Just finished watching this. It's a masterpiece of Kaiju fighting. The animation is unreal and everything works. Yeah it's got human issues, but Dan Stevens saves them, his character was fun and the whole Kong and mini-kong arc was great to see. There are some unbelievable shots in this. Super fun movie.

While the Legendary Godzilla movies present themselves in a much more Marvel style tone with humor and lots of mindless fun moments, I think people give these movies a harder time than they deserve. The scene where Kong first meets the enslaved Apes is a very good story telling scene. No words are spoken in that 5(?) ish minute stretch, yet through well written body language and visual details, the scene spoke for itself. I won't pretend that these movies are cinema gold, cause they're not. But we can enjoy them for a LITTLE more than just "brain off" fun.
