go through. Yes, the kids can be the main focus, but we don't forget those that started it as well and how their lives go.
@neonnwave1
@neonnwave1 Жыл бұрын
@@Rixec2 Hence why I said Kim and Ron would take the role of supporting characters, like Bruce Wayne was in Batman Beyond. I'd picture that the kids want to help their parents by fighting crime on their behalf (maybe secretly at first) to lighten the burden on them - as well as to get out of Kim's shadow. Kim wouldn't want to give up saving the world and Ron wouldn't give up helping Kim. The problem would be that being a parent plus their day job is already a burden enough so adding saving the world to the list would just make things more difficult for her. Possibly even ruin the relationship she has with her kids due to being so busy (which is a thing in real life btw). Maybe the kids, especially the daughter, may grow some sort of resentment because she's living in Kim's shadow and everyone compares them and feels inferior in comparison (she's the kids aren't Possibles, they're Stoppables).

I absolutely love this show and STILL love it, even after all these years. However, looking back, there were three or four small (yet still rather irritating) elements in KP that I'm surprised lasted as long as they did. 1. I cannot stand Mr. Barkin's character; he's loud, bossy, obnoxiously strict and proof that military people are NOT qualified to be educators in any way. My biggest pet peeve with him was his constant need to be the only one to teach a class, should something happen to the original teacher. Such a practice shouldn't be legal, even within the realm of animation. 2. Speaking of obnoxious and annoying characters, I hated Bonnie almost a much as Barkin. The fact that she tries to make herself seem more important than Kim was the most irritating aspect of her character. Even after learning about her (supposed) inadequacies due to her sisters' behavior, I STILL refused to empathize with her. Perhaps, the most annoying thing about her was how Bonnie tried to make high school issues more important than saving the world. She seems like the type of person who would HAPPILY sell the souls of humanity to the Devil, so long as she would be top of the world. Kind of reminds me a bit of Odalia Blight, when you think about it. 3. As much as I love BOTH the Dr.s Possible, I found their tendencies to treat her like a toddler to be rather embarrassing. A big example of this is seen in October 31st (the episode title, not the date.) It should've been obvious that Kim had no interest in doing her family's traditions on Halloween and that Kim didn't have to tell them that (even though she didn't.) If you're a parent and your child holds zero interest in something you're doing, you should TRY and respect their wishes. Finally, we come to Ron's character...I love the dude, he's one of my favorite animated characters. But he and Marcy Wu from Amphibia share a common personality flaw, they expect their besties to go along with whatever they enjoy; no matter what...simply because they're best friends. The main difference between the two is Ron wouldn't lie to Kim into doing something he wants, thereby trapping them in a bad situation...like what Marcy did with the music box. Still, Ron has had plenty of moments where he tries to get Kim to enjoy something he does; only to be rejected (albeit gently, on occasion) seconds later. One big example of this was him wanting to be the Middleton Mad Dogs mascot, way back...and Kim outright insulted his skills to his face. At least, KP learned her lesson about that by the end of the episode. Still, this would be one of several moments where Ron overused the Best Friends card on Kim and if there's one thing I've learned in the years following this show's end; it's that if you use that card too many times...your friendships could be put at risk
