This movie was indirectly responsible for my love of horror movies. My little brother wanted to watch it with me despite neither of us having seen a single Alien or Predator movie. So we both liked it a lot, and I then went back and watched the rest of both franchises. And in my head I associated Freddy vs. Jason with this because of the similar names, but I wanted to do it right and start from the beginning this time, so I watched the 15+ Freddy and Jason movies and also Halloween because why not. This movie is good, cheesy fun and I love it a lot. It isn't even stupid fun either...it just isn't particularly smart xD

As someone who's #1 favorite movie of all time is Aliens and #2 favorite movie of all time is Predator: People may dislike this movie, but AVP:R was miles worse. The fights between the xenos and the Yautja were incredible, Lex was a good protagonist, the team-up between Lex and Scar was a fun dynamic, the underdeveloped dynamic between Lex and Weyland was still compelling, and the effects still hold up to this day. The only thing that hurt this movie for me was the rating. I don't love AVP, but I do like it. It's an easy watch.

The P2 Alien skull was only ever intended as an easter egg, so it was made bone-coloured so as to be recognisably a skull and not stick out compared to the others. As someone who spent a lot of my childhood reading Aliens and Predator books (which is crazy in retrospect with how mature that content was even compared to the R rated movies), I do really wish that I could just get an almost direct adaption of those stories. Aliens vs Predator in a future setting would be sick, especially because it could involve more global threats and colonial marines vs predators. The Aliens infesting earth books would be soooo good for a different, new story to tell in that franchise. It was just a series of "I'm gonna out-Alien the Aliens!" and "I'm gonna out-Predator the Predators!" Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dumb movies as much as the next person who enjoys dumb movies, and I enjoyed this one.

I have had verbatim the same take for years! I totally agree. AVP isn't at the level of alien or aliens but imo it beats resurrection and predator 4

AVP was my introduction to both franchises as a kid. It tried to meet half way with both main themes I noticed when I watched the older movies more recently. Aliens is about unknown scary monsters hunting the people and threatening a containment problem. Where Predator movies tend to steer towards humanity overcoming an alien hunter that's collecting skulls of definitive predator creatures. In AVP we get a containment issue with the unknown xenos as well as humans overcoming the hunters by joining them instead of killing them. AVPR had both those things as well minus the team up but instead the people just get slaughtered in the crossfire between the two creatures

The darkest movie ever made

Man this movie is such a big part of my childhood. Alien and Predator were two of the first horror movies my dad showed me and the Predator specifically has been our shared favorite alien in any movie. I don't think I would be as close to my dad as I am if it were fore these cheesy 90s and 00s movies

Was always bothered by the gestation period for the aliens in this movie being like 10 minutes tops, but this is the first time Ive heard someone say "well they're super aliens". As awful an explanation as it is, it somehow has put my mind at ease after all these years.
