Your talk about Ridley Scott reminds of the story of when they were filming the 1960 movie, "The Alamo". Apparently John Ford, who was in his mid-60's, showed up as it was John Wayne's directorial debut. He more or less started taking over, was messing up what Wayne wanted to do, and they finally had to just send him away with the second unit to get him out of their hair.

"This isn't the movie we wanted/asked for" is not a good way to go into watching a movie. It will make everything feel like a missed opportunity. You get more out of the movie (even bad ones) if you go along w/ the direction it takes you!
@echnaton1926 жыл бұрын
Oh no. The film does not get better if I watch it and do not get what was promised. Alien and Aliens are good films. Everything else was butchered or plain bad. Aliens 3 killed the last main characters - the one Ripley saved in Aliens so that the director could tell his HIV-allegory. And then WB forced him to dial down on violence. So we get a cheap story device that renders the last movie pointless AND a boring film where nothing happens AND nearly no blood at all in a scenario created to have gory violence. I am not willing to even talk about Alien 4. And then we get those godawful prequels from a director that lost it that did not get the money for the film he wanted to make so he made 2 (two!) godawful movies with really stupid protagonists that get killed by being stupid. The Nostromo Crew was also stupid, but not as stupid as in the prequels, besides all they were interested in was their payment. They should have made one Robocop movie and leave it at that or get someone who is as violent and as dark humored as Verhoeven. Robocop 2 was an offense. Robocop 3 and the reboot are abominations. I hate it when that happens. The direct-to-dvd sequels and TV adaptations Disney bumped out after building up a franchise with one good movie are another example. Splash 2, Alladin 2,... you name it. They do not get better if I follow the lead of the director.

People don't seem to get that we will never get an Alien movie like the first Alien. You know why? Because when the Alien first came out, it was revolutionary and new, no one had seen anything like it before. And there lies the problem: once that movie was over, it was no longer new and exiting. You can't hide the alien any more, because everyone and their mother knows what the alien looks like. You can't be scared of the chest burster, because you know it's coming.
@DonBarracuda1177 жыл бұрын
Remember when Ridley said this new franchise was loosely connected to the Alien franchise, but then money got involved and the studio won. Now you have this. Should have let Ridley do what he wanted from the start.

Nothing in this movie was scary because you didn't give af about the characters one bit, and it rarely even showed anything. That scene did show something, but it was just bloody, not scary. AVPR was scarier and grosser. Actually, if I were to mention a scene, it was just showing all of the dissections and whatever was left of Shaw's corpse (the one character we do care about). Too bad they basically ignored all of that.

Aliens was the last great Alien film. The development of the characters the dialouge action scenes etc. Then Alien 3 was basically a redo of Alien but on a prison planet? The killing off of the characters of Newt and Hicks really was a downer because we just got to know and care about those characters. Hicks plays the nonoense sensible leader who also seemed to have a good heart and intentions Newt the survivor and they kill them off in the beginning of the third film. I heard though on a double toasted review that their were lots of problems with the third movie. I remember an Alien comic came out with the continuing story of Newt and Hicks back in the late 80's that was pretty good. Hell the action and plot characters and monsters are more compelling from the video games than the movie franchise. My favorite Sci-Fi is gritty raw with great characters monsters and interesting set pieces. An adventure in space either fun and exciting or dark and mysterious. That is what make B movies so good. Rather watch an old B movie from the 80's than another preachy Alien flick.
@JenniferMcMahonhawaii787 жыл бұрын
I'm going to go with my standby theory that every movie is gradually getting us closer to living in the fictionalized world of Idiocracy... in this case the Alien Franchise, which maybe the alien's aren't always to blame; however maybe they are more of a savor; to the inevitable aftermath that the colonist, "colonizing" in yes, Blade Runner and the Alien movies are creating a world like that of Idiocracy.

Dunno Covenant for me falls in a very weird place, I don't want to call it a pointless addition, but it did mostly write off everything that happened in Prometheus. I might be in the minority here, but I enjoyed a lot about this movie, most of which was the least xenomorph related. The opening sequence and the David-Michael exchanges where haunting, though provoking and just beautiful sequences. I'm a fan of most of the original Alien movies but I think this would have been a way better movie without the Alien tacked on to it. I enjoyed the whole Blade Runner, Ex Machina, Space Odyssey explorations a lot more than the actual Alien parts, but I get that that's not what most people were expecting going in to this movie. Ripley should have straight up called it Prometheus 2 but "marketing" I guess.

NEVER have I gone to an Alien movie and by 30mins in was just hoping it was a bad dream and hopefully Deadpool would at least show up, follow them around and make comments about how stupid these people were! Now THAT would have made the $11 I spent plus the loading and unloading of the wheelchair and my service dog worth it!
