We need an hour long rant on quidditch by spencer please💥💥💥🥂
@nicholascross3557
@nicholascross3557 4 жыл бұрын
Spencer first needs to look up the Eton Wall Game, a real game played since 1717, in which, in the traditional annual St. Andrews Day match, no goals (worth 10 points) have been scored since 1909, although games have been won on kicked goals (5 points) and shys (one point) and many games end in 0-0 draws. Quiddich is pretty sensible by comparison and the supposed advantage of catching the Snitch is less absolute than he thinks, given a Quiddich match can last for _days._

Who cares....? Maybe in a weird fanboy rage way it might matter but why does it matter when they discuss the story? A person can understand what makes a good script and story without knowing what a cyborg is? I mean seriously.... them using the wrong term doesnt erase their very valid criticisms of this films structure and script
@NameHierEinfuegen
@NameHierEinfuegen 4 жыл бұрын
@@corvus2512 As a sci-fi fan and especially a cyberpunk fan I know how important it is to be able to distinguish between man and machine. Especially with Japanese source material there often are ethical and philosophical questions deeply rooted into the story. It might not be as in your face as "Ghost in the Shell", but Alita deals extensively with the theme of transhumanism. Often blurring the line between human and machine to a point where you are left asking yourself "Is that person still human? Still a living being?". That's why I have a hard time to take them seriously when people have problems with the still very clear and basic difference between a robot and a cyborg. P.S.: If I went into fanboy rage mode, I would start ranting about this movie not having the balls to aim for the much needed R rating (tho I do understand why and am surprised with what they got away with). Or how Rodriguez fucked it up by introducing motorball and Desty Nova way to early. Or how Jashugan is supposed to be black or at least has a dark skin color. Or how they replaced Gonzu with a black nurse. The rest of the script was pretty much perfectly adapted with intelligent changes to the source material. There are only very few debatable changes overall. In the end I'm just happy that after waiting almost 20 years I got a pretty faithful adaptation that even surpasses the anime and has perfectly captured the character of Alita.
@kbear6797
@kbear6797 4 жыл бұрын
@@corvus2512 no, it doesn't erase thier validity, but it does make it harder to take them seriously. That's like some one saying Legolas is a Man or Gimli is a Hobbit when reviewing the Lord of the Rings. Sure, the person might make a really good review or whatever, but it's those little details that leaves it harder for the audience to take them seriously. But yet again, who cares? Oh wait you do seeing as you wrote and entire paragraph about it 😊😊

I had no prior knowledge of Alita before watching it, and I really enjoyed it. The world-building and characters were all interesting and enjoyable enough that I liked wandering through and around them for a couple hours-much like Avatar, but with better villains and with fewer plot-holes. At no point was I confused by what was going on or disappointed with the story arc or pacing. It wasn't "perfect" but it was a solid 8/10 and my favorite movie of the year until Endgame came out. After watching it, I read the first few volumes of the manga and understand why they changed what they changed and kept what they kept. Looking forward to the sequel. =]

The plot of Alita Battle Angel isn't about her remembering her past, becoming Motorball champion or going to Tiphares to face Nova. Its about her first crush/failed relationship, and subverting the born sexy yesterday trope by growing from the child surrogate for Ido and becoming someone who stands on her own. And, that DOES reach it's conclusion. The main plot is focused around Alita's personal and emotional growth and the action only exists as an obstacle or a means to those ends. The biggest mistake the movie made was not ending on the giant pipe where Hugo died. The final scene with Alita as the Motorball Champion only exists to set up a sequel and should have been left as a post-credit scene. Also, Karate Planet is just the motivation for a side-character of the sequel series, not even one of the more interesting characters. I know it was a joke, but if you wanted to rip on Alita you could have chose something more relevant, like how every plot arc is just a rip off of a different 80's or 90's Hollywood blockbuster (Rollerball, Mad Max, Apocalypse Now, etc).

Got to whole hearteningly disagree that it was all set up. There was a central theme of naive hope and growth, leading to realistic disappointment at the climax. Alita develops as a character by the end of the film, no longer being that naive child but also not exactly who she used to be, she’s a new person that developed through the films conflicts. Hugo and Chiren also encompassed the same theme of hope and disappointment from willing to do anything to achieve their goals which lead to their deaths. Not saying the movie is a masterpiece but as a fan of Battle Angel Alita and having watched the anime film and read all of its manga as a young teen (then again as an adult), I was very pleased with the film.

Gunnm (kinda pronounced gunem), the original Japanese title is two kanji, the first being the kanji for "gun" and the second being the kanji for "dream" so technically it's "Gun Dream". Also, the original manga is like 9 graphic novels, of which still not everything is explained. Currently there are a couple of new series related to the moon and mars stories of the Gunnm world respectively. Also, Edge of Tomorrow was based on a Japanese light novel, not a manga.

if alita wasn't all set up and ground work for the next movies in sequence we would have gotten another avatar the last air bender or worse dragon ball. D: this is the inherent flaw in making a long series into a movie.

HellMinion88 agree. If they need to end the story in purpose, then they must change a lot from the manga original story. Then it becomes another ghost in the shell or dragon ball z.

"the hammer" looks cool and iconic - and is not to be taken away from the movie, despite being totally unrealistic - because ti "feels" real, and what I mean with "feel" is that it looks not controllable, *heavy* and stiff as a real object, in a tactile way. that always separated good animation from bad cheap one, and in 2019 - with cgi-heavy blockbusters and glamourous shots - it does a big difference in the ability to "grab" the viewer. that's why that rocket sticks in our memory more than the rollerball or whatever.

I think Yuri on Ice could make a really good live-action movie. You'd probably have to make it a Netflix/Prime original as I don't believe there's enough of a market for gay ice skater romance on the big screen but otherwise, the only issue would be finding professional figure skaters who can either act or be close enough stunt doubles to the actors.

Holywood just doesn't get the cultural undertones that run through those mangas/animes and make them into uninspired cliches. The whole "becoming an adult" thing the round jokes about was a major theme of the manga, the creepy relationship between Alita and the Doctor was emphaziesed and her breaking from those social constraints.

First of all, don't worry about any movie complaints impacting the source material. They were almost 100% character based with very limited long term storytelling. And for all my questions with the plot, I really like how they adapted the characters to the film. Except for Nova of course, it's hard to make an impulsive lunatic scientist a big long term planning bad guy without really changing his character up. Maybe Crazy Nova could appear if the Secret of Zalem comes into play, assuming they can write around the body part scene.

Naming Alita after his daughter is better than the story in the manga where she was named after his cat. I also say the movie is basically the first 4 volumes of the series and two of the volumes where just moterball so the movie actually toned that down a lot. My friend had complained about the romance subplot being way to fast. (I feel the same. I'm more whatever about it) but that love story is only one volume of the manga. So, I actually think the movie did a half-decent job with the pacing.

There are completed arcs in the movie. The Alita and Hugo story. Vector despite being used by nova was a villain in his own right for how he deceived Hugo and chiren while killing people and stealing body parts. we see him brought to justice along with gruishka. Alita reuniting with a martian body and levelling up and reclaiming the sword. Alita coming into her own.

This movie actually reminds me a lot of Blade. It ends on setting up sequels, it’s equal parts good and bad, and it’s actually the first genuinely good Anime adaptation that can pave the way to better future adaptations just like Blade did with Marvel. It’s the spark that lit the fire that can burn the Anime curse down.
