Looks like a great attachment. Santa Maria style bbq is with wood and not charcoal. That is the point of having the adjustable height. You want that fire to be kissing what you are cooking. Born and raised in Santa Maria.

I have this Santa Maria attachment, I hVe used it to cook baby Back Ribs, Tomahawk steaks, t-bone steaks hotdogs only using wood splits from my offset smoker wood supply. Works great, just need use higher grate levels untill wood burns down a little, then lower attempt change. Keeps you on your toes!

Great review as usual. Reasonably priced. I think it is gimmicky....but at this point in my life I appreciate simplicity. I don't condemn people that want to play around and move their food up and down all day though. I see the attraction.

Pretty cool accessory Tom. I see the value of this with high fat content foods. As goukizx2 mentions, you can raise the grate just enough to keep from incinerating your protein. Chicken comes to mind. It looks like you can still fit the lid over the grate, or do you have to take the assembly off and revert back to the standard kettle grate? It doesn’t need security bolts. The crank handle pivot pin slides into holes placed in intervals up the side uprights​ to lock it in the holes. He just didn’t know or use it on the video.@@edwardprokopchuk3264
